Help us bring the Vehicles of the Future to the Tabletops of today!
Help us bring the Vehicles of the Future to the Tabletops of today!
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Fri, October 4 2019 10:00 PM UTC +00:00.
Welcome to Vehicles of the Future!
The skies above Neo-Tokyo are empty, and we need your help to bring a fleet of cars, buses, taxis and more to the skies and thoroughfares of the future!
We have created a wealth of STL files for futuristic vehicles, most of which are available in 6, 15 and 28mm scales. Now we need your help to create the 3D masters and to bring these awesome vehicles all your tabletop!
The designs; we already have 14 sculpts ready to go!
We currently have 14 vehicles 3D designed and ready to go. Our fifteenth design will be chosen by YOU the fans, and it will be sculpted throughout the Kickstarter before being added to the lineup in all three scales.
We have had a lot of fun sculpting our current designs. Most of them have been sculpted by the very talented Cromarty Forge, but we also have a few designs by some insanely skilled interns!
The BIG Picture
We are creating our own world, and this world be the sandpit for our forthcoming range of tabletop games. Neo-Tokyo will be the backdrop for many of these games, and our first, Neo-Tokyo Drift, will incorporate all of our flying cars. In our Neo-Tokyo is set in the wider setting of Kore Earth, where technology has reached dizzying heights and the flying vehicles in this Kickstarter are as mundane as our wheeled cars, buses etc. everyday reality. But Kore Earth is also home to far less ordinary kaiju, giant mecha known as Templars, and cyberware. These will feature heavily in coming games.
Faster Than a Speeding Bullet
Flying cars are made possible by the Mikko Generator. This miracle of future technology creates the anti-grav technology used by all flying cars.
We believe that in fifty years or so manufacturers will create cars that fly, and their designers will give these flying cars style! Our designs capture not only the cutting edge sci-fi, but also the retro styling that would fit movies like Blade Runner and The Fifth Element. Suffice to say, some of these designs have been inspired by our favourite TV shows and movies!
Yes, But Do They Fly Or Hover?
Where we're going, we don’t need roads! In Neo-Tokyo cars fly at high speed and dizzying heights! There are roadways through the skies and parking bays on the upper floors of skyscrapers.
However, we also designed these models with a range of systems and scales in mind. So, if your favourite genre and setting doesn’t have flying cars, but it does have hover cars; don’t worry; we're got you covered! Our sculpts look equally good as hover cars that can be sat on the road, but also include flight stands. We will be unveiling those during the Kickstarter, and the pegs can be as high or low as you like. So you want vehicles hovering close to the road? Use a short peg! Screaming through the skies? Use a tall peg! The choice is yours.
These models have been designed with both gaming and painting in mind. Many of them are one piece casts and those that are multipart are specifically sculpted and created to be straightforward to build. This goes for all three scales, with the only real multipart kit being the Happy Burger Van, which even comes complete with a Happy Burger Chef (totally not a homicidal AI Warbot...)
There are a range of Vehicles in this Kickstarter in several scales; we want to fund the full range and have already completed a lot of the basic work. The all but the Adblimp are completely rendered, and, of course, the fifteenth sculpt is yet to be selected!
In order to bring the whole range to the tabletop we need additional help with the last of the sculpts, the master 3D prints, the master moulds and so forth. We are, therefore, looking to raise funds to allow us to accomplish these goals. The price of everything in this Kickstarter is at least 20% lower than the proposed retail price of each of these vehicles once they are released. The big models like the Hollander Skybus and Colossal Adblimp offer particularly good savings!
There is only one real pledge level for 15 and 28mm. You simply add up the total value of all of the vehicles you want as well as the quantities and that gives you your pledge level! We will calculate the cost of postage once we know the combinations and quantities of your selection.
£1+ Pledge: Take to the Skies!
Simply choose which vehicle(s) you want from any of the Kickstarter designs in any combination of 15mm and / or 28mm scale. Add the total value of the vehicle(s) that you want to calculate your pledge amount.
N.B. Postage is paid separately and calculated after the Kickstarter questionnaire is completed.
Freebies! Spend £50.00 or more and get a free Skytuk!
Mini-Me: add £25 to your pledge to receive all these Kickstarter vehicles in 6mm scale.
£250 Pledge: Build me a Car!
