What would you do if you accidentally started a game of footsie with your interviewer? How about if your high school nemesis was the only connection to your dream company?
Whether you send an edible arrangement, start a fire in the trash bin, or change your name and try again, Launch Mode will prepare you to take on the absurd as you gear up for the job market!
Launch Mode is our way of making job-related conversations less of a drag. Our game is simple—each round, one player poses a career related "worst case" scenario, and all other players submit their best, funniest, or cheekiest response. We think if you’ve laughed your way through an absurd scenario, you might just be more prepared when the real deal comes around.
The game includes 100 Scenario Cards, 350 Response Cards, and 2 Custom Dice (because we assume everyone is as prone to losing dice as we are). Launch Mode is intended for 4-8 players and a game typically lasts 30-40 minutes.
The beauty of Launch Mode lies in its versatility! So whether it's a gift for your college grad, an ice breaker or team-building activity for your group, or just a fun addition to your game collection, we've got you covered!

We believe that regardless of your background, your degree, your interests, and your network, there are common elements to every job search and career path. Our hope is that Launch Mode sheds light on that shared experience and reminds players that career exploration is hardly ever linear.
Launch Mode started as a harebrained idea from YouLaunchU leads Doug Ireland and Anna Eilertsen; both of whom are experts in finding humor in the humiliations of job seeking. Then Anna actually wrote it, Doug used his rolodex to get it in the right hands, and here we are!
Our game is the culmination of four years of work, dozens of institutions, hundreds of clients, and countless job seeking success (and horror) stories.
During the last several years, we’ve partnered with leading youth-development organizations currently serving high-trajectory students from under-resourced backgrounds in the Bay Area and beyond. Our module based workshops and one-on-one sessions help prepare these students for gainful employment.
Launch Mode revenue will enable us to devote more time to these high impact community organizations and the amazing students they serve.
Launch Mode is ready to launch! The content and design are in place and the manufacturer is secured. All that's left is mass production (March through May) and distribution!
Funding from generous backers not only will offset the costs of labor, design, production, and distribution, but will also allow us to donate games to youth development organizations, college career offices, and our awesome team of supporters.
The Cost Breakdown
While certain costs are still a wild card, below is our best estimate of how the funds raised will be allocated:
- Production: 40%
- Development: 28%
- Distribution: 20%
- Design: 5%
- Bulk Shipping from China: 4%
- Marketing: 3%
Risks and challenges
Our biggest risk is that no one will find this funny or helpful and we'll have to live out the rest of our days as failed game makers using our dusty pallet of games as kindling.
Previously, our biggest challenge was figuring out how to bring this crazy idea to fruition. But Bob Moog and his amazing team at University Games came to our rescue, and now we feel like game titans!
Now, our challenge will be ensuring the game gets into the right hands where it can make the most impact. We believe that many job seeking young people have unrecognized and untapped talents and we want to unleash that potential any way we can.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
