*Edit* We Made It!
Huge thanks to everyone who has helped us out so far. We made it to our minimum goal, but lets not stop there. Like I said it is a minimum goal. That means that whatever we get over it will just make the film even better!
So Please! Consider helping us out. You still have time to be involved and join this revolutionary, genre breaking film.
We at Bagogames.com are extremely excited about this project and we hope to get you excited too.
"The Undead" is an unconventional Zombie film. Instead of focusing on the Zombies themselves the main focus will be on the emotional turmoil brought on by the Zombie apocalypse. The film forces us to ask ourselves: What would we do if we saw our loved ones fed on and then turned? How would we feel knowing that our family members bodies are walking around but their souls no longer inhabit them? What would be going through our minds if we had been bitten and knew it was only a matter of time until we joined "The Undead".
"The Undead" part 1 follows Joseph Mason as he tries to survive a viral outbreak causing everyone infected to die a painful, slow death, but death is not the end. The virus then reactivates a small portion of the brain effectively reanimating the individual. These reanimated people are no longer human, they are instead a feral, mindless creature with only one desire. To eat.
Joseph Mason must fight to survive the outbreak and deal with the emotional trauma of losing, everyone. Will he survive? Or will he end up joining the ranks of "The Undead"?
The goal of the "The Undead" is to concentrate on the individual person that each film is about. The first one being about Joseph Mason. Joseph Mason's wife and son are killed at the beginning of the apocalypse. The first film takes place in a shelter where Joseph has holed up. None of the films will be connected as far as characters are concerned. Each film will cover a certain characters story. In fact the primary character, Joseph, turns into one of the undead at the end of the first film. One of the emotional aspects of the first film is to explore what is going through Joseph's mind and the physical and emotional pain he is experiencing as he changes. The first film concentrates primarily on the emotional. Where as the following films, even though they are still character driven and dramatic, are not as much focused on emotion. What we wanted to do with the first film is to shock some people with a disturbing and emotional transition from living human, to undead monster.

Who am I?
My name is Matthew Quinlan, but most people call me Matt. I love filmmaking and have spent my whole life working towards making movies. Starting at the age of 11 I was dreaming and planning films I was going to make and writing the stories. For Christmas when I was 13 my parents got an older VHS video camera. Me and my brother spent hours and days making short films and playing around, I still have a lot of those old tape. Over the course of the next 10 years I bought a few of my own cameras and kept making films along with my partner Mark, my brother. In 2009 I started to get more serious with filmmaking and with the help of my wife, friends and family was able to get a plethora of high quality equipment. I started planning again with my brother. In the fall of 2010 my brother was in a fatal car accident, and I lost my long time film partner. Fast forward to now and I am working with my wife to make films. We have won a contest and built up our arsenal of equipment and are now ready to make our first large scale production and we need your help.
In order to begin filming "The Undead" we are in need of funds to cover some very important things, these are only the bare minimum we need to start production but would greatly appreciate whatever we receive above our goal. We will be using the funds for several things including:
- Props (i.e. Weapons, a large ladder, wooden door, etc.)
- Score (In order to set the tone of this film we would like to have an original score written to help further the story.)
Anything above our $1000 goal will go towards:
- Extra make-up and props
- Additional Practical Effect (i.e. blood, bullet hits etc.)
- Additional Gear
Whatever else is left over above this will go towards the production of the next short film in this series. We plan on shooting several separate short films all set in the same Zombie infested world. Each film will follow a different character and have a different feel.
How Kickstarter Works
Because of the way Kickstarter works you don't need to worry about pledging your support and the project not getting funded and then the projects dies along with your money. With Kickstarter the money is only taken from your account if the project reaches it's goal. So if you pledge $5 and the project doesn't get completely funded, you don't need to worry about your $5. You get to hold onto it. Kickstarter is the perfect way to help out with creative projects because it ensures that you only actually give the money if the project reaches it's funding goal.
Check out the first promo for the film below. The promo in no way reflects the story itself for the first film. The promo is meant only to introduce us to the story and give us some background. At this time we do not plan to elaborate on the backstory. -
We appreciate the time you have taken to read our post, and we hope you will consider helping us out with either your financial support or by sharing this campaign with friends and family.
We can't wait to see the response we receive and are excited to bring all of the Zombie fans out there a well made and original film.
Yes it is different then "most" other zombie films. The reason I say most is because their are a couple of zombie shows or films out there that do tap into the emotional side of the story. "The Undead" at it's core is an emotional story of lose and tragedy that happens to take place in a zombie apocalypse.
Will you be sacrificing the things we love about zombie films like blood and gore to make it a more emotional film?
No not at all. This is still a zombie film. Even if it is an emotional story that doesn't mean we want to take the good things away from the zombie genre. Expect plenty of blood, gore, and some other sweet stuff. Don't believe me? Check out the update we posted about our "Zombie Impaler".
More like the original for sure. The fast running zombies have their place in some films, but I tend to like the original zombies better. It's a different tone and kind of dear. With fast running zombies you get that quick paced almost action style feeling and even one zombie can be bad news, but with the slower original zombies the fear stems more from the claustrophobic feeling of being surrounded by them. It may be somewhat more slow paced but I think that it's almost better to let the fear and terror fester slowly with the tension building then to have a overly dramatic chase scene if you will.