This pledge will allow you to sit down with our sculptor post-Kickstarter and have him design a vehicle for you! You will receive five casts of this vehicle (conditions apply; message for details) and it will also be included in the Kickstarter line up as well during the questionnaire.
N.B. postage is not included, but it will be calculated when we have your details on the questionnaire after the Kickstarter has ended.
This vehicle will be designed to your specifications, but the IP for it remains property of Kore and it will become a part of our range. You will be credited as designer and receive a complimentary copy of the STL files for personal use only.
N.B. if you want to add any other vehicles to your pledge, simply select and add them as normal.
£45 Pledge: STL Pledge
This pledge will get you all of the STL files for every design funded from this Kickstarter. This currently stands at 14 (15) sculpts. These will be sent to you 2-3 weeks after the end of the Kickstarter.
N.B. this pledge includes any Build Me a Car sculpts; these files will be sent later and as they are completed.
£25 Pledge: Mini-Me Me!
This pledge will give you two of each of the vehicles included in this Kickstarter in 6mm scale. We already have most of these vehicles printed in 3D, and the balance will be easily put into production.
We have set a funding goal of £2,500; this will allow us to have the last 3D renders completed, print the last few masters and make master moulds for everything. Once we have reached the funding goal, we will then open the floor for the contest to design the 15th vehicle within the Kickstarter. We will agree an idea, render it and prepare it all before the end of the Kickstarter!
At the moment any pledge of £50+ will receive a free Skytuk in 15 or 28mm. If the campaign keeps going, however, we have a few other ideas for cool stuff to sweeten the pledges!
Past experience has taught us that working with, and relying upon, third parties for your production and casting means problems at their end resulting in problems at our end. Worse still, there is very little we can do about it.
However, we now handle all aspects of sculpting, 3D printing and casting inhouse. Kore is a team of three who deal with all aspects of the company and its business. Owning our own 3D printers and casting facilities allows us the self-sufficiency to fulfil every aspect of this project ourselves. We even have plans in place should the Kickstarter go higher than our projections; we can expand our casting operation quickly to meet demand whilst also maintaining our regular releases.
Postage will be calculated and added to your Pledge manager questionnaire after the Kickstarter has completed. The vehicles such a varied range of scales, sizes and weights that it is impossible to estimate how heavy your package will be before we know what that package contains.
A7 Lightning Pursuit Cruiser
28mm = £12.50. 15mm = £6.50
The skies of Neo-Tokyo are renowned as one of the most congested skyways on the planet. Many of the city's inhabitants are fabulously wealthy and can afford to fly some of the fasted rides that money can buy; and those rides have the flight capabilities of a jet fighter. With potential joyriders, crooks and getaway drivers now able to fly at twice the speed of sound, the Constabulary required something rather special to catch the perps of Neo-Tokyo. Enter the A7 Lightnight Pursuit Cruiser.
Initially created by Omicron Technologies as an advanced reconnaissance vehicle for the Japanese military, the A7 has an integral EMP mine ejection system to discourage pursuit. This comes in handy when the bio-wired police pilot gets a speeder in their six... The demilitarised Constabulary version comes with a extras including twin integral prisoner pods. The only complaint the Constabulary pilots have is that the nano-bonded shell, which retracts fully to allow them to enter or exit the A7, has no windows that they can roll down at drive-thru's and Happy Burger bars...
When the NTC announced that they were introducing the A7, their recruitment of Sky Cops went through the roof. Every wannabe fighter jock that couldn't make the cut in the military applied, and Neo-Tokyo suddenly had the best policed skies on the planet.
The Blue Company Skycab
28mm = £10. 15mm = £5
As flying cars became a common site in the skies of tomorrow, it soon became clear that most cab customers wanted to be picked up on their own floor and dropped off at their destination rather than a nearby ground level entrance. As more architects built or adapted skyscrapers to accommodate these new travel requirements, there was an increased need for vehicles that could easily access the resulting landing pads and vehicle ports. The Blue Company Skycab was one of the first vehicles built with a fully retractable rear door, enabling the Bluecab to dock at or on most multilevel access points. The Bluecab can also be outfitted with a variable seating plan to accommodate most passenger requirements.
Within a few years of its release, the Blue Company Cab became a common site in cities across the globe. It is now one of the most popular vehicles on the planet.
The Caddie Shaq
28mm = £12.50. 15mm = £6.50
When the Flying car concept was originally launched, it seemed like every car designer followed the same design and aerodynamic shape philosophy. This lead to arguably the worst, most boring decade of car design since the 1980s. It seemed that almost every manufacturers' car was the same shape, layout and had almost identical performance and safety features. It was so ... dull.
