About this project
varconf = new Conference()
Hey Kickstarter! I am organising VarConference (varconf), a 3 day conference to be located in Northern Ireland for developers. Frontend, Game, Mobile App and Serverside Development will be at the forefront of our thoughts.
With multiple speakers covering anything from API Design to HTML5 Canvas applications, VarConference is aiming be the go to conference for all developers or those looking to learn more about what is needed to make the jump. With fringe events such as Panel Q&A Sessions, Workshops and our VarConference Hack Day we hope to bring seasoned developers of all ability levels, students and people with an ideas to once place to meet, share experiences and learn new things from the speakers.
$speakers = array()
VarConference will have in attendence some great and inspiring speakers from multiple disciplines to get your brains working and to give you tips and ideas to take away at the end of the overall conference. We will also have a number of industry experts leading workshops to help you learn and gain experience from. They will be interactive and will be very benifiting for those looking to learn more about certain topics. Each workshop will last 4 hours and will include food and beverages.
Elliott Kember - RiotHQ
The very talented Elliott Kember (@elliottkember) of RiotHQ. Elliott is an outstanding Ruby on Rails and Cocoa developer from Bath, England. Working as part of the team in Riot he has helped develop some of my favourite iPad apps including Showreel along with the recent build of another well known Northern Irish conference; BuildConf.
Currently the list of speakers and workshop experts is unconfirmed but once we start confirming names you will be informed in updates on Kickstarter.

Over the course of the three days, you will have plenty of oportunities to meet and engage with other attendees. Organised activities include welcome party drinkup and giveaway, an official hackday with prizes, workshops lead by industry experts along with an official after party.
class Hackday extends Conference
On the last day we are running a complete hackday. Put into practice what you learnt the day before at the conference. Team up with your friends or complete strangers and see what you can build over the duration of the day. A theme will be decided and will be announced prior to the hackday. The entries will be judged at the end of the day and prizes will be available for specific categories which will be made available at the time.
If you have any questions or comments, ask a question below and I will try my best to answer. Also remember to visit the newly launched preview page at http://varconference.com/
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is simply to create a great event that will be a lasting memory in the attendees minds, something that future developers could attend and be inspired to build the future of the web, games and applications.
While this will be the first official conference I have organised, it wont be the first event I have done. I have attended and spoke at many local conferences and have been to some of the most exciting ones around europe, but now its my turn to come up with the goods.
I know what attendees want and what they like so I am hoping that i can accomodate. Time scales are big factor of this first event, I am aiming for 2013 for the first event, but with a full time developer role and a personal life, it will be a challenge to juggle them all. But I am very confident I can succeed.
Not only is this the first event in this series, but I am hoping that it will be the first of many to come. With each new challenge there is a solution and as developers that is something we are used to.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
