About this project
Cole Porter’s childhood home, like his music, has stood the test of time. Currently it is the Cole Porter Inn where guests can stay in 800 square foot suites and take in the charm of Peru, Indiana. However, it needs some support in order to bring it up to all it can, and honestly, should be to honor such an artistic legend.
Phase 1-Painting the exterior $11,916.50. The Inn has modern and charming amenities inside, but is completely lacking in that appeal outside. For those who have never been to the Cole Porter Inn, it is quite large and unfortunately is in desperate need of an exterior paint job.
Phase 2-Shrubs, showers in each suite, basic features that will create a fresh feeling, and Bistro at the Birthplace. $5,346.50. We would like to plant large shrubs, as well as seal several spots of the concrete. Bistro at the Birthplace being our inaugural event on this revitalized space. Each suite has a glorious claw foot tub; we will be installing showers within two of the three suites to accommodate a wide variety of our guests needs.
Phase 3-Kirk Bros. Brewery. $6,000.00. Turn Kate’s Parlor into a tap room that will feature Kirk Bros. Brewery beer.
Cole Porter’s significance has been recognized in some truly remarkable ways. As citizens of Peru, Indiana, we don’t take lightly that someone as revered as Cole came from our humble town. In supporting the above ventures you allow us to create another place for Cole to touch lives and inspire artists from all varieties and backgrounds. Thank you for your support and allowing us to memorialize a man of such talent.
Phase 1 in detail: It is our belief that in order for the Inn to reach its ultimate potential, it requires an aesthetic that is consistent throughout. If we reach our goal of $11,916.50 that will ensure fully that the Inn will be painted and in a timely fashion so generations, far beyond you and I, will be able to enjoy Cole Porter’s history.
Phase 2 in detail: If we exceed our original goal and raise an additional $5,346.50, which we would be truly grateful to do, the inn will receive some significant features that many guests and visitors have requested over the years. The Cole Porter Inn is in a residential area. While we love our neighbors, we hope to provide our guests with privacy that will allow them to enjoy all the Inn has to offer; more specifically having small gatherings or celebrations on the southeast patio. We would like to add shrubs that will help our guests with the privacy of the area, while still maintaining a natural feature to the Inn, as well as seal several spots of the concrete on the patio and surrounding areas that have grown weathered and tired considering the inns original remodel in 2004. We hope to allow visitors to enjoy meals (Bistro at the Birthplace) for six/eight weeks in the summer of 2016, where they can taste the fair of popular local chefs, a variety of libations, and enjoy an atmosphere not fully known in Peru at this time. More information will follow about this event through our Facebook page and monthly newsletter. Finally, while our motto has always been, “Why stand when you can sit?” we know in this day showers are not to be taken for granted. Each suite has a glorious claw foot tub, but our business guests, and even several who just don’t have an affinity for baths, have expressed to us how much more they’d be willing to visit if we were able to provide a shower in addition to the luxurious baths. If we exceed our goal, we will absolutely be installing showers within two of the three suites to accommodate a wide variety of our guests needs and allow us to be the most amenable host we can be. Once the above items are finalized, please rest assured that any additional monies received will be utilized most appropriately to give the Inn a fresh feeling throughout while still maintaining its character. We will keep everyone in the loop about these additional features through our monthly newsletter. Simply send us your email if you wish to receive this newsletter.
Phase 3 in detail: In the occasion that we significantly exceed our goal and raise an additional $6,000.00, the Cole Porter Inn would like to consider a larger business venture within Kate’s Parlor. Cole Porter was no stranger to a good time or quality beverages. And in honor of J.O. Cole’s (Cole’s grandfather) brewery in the early 19th Century, the innkeeper and his brother have worked for a few years now learning about brewing their own beer. We would be grateful, provided the funds are available, to turn Kate’s Parlor into a tap room that will feature Kirk Bros. Brewery beer. This will allow patrons in town to visit the Cole Porter Inn and learn about its rich history and significance, as well as overnight guests to receive accommodations unlike other inns they may have visited. This tap room would feature four palatable beers that our guests or visitors can sample or enjoy fully, with seasonal beers being rotated.
Total project cost with all phases: $23,263.00
Risks and challenges
We shouldn't encounter too many challenges with the main repairs. We have gotten solid estimates on the paint, concrete, bushes, and shower installation. If we are able to raise the money, then these repairs will be done.
The Bistro at the Birthplace is a whole different thing. We have researched what we need to do to get the job done, but we have never worked in a food service capacity. We have put great people around us including a graduate from the Indianapolis School of Culinary Arts, but we never know how things will turn out with it being our first real endeavor in this area.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
