The air is thick with the sounds of hearty laughter, glasses cheerily clinking, soft music for dancing, intermittent conversation, growing paranoia, and wild accusations. In this lounge, the Mafia and the town’s protectors are squaring off in secret. Nobody knows enough to tell either group apart from the ordinary citizens enjoying a drink and a night out but everybody knows that no one will be safe until one of the sides is through. Suddenly, the officers walk into the center of the room. One of them, with a few doughnut crumbs on his shirt, speaks up to the crowd: “Alright, lets get this underway. Please step forward if you have evidence that anyone present is involved with the Mafia.”
The Lounge is an exciting social deduction game based on the extremely popular Mafia and Werewolf games. In it, you play the role of one of the members of a town. You could be in the Mafia, and want to gain power in the town by eliminating anyone who stands in your way. You could be one of those townspeople, attempting to rid your beloved city of all dangerous and malicious folks. Or, you could have your own goals, and be one of the several different 3rd party roles present in this game.
If you need to be convinced of the fantastic illustrations that will be present in The Lounge, simply look below to see some examples of what our artists, Lina Cossette and David Forest have done.
So, the strength to any Mafia game is its selection of Roles. The Lounge has a strong base of roles hand selected for it. You can see our list below, separated into whether they are a Town, Mafia or 3rd Party sided role.
This Roles list can be expanded in two ways. In addition to all of these cards, the game comes with a few blanks to allow you to add your own roles. Additionally, several of our stretch goals will add to this list.
To start the game, players choose one person to narrate, and sit the game out. The narrator runs the game, and holds the fates of the players in his or her hands. Then, a group of roles is decided upon. In general, the town makes up half of the game, with the other being split between the Mafia and 3rd party roles. Once the roles are decided upon, the narrator will shuffle the cards, and hand them out to each player. The players will look at their role, and then hide the card. The game can now begin.
The game starts with a night round, which is explained above. At the end of the night round, the narrator will announce the relevant happenings (Who died, who got outed by the Loudmouth, etc), and will ask the recently deceased to go join the "Morgue". The recently deceased can watch the game, but may not participate or interact with the remaining players. The next round is the day round, which is also explained above. Once voting has taken place, the Narrator determines if someone has died, and then asks them to join the Morgue. Next, another night round begins.
The game ends when someone meets their win condition. For the town, they have to eliminate all Mafia members and relevant 3rd party members. The Mafia needs to gain a majority in the town with relevant 3rd party members eliminated. And the 3rd party roles have win conditions ranging from being voted off during the day (Jester) to killing everyone in the game (Serial Killer).
If you have any ideas for things you'd like to see in the campaign in terms of stretch goals, please let us know in the comments! We have some great things planned out, but we are sure that you have some great ideas as well.
Want to hear what people are saying about The Lounge? We've gotten a few previews and discussions going. See what we've all been talking about below!
The Lounge will be in our backers hands by Christmas time. It seems fairly far away now, but most of the illustrations for the game have not been completed yet. Once they are finished in August, we can send the files to our manufacturer, and start the process.
Speaking of our artist, we could not have done this without the beautiful work of Lina Cossette and David Forest.

Risks and challenges
There are a few risks that we have identified, and we have taken steps to avoid them:
~Art Schedule: There is still a large amount of the artwork to be completed, and that will take time. We have already discussed with David and Lina what will happen after the campaign, and they have given us an estimated completion date, as well as alerted us to a few obstacles that may happen during those months. We are confident in their abilities, and have taken steps to prepare for those obstacles.
~Manufacturing: As discussed previously, we are hoping to start the manufacturing process in August. We have added a bit of padding into the estimated completion date to account for any delays. If something unexpected should happen, we will be as transparent as possible.
We are confident in our ability to bring our project into reality, and hope that you join us on our journey.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
