Why is the Del Mar Shores Cinema series so awesome? Because it's about you.
It all started as an idea two years ago by some Del Mar residents much like you, who thought: "Hey, we have this fantastic open park space right in the heart of our community--let's do something cool with it that brings people together." And what's cooler than movies under the stars?
That's how it all got started last year. We had some fun and learned a lot. That's why this year we're doing things a little differently. This year, it's all about you. And it's about our community.
The Del Mar Shores Cinema Series is a free, family, outdoor movie series that celebrates our community's connection with the ocean. The ocean is, after all, our most important neighbor.
This year's films look closely at the ocean in fun, unexpected but always interesting ways. Surf films for women. Surf films for "old guys." The physics of surfing--how does it actually work? That and so much more.
Here's how we can make it happen. All we need to make this all a reality is $5,000. (That covers the cost of a screen, A/V, film licensing, labor, supplies, posters and bathrooms.) If everybody kicks in, we can get to our goal pretty quick. If we raise more than $5K, we'll invest it in next year's series, continuing to attract top films and filmmakers to our community.

The Cinema Series will take place over two Saturdays-- September 10th and 24th. The films will roll at sunset. Attendees will enjoy feature films, a selection of fantastic short films, as well as special appearances by some of the filmmakers. The Cinema Series will be located at Del Mar Shores Park, a 5.3-acre mixed–use community facility and special needs school, featuring little league fields, a community garden, dog park and breathtaking Pacific sunsets. It is located between Camino del Mar (Highway 101), 9th Street and Stratford Court in Del Mar, CA 92014.
Films will roll after sunset (around 7:30 p.m.) on Saturday, September 10 and Saturday, September 24, 2011. We'll be announcing the complete schedule very soon, but for now you can see our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/delmarcinema for specifics on the films that have been chosen, watch trailers and learn more about the filmmakers.
The Cinema Series was created and conceived by Del Mar residents Ian and Emma Leggat, and is organized by Friends of Del Mar Parks as a service to the community. Friends of Del Mar Parks is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to acquire, preserve, enhance, and support recreational, educational and open space in the Del Mar area for the benefit of the greater Del Mar community.

We've estimated the cost of a film screen, projector, A/V set-up, speakers, film licensing, bathrooms and printing posters to be about $2,500 per event. If we surpass our fundraising goal, the funds will be allocated toward making next year's Del Mar Shores Cinema Series even better.
The Del Mar Shores Cinema Series is an entirely not-for-profit endeavor, meaning no individual or organization is profiting from your donation. All planning, management and coordination of the event is done by community volunteers.
A committee of community volunteers has been researching films for the past several months in order to uncover the best, most interesting, most unique and relevant ones to showcase. We work closely with the individual filmmakers to secure permission to show their films. Although there will be a few options to purchase food and beverages, you might like to bring a picnic or your own beverages (alcohol is permitted if you bring it yourself), and be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on. Don't forget an additional blanket or sweatshirt to stay warm after the sun sets! Experienced outdoor film-goers also know the trick to bring a tarp to put under your blanket in case the grass is damp! Port-a-potty bathrooms will be available.
All prizes will be available for pick-up on the days of the film series--September 10 and 24th. The Romp at Del Mar Shores Park for your pup will be coordinated with you by email and will not take place on September 10th or 24th.

Yes, you will receive an acknowledgment of your pledge once the campaign is completed and all the transactions go through on September 1, 2011. This will include proof of Friends of Del Mark Parks' 501c3 status and tax ID number. The Friends of Del Mar Parks is a California non-profit corporation. It is certified as a 501-C-3 by the Internal Revenue Service, which means that contributions are tax deductible to the extent of the law. The Friends' tax ID number is 26-3194220.