Global sales of aircars dropped dramatically. That's when several vehicle Manufacturers stepped up and shaped the future by paying homage to the past. One of the first of this new wave of retro designs was the Caddie Shaq. Calling upon classical mid-twentieth century car design, the Caddie Company decided to make something insanely different from what else was in the skies. It became a massive hit with the rich and famous, and the first model off the production line is now a sought-after classic.
The Caddie Company went so overboard with subsequent models that Caddie Shaqs continued to grow in size. The current model is now bigger than the 20th century original. Many Caddies are capable of exceptional speeds, although the addition of even bioware pilot interfaces proved unable to improve its handling. The size and turning circle of the Shaq has often been likened to that of a hippopotamus wallowing in mud. Fans and owners, howevever, don't buy the Shaq for the driving experience but rather for the style and sheer opulence. After all, if parking a Caddie a statement, that statement would be, 'I am rich ... and I have arrived'.
We have made the Shaq with both flight rockets and tracks (mainly because tracks are cool), and you can specify either with your pledge. The retro look of the tracked Shaq will fit into all sorts of genres, from sci-fi to retro-apocalypse.
28mm = £10.00. 15mm = £5.00
This is one of our favourites; the model speaks for itself!
- Hollander Airbus -
28mm = £20.00 / 15mm = £10.00
This is the 2nd largest vehicle of the entire Kickstarter! This will come in at around 220mm at 28mm scale. Its an absolute BEAST of a Model! It will be cast in 2 halfs that have lugs to interconnect with each other and comes with a handy little widget that not only strengthens the connection but also allows for use of our Flying Base system - whether that be a low level or high level flight peg.
- Happy Burger Bar -
28mm = £15.00 / 15mm = £7.50
Happy Burger Van
The Happy Burger Van Model is our most complicated piece, but also comes with a lot more details! The interior of the Happy Burger Van is fully modelled and detailed - from the little sinks to the Chefbot, the 2 side shutters can open or close and are fully hinged. Not only that, but if you pledge for the 15mm and 28mm versions of the Burger Van, it will come with not 1 but 2 Happy Burger Chefs - with 1 of them being an EXCLUSIVE Kickstarter Chef!!
- Inman Deuce -
28mm = £10.00 / 15mm = £5.00
The Inman Deuce is a unique blending of Retro British Sports car styling, mated to pretty much any Avionics, Engineering and Electronics that Trevor, the CEO of the Inman Corporation can purchase, scrounge or steal.. (last claim is totally uncorroborated and alleged only).
- Royal Lady Limousine -
28mm = £12.50 / 15mm = £5.00
The Royal Lady is a combination of 20th Century styling with 21st Century technology and defences. The Royal comes usually as a Ground car but there are Skycar configurations available, and rumours are that there is a hybrid version for the truly filthy rich.
- Manta -
28mm = £15.00 / 15mm = £7.50
- Please note, the 28mm production model for this Vehicle will have separate engine units that can be angled for modelling.
The Manta was created by the newly formed 'Merican Muscle Car Corporation with 1 purpose in mind. Making the meanest blend of Performance, Style and Luxury in 1 oversized chassis.
- Skymini -
28mm = £6.00 / 15mm = £3.50
When Ostin Enterprize wanted to enter the Skycar market, they decided to do so at the lower cost end of the market. Looking to gain a toehold in the entry level market, they initially struggled to find just the exact "look" for their Skycar.
Once again, looking backwards to move forwards Ostin found that a very simple layout with a set of specially reduced anti grav units in a quad configuration could be dropped in a retro shell. This gave them a stylish, low maintenance vehicle that could be mass produced easily and that they could get to market at a price that even the common worker could afford.
- Peregrine -
28mm = £8.00 / 15mm = £4.50
The Peregrine Coupe! Sleek and stylish 2 seater coupe!
- Deliverance Skyvan -
28mm = £12.50 / 15mm = £6.50
One of the Skyvans' main strengths is its sheer flexibility. The mono cockpit comes with a basic but effective bio interface, manual controls and on the Prestige version a fairly decent AI Pilot. The hull itself has storage and access shutters on 3 sides with smaller storage bays forward. The topside and quarter roof panels are all maglocked - you can literally fill this little Van up and then maglock packages, storage units and just about anything to the outside. The unusual short quad anti gravs configuration are geared toward a low but extremely powerful ration meaning that the Deliverance can also be used as a heavy plant lifter as well upon occasion.
