This project's funding goal was not reached on November 28, 2011.
About this project
In the likely case we do not reach our goal, kickstarter will not charge our backers, and we will not receive any money (considered "pre-orders") for the LED By LITE - Lite Systems.
To each of our Kickstarter backers we want to thank you for your belief and support in our efforts. We will send a unique code for the pledge amount which is valid until January 31, 2012. You may use this on our website to order an LBL Lite System at the kickstarter 30% off msrp price.
We at LED By LITE will continue to pursue our February ship date. Get your LBL Lite System at www.ledbylite.com

This project has been an exciting bootstrap effort and we are looking forward to the next phase.
Automobiles and motorcycles have a specific lighting system of head lights and tail lights so to provide illumination for the driver to operate the vehicle safely. When a bicycle competes with these other vehicles on the road it needs to have similar features to see and be seen as a significant and relevant vehicle as well. When designing our LED By Lite System our goal was to develop the safest, most durable and most comprehensive lighting system produced for a bicycle. We are working to achieve this with the most feature rich bicycle lighting system available which gives the rider an added edge of safety.
At this time, the features of our LED By Lite Systems include:
• From 24 or 48 High Intensity LEDs to provide a cyclist with the most radiant 360 degree “to be seen” visibility
• The LEDs are encased in flexible polyurethane/silicone straps making them waterproof and durable
• A fully rechargeable BlackBox, with either a single or double cell 12 Volt Lithium Ion Battery Pack produces intense lighting without sacrificing run time
• A wire harness that connects the BlackBox and Lite Straps together allowing for flexible configurations
• Our unique QAD System allows for Quickly Attaching and Detaching of the Lite Straps from the bike frame. The battery is also removable in seconds with its Velcro attachment method. The entire system can be removed in about 30 seconds and installed in a minute, helping to protect the light system from theft
• Our Dashboard is a wireless controller attached at the handle bar grip for easy thumb control. The Dashboard operates the light modes and turn signals
• Light modes include Dimming Pulsation for day and night time riding (not blinking on and off)
At this time we offer 3 systems: Visit each system to view configurations
• What we are trying to do
We have been developing and refining LED By LITE over the past year and we have come a long way. Our next effort is to go from R&D to production and marketing. We have designed all the parts, packaging, website, Company branding in house and do all assembly and manufacturing in our home state. We have filed a patent in the USA and a provisional in Europe. It has taken all our resources to get to this point.
• How far along are we
To date we have completed and tested our first single cavity injection molds and have built first generation working LED By LITE Systems. We took these systems and rented space with a booth at the Interbike trade show in Las Vegas on Sept 13-16. This gave us great feedback. We have discovered things we need to tweak to make the product ready for market.
Check out some feedback from a blogger who came by our booth:
• How we will do this
We need to resolve the finer details of the design to make it a long lasting high quality product. We need to make over-molds on our wire harness for water proofing. We need to make a die cut for our packaging. We need to develop a mass assembly process for producing these systems. Most importantly we need to build inventory in order to follow through for our backers.
Next we have to get the word out there and implement our marketing and sales plan. We have built a website to draw people to www.ledbylite.com. We have contacts with magazines for advertising and connections with distributors and dealers we need to pursue.
• How the funds will be used
The majority of the funds will be used for developing the mass production process. We need to build multi-cavity molds for greater quantities and an assembly line process. We also need the money to build the first production inventory to meet demands. Out of this money will be able to deliver the promised systems to our Kickstart Team Members.
We will also use the funds for marketing. We have plans to advertize in a number of bicycle magazines, publications and social media. We have plans to tour and attend a number of bicycle community events throughout the country.
Thank you for taking your time to view our project. We appreciate your support.

There is a slot in the middle of the Blackbox to feed the provided Velcro which loops around any post on the bicycle. With the universal wire harness and optional use of an extension cord, the Blackbox can be mounted on the front of the bike or rear.
Check out the video on the update page of the 16 positions we put the Blackbox.
The LBL Lite System will adapt to virtually any configuration or bike frame. With our universal wire harness and available extension cord, the lite straps can be mounted with some distance between Blackbox. When mounted, the wire harness looks like a brake line.
Check out the video in our latest update where we add 6 extension cords (9.5 feet) to one Lite System.
Also see our gallery of bikes we have installed the LBL Lite System on, road bikes, mountain, and even a tandem.
Blackbox (single cell), included with Systems 36 & 36 Plus, will run 3 - 6 hours depending on your mode.
Weights - 80 grams
Blackbox Squared (double cell), included with System 48 Plus, will run 4.5 - 9 hours depending on the mode.
Weights - 124 grams
Check out the update page for graphical description of the main parts.
The LBL Lite System has been designed so that all parts of "value" may be removed and reinstalled with easy.
Meaning that the Lite Straps and Blackbox detach when the bicycle is parked or not in use. All that would be left mounted to the frame would be the wire harness, and extension cord. When installed the wire harness and extension look like a brake line.
The wire harness may be attached to the bicycle frame in 2 ways:
with Velcro, or with provided zip ties.
