For years I've gone by with the bare minimum of lettering supplies and tools required to design patterns. That was fine since I was simply lettering for enjoyment to decorate my own living space. However, now I'm ready to take these lettering skills to the next level and open a business. Because of that, I'll need professional equipment that will deliver high-performance rates to each of my designs. And for that, I need your help. Join me as I embark on my journey through Kickstarter, to Etsy, and eventually my own website. It's sure to be exciting and full of thrills!
The absolute lowest amount I need to launch this business is $100, but I know we can do far better than that! A sustainable fund would be around $500 so that I can order the add-ons for digital download (which is far more preferable than lettering each piece by hand, which can take several hours). Below is the chart of stretch goals for this campaign. Looks exciting, doesn't it?
The first $100 that I've set as the minimum sponsor funds will go towards purchasing pens, watercolors, and the professional brush markers needed to ship out your orders. At $200 I hope to buy photo-taking props such as a faux marble slab and white backdrop. Around $300 I'll look into the digital programs, and at $400 the tablet to transfer my designs onto that program. If we reach several thousand dollars, I'll look into buying a 3D printer and printing individual words as paper weights and home decor, this is an upcoming stretch mark after we reach $700.
Time of shipment heavily depends on which donation option you choose.
- Bookmarks will be mailed out first, in the same month that the campaign ends (September).
- Postcards and cards will be next, but extending just slightly into October (depending on how many bookmarks are ordered).
- Posters come after cards, as they take the longest to make (mailed out in mid-to-late September, and early November).
- If the stretch goals are reached, they will be shipped out last. I'll have to order the base products (notebooks, pillow covers, etc.) to produce them, and that will, I'm sure, take time.
For each donation option, such as bookmarks, multiple patterns will be available. You can view these options on the delegated Pinterest board, or scroll through the pictures on this tab. Once the project has been completed, surveys will be sent out and you can choose the design you'd like! If the survey is not answered, I'll choose for you! :)
note: Many designs will be written on chipboard brown cardstock (such as OPTION A), and have a colorful border for extra support (postcards: OPTION A). Others may be shipped out on thick watercolor grade paper, ready to use as a wall poster or bulletin board decoration.
These following patterns are simply templates and will not be mailed out. Your order is made specifically for you!
10% of all proceeds will be donated to a missionary in South America.
A big thank you to my brother, CJ, for directing and editing the promo video, as well as helping me through the details.
I'm also so thankful for my bestie, Anna, who helped me for an entire day filming and taking photos.
And, of course, thanks to all of you who are making this project possible! It couldn't be done without your help.

Risks and challenges
The main risk would probably be in recreating many of the lettering designs. Each one comes out unique, so the colors might be a little lighter or darker, and the proportions might be a just slightly off.
If we reach $550 and digital downloads are unlocked, I'll have to learn the programs and transfer software, so there could be complications in that area, but I'm sure the worst outcome would be minor delay.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
