Hello! This is Ashkelon Sain writing. Perhaps you've heard of my band Trance To The Sun, or maybe that's an unfamiliar name. Either way is fine. What we do in Trance To The Sun is create infectious, haunting, mesmerizing, psychedelic, oceanic, shoegaze infused gothrock music. Trance To The Sun was missing in action during most of the zero decade, having completed a small shelf full of albums in the '90s before the members moved away to pursue other artistic avenues.
I can tell you though, that we're very happy to be back!
I began writing music for this record back in 2009, and then in late 2012 I took an extended leave from most of my other projects to concentrate on this new Trance To The Sun album full time. Since then I've been rejoined by TTTS's most recent vocalist Ingrid Luna Blue (she sang on the albums Azalean Sea, Urchin Tear Soda, and Atrocious Virgin). Together, we're being accompanied by a most impeccable drummer you might know from some of my other recent endeavors named Daniel Henderson. After some months of secluded rehearsals and recording sessions, the songs have taken shape enough for me to assure you that this is going to be a fantastic album, full of all the epic and otherworldly psychedelic grooves, and all the dimly lit passageways you expect to find on a TTTS release. Numerous songs are coming along in the recording process, artwork has been created, vocals have been tracked. You can readily hear bits and pieces of what we're working on in our two Kickstarter Videos, enough to get the "vibe" at least. This page launches with Part 1 of our video, which you've probably watched by now, and if you feel inclined to watch more, Part 2 assembles more fragments of the picture:
Trance To The Sun's music has received a few fair landslides of critical acclaim, but our band has never been overwhelmingly famous. I don't know if you succinctly call it Gothic Psychedelia, but whatever it is we do, it seems to be a pretty remote genre. That's certainly part of why we've always sought to work efficiently, without wasting time or resources. Back in the '90s and early '00s, we toured the U.S. & Canada in a Volvo Wagon. We've produced all our records at home (save one). We never expected music to deliver us a luxurious lifestyle. We do what we do for the love of the work, and the love of finishing beautiful new things. Making a few friends along the way has been very rewarding as well.
That said, we are going to require some funds if we are to produce this album to the best of our ability. This will be the first TTTS record to feature live drums, and we need to outsource the recording of that aspect, etc. We're not asking the crowd to buy us a new tourbus here. It's just the basic costs of getting this record done right. In return, you'll be among the first to experience this enticing new release.

Like Kickstarter says, "Every great project needs great rewards!"
We think we're offering pretty much everything one could reasonably desire in this new and unexpectedly emergent format called 'crowd sourcing'. In addition to the download or physical album choices, there's autographed posters available, TTTS ringtones, bonus discs with demos & outtakes, and more! We're going to be filming a "Backer's Interview" too, so that anyone contributing $20 or more is eligible to submit a question to us at trancetothesun (at) gmx (dot) com, and we'll answer it over cocktails in a special video we make just for all you rad people! (note: The interview will be done in two installments, the first of which is September 29, 2013, so get your questions in early!)
If you don't see what you're looking for after perusing our list of incentives, please drop us a note at trancetothesun (at) gmx (dot) com. And if it's vinyl you're looking for, please purchase the digital download! We'll produce vinyl if we can gauge adequate interest, and in that event, previous buyers of the digital download will be eligible for a credit toward the purchase of the vinyl edition; that is, in the event we can justify the expense of making vinyl, which is kind of a longshot, just to be forthcoming. So purchase the download for ten bucks and drop us a note already!!!"
Stretch Objective!Funds pledged above and beyond our funding goal will help us produce additional music videos associated with the album, record more songs, and help us enhance our live performances. Oh yes, and the album is tentatively entitled "Aviatrix". Thank you ever so much for being a part of this experience.
Here's a synopsis of the rewards:
Watch Ashkelon Sain & Daniel Henderson, along with Dru Allen & Cindy Coulter of This Ascension, perform the Trance To The Sun song "Rex" live in concert in 2012.
Risks and challenges
We have made our best estimate in allocating adequate time to complete the album at its envisioned scope. Being the particularly demanding artists that we are however, we do acknowledge that if the mix isn't right yet, we aren't going to let the quality factor slide away in the direction of oblivion. If the completion of the album is delayed, or the upload of our promised videos are waylayed, you can trust that it's for good reason, and that the wait time will be held down to the minimum possible, so that we might maximize the quality of our output.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
