24 New Yorkers on 24 Screens. 1 Day.
Thru|Lines is a ‘day-in-the-life-of’ documentary with a twist. The viewer will experience 24 stories simultaneously on 24 screens.
We are capturing moments of humanity, synchronicity and chaos for each of our 24 subjects as they live a day of their lives, creating, working, and traveling. Throughout the final piece, we intend to sync up moments when everyone is riding the subway or eating, depicting things that we all experience day-to-day regardless of our status in society. Each person's story will unfold throughout the piece set to an original score by Amanda Gookin of PUBLIquartet.
So far, we’ve followed the lives of 18 extraordinary people. They include:
- A US State Senator as he deals with the closing of a hospital while attending multiple Chinese New Year celebrations.
- One of the first organizers of the Occupy Wall Street movement as he wakes up in Zuccotti park to march against foreclosed homes.
- An 8-Year Old Girl as she spends her Saturday exploring the city.
- A lifelong New Yorker celebrating her 100 birthday.
- The Driver of a horse and carriage in Central Park.
- A deaf Tour Guide as he leads group at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
- A DJ and Performer who rocked New York's Highline Ballroom the night after Gay Marriage became legal.
- A Baker racing to complete a sculpted cake for a Day of the Dead themed Birthday.
- An Entrepreneur as she loads her food truck and makes fresh juice on the hottest day of the year.

About the Production:
We run a small crew and shoot entirely on Canon DSLR's. By keeping the crew and equipment small we are able to allow our subjects the freedom of going about their day while we capture as candid observers. Each shoot we walk a mile in someone's shoes!
This style of guerrilla shooting makes for a very visceral viewing experience and we believe that style will translate well to the installation, creating an experience unlike any other.
While today's reality television and documentaries can be very manipulative, we strive to provide a real look into the life of the ordinary person. Without voice-overs and interviews, we rely on the real events of the day to provide the narrative. This allows our story arcs to evolve naturally and provides a closer look into a person's life.
What is the money going to?
ThruLines is made up of 24 short films. The money we are asking for will go towards the production and editing of each of the 24. This covers limited crew support and equipment rentals for shoot days as well as editorial support to ensure we can deliver the best final product possible.
What if we exceed our goal?
Any money that we receive above our goal will go towards building the installation and marketing for the project.
Why should you fund this project?
This is your opportunity to ensure the creation of a one-of-a-kind piece of art. One that promotes the positive aspects of human life in our society. There is plenty of negativity to document: war, violence, natural disasters - the list is endless. We'd like to shed some light on the beauty in the world through a window into someone's life.
