I've been making The You Doll for 5 years now. It's something I did part time or on the weekends and because I never invested in marketing, sometimes it would be months between orders. I felt strongly that if I could overcome the retail challenges (custom made dolls can't be stocked on store shelves) The You Doll could be successful.
So in June I created The You Doll Super Hero DIY Kit. It includes all of the materials needed to make your own 12 inch tall, cloth super hero doll (inkjet printer and iron not included). Now, you may ask, "why did it take you 5 years to come up with the diy kit Pete?" and my answer is, "Let's just say I'm like that singer who's second album goes platinum though nobody can name the first." Also, it's possible that my mom is wrong and I am not a genius. But I digress...
I have timed this campaign to end in enough time to get the rewards to supporters in time for holiday gift giving. (International orders may need more time). The dolls look great sticking out of holiday stockings!
For all US supporters I am offering free shipping on rewards.
Risks and challenges
The greatest challenge right now is funding. Small amounts of money equals small quantities from the screen printer. I then have to completely sell that batch before I can purchase more fabric to bring to the screen printer for the next small batch. Then the sewing and cutting begins all over again which creates a gap between production and sellable product.
I need the help of the Kickstarter community in order to purchase the materials necessary to produce enough kits for the holidays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
