About

Toaster Girl is the answer to the question “What if a super hero had a hilariously useless super power?” This series of animated skits will feature the protagonist, Toaster Girl, attempting to fight crime the best she can with her “super” powers. This Kickstarter will be raising funds for the production of the 4 part series of animated shorts.

Toaster Girl was not always the way she is today. Once upon a time she was just like any other ordinary girl, until one day when she foolishly tried to remove toast from the toaster with metal tongs and was electrocuted into a deep sleep. After re-awakening from the shock, she found that her head had been replaced with a toaster and she had no choice but to accept her destiny to become a hero and use her new powers for good. Nowadays, Toaster Girl sits on the kitchen counter listening out for news of criminal activity on the radio. Once she is alerted to danger, she is quick to respond and always first to the scene. Although firing toast and jam at criminals isn’t the most effective way of incapacitating them, it certainly distracts them long enough for the police to arrive.

I came up with the idea of Toaster Girl when imagining what it would be like to have super heroes that gained their powers in less impressive ways than normal super heroes. I thought it would be funny to have heroes with abilities that were more of a hindrance than anything else and that were seemingly useless in the face of danger. I designed a few characters like this, but the one that really stood out and made people chuckle was Toaster Girl. I decided that to do this character justice and to really capture her personality, I would create a series of 2-3 minute long animations showing off her abilities (or lack of abilities). I have a passion for making people laugh with my creations and characters and I hope that by completing this project, I’ll be able to share Toaster Girl with people all over the world.

To complete the project, I will be using 3D software to model the characters and animate them. I will therefore need access to more advanced software to help with the rendering, sculpting and more complex animations. The amount I have asked for will help me be able to afford this software, as well as upgrades for my computer that will allow me to create nicer looking animations at a faster and more efficient rate. I will also be able to use this money to outsource some editors to help with the editing process and speed up the production of episodes.

Once I have completed all 4 episodes, I plan to release the series onto my YouTube channel in December 2019.

I am a character designer, story teller and keen animation student currently studying at Coventry university. My work is often based around characters and their stories. I love creating personalities and building up their pasts to help create gripping tales for audiences to enjoy. Studying animation has really helped me take this to the next level, allowing me to portray characters’ emotions and traits through the way they move and act. I see myself as a people pleaser, in that I love what I do for the times when people see my work and It brings them joy. There’s nothing more satisfying than witnessing people watching your animation and seeing them laughing and interacting with it. My goal is always to get people emotionally involved with my characters, whether that emotion be love, hate or any other feeling. I see that as a success. However, personally I always like adding a bit of humour.

Risks and challenges

I will be starting my 3rd year of university in September. This, plus the fact that i will be doing the majority of the work on my own, may cause the release of the episodes to be pushed back into 2020. I only consider pushing back the release date because I want to deliver these episodes to the best quality that I can. I will work as hard as i can to get all 4 episodes completed by December, and keep you updated if plans are likely to change.

There is also the possibility of problems occurring in the printing and delivery process of the rewards. Packages can sometimes be lost or damaged in transit, and therefore can cause delays. I will track all deliveries to make sure that everything arrives on time, and i will notify you if any delays do come to pass.
