Through a Window is a new recording of songs I did with area musicians including Celeste Abril Ixchel on musical saw from Milwaukee, Ben Willis of the Weather Duo on upright bass, Page Foster and Jackie Wochos on harmony vocals, Scott Caldwell on drums and masterful viola playing by Marissa Reinholz. The cover art and design is by Beehive Collective member, Tyler Norman and the recording itself was done at Dacha Studio by Lonya Nenashev of Red Square Audio with additional recording and production work by T.J. Pauley, also at Dacha.
It is a beautiful recording, to be enjoyed for years to come. The songs come from adventures in bicycle travel both in groups and with my comrade Douglas when he and I lived on the road for five months before landing in Austin, Texas in 2004. It took years for me to write and refine the songs on this album and only one day in the studio to record them with Lonya's expert recording techniques. T.J. took it from there and has been adding tracks to complete the album and give the listener the best possible audio experience this music can give.
The money raised through this kickstarter campaign will go to create copies of the album through Sooper Dooper, a local CD duplication service. I will take albums with me on the spring Earth Week tour TNT and the Beehive Collective are doing of the Midwest in April. Additional funding will go to Lakeside Press in Madison, the collective printing the lyrics sheet. I would also like to pay the album cover artist and the recording and production engineers for their hard work! Any donations over the goal will go to reward all of the musicians who played on this project.
Thank you for considering supporting the release of Through a Window. In a world full of recorded music, both commercial and independent, this recording stands out in terms of the high quality of sound and performance.
"Thistle's voice is powerful and provocative. With raspy realism, her lyrics paint a picture of life on the road (via bicycle), rage about the killing of the earth and a commitment to fight back."
