What is Silky Way?
It's a new magazine which allows the reader to understand the vibe of the place and encourages to experience it, rather than just see it. It aims to appeal to those who are interested in something more than just sightseeing.
Behind Silky Way there's a one-woman team. The magazine started off as a Final Major Project idea for my degree in Graphic Communication. I have always wanted to summarise and share my travel experiences with a wider audience. As a big fan of magazines, creating my own one has always been my dream. Final Major Project felt like a perfect opportunity to start everything off.
What I am hoping to achieve with Silky Way is to broaden people's outlook on traveling. The aim of the magazine is to provide the reader with ideas for how to immerse yourself in the culture and atmosphere of the place discussed in the issue and encourages to experience it, rather than just see it. Silky Way's aim is to make the reader eager to travel with the mindset of a free-spirit who is open to experiences that aren't usually covered by typical travel guides.
The 1st issue 'Tokyo Experience Guide' is a summary of my multiple trips to Japan and aims to provide the reader with the means to explore the city and its possibilities, beyond the contents of a typical travel guide. It looks into all those activities that are popular among the locals and might often be overlooked by visitors due to the lack of cultural knowledge about the city. What Silky Way wants to communicate is that there are no limits to what Tokyo can offer and exploring those possibilities is extremely rewarding.
'Different side of Cardiff' is a title of Silky Way's 2nd issue that is set to be released in late April/early May 2018. It will discuss and explore Europe's youngest capital; Cardiff, the capital of Wales, UK. With so little still being known to tourists and potential visitors about Cardiff and its real potential, in issue 2 Silky Way takes on another challenge - getting the word about the Welsh capital out there. Cardiff is full of hidden gems and bursts with real community spirit. For those who are looking for a bit of a different ‘city break’ experience, Cardiff and its Welshness might be the right choice.
Your pledge will go towards:
Silky Way is growing faster than I expected it to and with that growth there are also more responsibilities. Your pledge will go towards printing and shipping the 2nd issue (75%), Kickstarter rewards (15%) and Kickstarter fees (10%).
All of the funds raised, including any addition to the goal, will also be invested into our 3rd issue and other costs that will arise due to the magazine production process.
Thank you so much!
Risks and challenges
Having published one issue already, I know the challenges to bring another one to market. The only risk that comes with this project is the printing, as that's what the money Silky Way asks for will cover. Once printed, the magazines will be shipped to you ASAP.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
