My name is Vin Downes, and I am a composer and fingerstyle guitarist from NJ, and this is my Kickstarter campaign….
I am getting ready to head back to Imaginary Road Studios in Vermont to record my fourth album, which will once again be produced by Will Ackerman and Tom Eaton, and feature some world class musicians. I am very excited to get these new songs recorded and out into the world. I feel this is the best music I have written to date.
Recording an album on this level and getting it out to radio stations and reviewers all over the world and promoted is a huge financial undertaking. Although I am funding the majority of this project, I am asking for your help. This campaign will help pay for studio time, studio musicians, mixing/mastering, CD production and promotion. I ask that you consider pre-ordering the CD and if possible, being a part of the creative process by making a donation to the project. I am offering some great rewards ranging from downloads, signed CDs, guitar tabs, Skype lessons and a house concert for you and your family and friends.
I have a goal of $5000. This is an all or nothing campaign. If my goal is not reached, I will receive nothing. This amount is only a fraction of the total cost of this project. I hope to reach and hopefully exceed this goal with your help.
Does Kickstarter work? Well, here's what my first Kickstarter campaign allowed me do. It literally changed my life...
Back in 2013, with the help of many wonderful people, I successfully funded the recording of my third album “Unlike the Stars”. This was a life changing experience for me. It gave me the opportunity to work with one of my biggest musical influences, Windham Hill Records founder and Grammy Award winning producer Will Ackerman and award winning engineer/co-producer Tom Eaton. The album included musical guests that included guitarist Will Ackerman, pianist Tom Eaton, bassist Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Pink Floyd) , Grammy Award winning cellist Eugene Friesen, and founding members of Chops Horns Daryl Dixon and David Watson. The recording experience with these musicians at Imaginary Road Studios taught me more about composing and performing than all my years of music education. It was an absolutely amazing experience.
“Unlike the Stars” ranked #7 on the Zone Music Reporters Best Albums of 2014, it was nominated for Acoustic Album of the Year at the 2014 ZMR Awards in New Orleans, reached #1 on the UK’s One World Music’s Top 50 albums chart, and was on the ballot of the 57th Grammys in the New Age category. Best of all, my music has been able to reach listeners all over the globe. The album has also been recognized by some of my own musical heroes, including one of my biggest musical influences, David Crosby. David has repeatedly shared my music via his Twitter page saying, "Just beautiful...I love your music."
The experience at Imaginary Road Studios offered me the opportunity to join and perform with Will Ackerman’s “The Gathering”, a group of incredibly talented musicians produced by Will and Tom at Imaginary Road Studios. I have performed alongside Will Ackerman and some of the finest musicians he has produced as part of “The Gathering Concerts” for the last two years in a number of beautiful theaters and venues. I will also have the opportunity to perform as part of a Gathering Concert at Carnegie Hall this fall....another dream come true.
So, with the support of many generous friends, family and fans...Kickstarter is an invaluable tool for the independent artist. I hope that you can join me in the creative process, and consider pre-ordering my new album and making a donation to the project. I promise that you will not be disappointed. I am extremely grateful for your time, encouragement and support.
Thank you so much. Cheers...
Risks and challenges
I have two weeks in July/August booked for recording, overdubs, mixing and mastering. If I am unable to complete everything in this time frame, completion of the recording may be delayed. Additional time would depend on studio, producer/engineer and musician availability.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
