The Bass Coalition is throwing its third annual Summer Workshop: an educational event for double bassists from all walks of life. (Electric bassists welcome, too!)
Events include participant bass ensembles, masterclasses, clinician concerts, one-on-one instruction, and clinics that range from classical and jazz to alternative playing styles (upright slap bass, etc.), amplification, looping, and more. With instruction in such an array of genres, the workshop aims to go beyond education to also foster a sense of bass community.
An important aspect of the workshop is getting the opportunity to play in chamber groups, which is an activity often reserved for every stringed instrument except for bass. Bass ensembles have proven to be a very important tool in the growth of a bass player's musicality, as it forces them to listen more intently and communicate clearly.
Now YOU can help the bass community and music education by supporting the Bass Coalition's 2012 Summer Workshop, to take place June 16th in Winchester, Virginia. Your generous donation will go towards renting the space needed, tuning pianos for masterclasses, and even providing tuition for young bass students in need.