- Skytuk -
28mm = £4.00 / 15mm = £2.50
When India-Corp noted the success of the Skymini design, they decided that they wanted to break into that market. After careful planning they introduced the 2 person Skytuk - designed with the aim of bringing skycars to the masses!
Detractors of the little Skycar have noted that the revolutionary tri-antigrav configuration makes the Skytuk extremely unstable in flight at anything about 40-50mpg, India Corp have countered with the statement that most Skylanes are way too congested for more than this speed anyways.
The basic personal transport design is 2 person, and even then that can be a bit of a squeeze. There are, however, literally dozens of variants of the little Skytuk - sandwich bars, coffee vans, delivery companies.. all utilise versions of the Skytuk.
After Topflight ran a Holiday Special on Tukdrag Racing, a huge market now exists for illegal and insane Tukdrag races in cities and towns across the glove - strip out the extra seat and put in a more powerful drive unit and the Skytuk is capable of surprisingly high acceleration and top speeds. Just don't try to turn.
- Adblimp -
28mm = £25.00 / 15mm = £12.50
This is the biggest vehicle of the Campaign - the 28mm version comes in at around 240mm in length, and is even bulkier than the Hollander Skybus.
If you note that there is no gondola on the image above - this is deliberate, we have intentionally made the Adblimp scale-neutral. The 15mm and 6mm versions could be simply bigger or smaller Adblimps for whatever scale game you play. The 28mm could, for example simply be a very big Adblimp at 15mm scale.. or the 6mm version a smaller street Adblimp on a 28mm tabletop.
The AI control system is the small sensor part at the front! Making this bot controlled means no gondola and nothing to denote scale!
Fluff-wise, these things are everywhere! Cities across the globe, towns, skies pretty much everywhere have Adblimps. No antigrav units means they are cheap.. reinforced skins and modern gases mean they can stay up indefinitely and are easily programmed from a distance. The Robo AI follows a set flight path, and the more advanced ones are capable of screening a geographic area and utilising algorythyms to listen in to customers conversations via mobile phone and local listening points, tailoring the Adverts that it plays based on what it "overhears". Big brother is listening..
- I've had some messages asking about scale of 28mm models next to Heroic style miniatures.
Addons! - we will be releasing a range of Addons as the campaign progresses, these include items such as flight pegs and a rather special little vehicular upgrade that we are currently working on!
Addon Tuesday - First Addons!
If you want any of the Addons from the Graphic below, please add the appropriate amount to your Pledge!
The Stretched or Long LARC has an enlarged cabin - with a lot more seats (12) and a more highly detailed interior and ceiling. It takes (and comes with) all of the usual LARC build options - Medevac Pods, Quad Missile Launchers, Grenade Launcher, Mini Guns, Drone Racks, Optics.
The Next addons are the awesome Transit Loop Systems - if you want to add 1 of these to your pledge, simply add the price from the above chart to your Pledge. Each of the Transit Loops is 3ft in length, with the Tube systems being clear acrylic tubes, the supports in Lasercut Acrylic and the Engines in Resin.
The addons will also include some of our previous projects, so feel free to take a look back at the other vehicles we have done!
Lets get that funding goal done.. then look at these fellas!
Risks and challenges
We have discovered from previous Kickstarters, that one of the biggest risks is in using 3rd parties for your work - from Sculpting, 3d Printing and particularly Casting, you can plan as carefully as you like but if something goes wrong at the 3rd parties end.. you are kinda along for the ride and cannot do much about it. Our last Kickstarter was 75% delivered early and 25% muchr than expected.. This was incredibly frustrating for us but ultimately had a great outcome - the Universe provides, and recent changes to the Company structure now mean that we can fully Sculpt, 3d print, Cast, Pick, Pack and Dispatch in house..
In short there is no part of this process that we are not in direct control of, and no part that we have not planned for very carefully. We have timed how long it takes to finish the last few sculpt adjustments, to 3d print the last few sculpts and double checked the Casting, with backup plans to expand our inhouse capabilities should the Kickstarter go beyond our expectations.
We have timed everything, and are confident that we can deliver this Kickstarter, from Render to Cast to Delivery, well within time.
