Frequently Asked Questions
We have to wait for Kickstarter to process all payments -- Keys will be emailed to you about 7 days after the Kickstarter ends. Our best guess is August 10th, 2017.
You can claim your BlackDollars, Reward Points, King Points, and Skulls as soon as you receive a key!
Keys will also unlock closed testing access in a few months, and Expansion benefits in December 2017.

There are two Community Missions!
Mission 01 - Like us on Facebook at:
Mission 02 - Share the Announcement:
All backers at 'The Flayer Tier' or higher ($80) receive a free powerful Tech Despoiler ship! This is the only ship in the game with a natural Technician bonus, allowing it to remove grapple or other harmful effects from friendly units! This is a unique ability not available outside of kickstarter rewards.
All kickstarter backers will receive 1 KING POINT per $1 pledged. You can use the :KING chat command to give or sell these points to other players. Any player with 10,000 King Points may create a Heteroclite King ship.Last updated:
Heroes of Dire players will also get 2,500 Silvers for every $1 pledged!
Just enter your TIB Expansion key as a promo code!

Credits are the standard currency in The Infinite Black: Credits can be used for things like buying and selling items or resources, unlocking new ships, and deploying corporate Garrisons.
BlackDollars are the premium currency of The Infinite Black. However, we will experiment in closed testing by converting them to Credits and removing them entirely from the game (i.e. there will be no more "premium" currency!) They are currently used for upgrading items, unlocking certain ships, instant repairs, and instant jumps to or from Earth.
Reward Points are normally earned from deconstructing unwanted items, or as a bonus when buying BlackDollars. Reward Points can be converted into certain hard-to-find items. (Used with the :REWARD chat command).
Skulls are another currency earned by Alliances for killing enemy players. Alliance leaders can craft powerful items and activate alliance-wide 24-hour perks. (Used with the :SKULL chat command)
In the expansion we'd like to experiment with removing many of our confusing currencies, and simplify everything to a Credits-only system. Kickstarter backers will get to help us test this before release.Last updated:
All pledge amounts between your current tier and the next tier will receive +50 BlackDollars per additional $1 US pledged.
For example, the BlackDollars reward for "The Executioner Tier" ($120) is 6,125 BlackDollars. If you were to make an additional Pledge of $50 (bringing your total Pledge amount to $170) you would get $50 x 50 BlackDollars = 2500 BlackDollars added to your final reward. This would give you a total of 6125+2500 = 8,625 BlackDollars.Last updated:
The "Retro" rewards are unique ships with artwork based on the original designs!
These do not replace your existing ships. They are a second ship that can be traded or sold. Many of them also have unique stats and mechanics that will not be found on normal ships, such as the permanent +5% Marauder damage bonus on The Retro Flagship!Last updated:
Each player will have a "garage" that stores their ships. Each ship has its own equipment set.
All of your existing items, ships, money, and corporations will continue to exist in The Expansion. All of your current ships from any server can be accessed from your garage, with all of its current gear. Nothing will be lost.Last updated:
Currently, The Infinite Black has purchasable Repair Drones and Fighter ships that assist you in combat. They are mostly non-interactive and give minimal bonuses.
In The Expansion, we'll be turning Repair Drones and Fighter Drones into items you can equip in your ship. Some ships (like the Carrier) will let you use multiple drones!
Drones give stat bonuses and have activated abilities, such as Instant Repair, that you can use from a hotbar.
If our first stretch goal is met, we will add Shields to the game. They function as "temporary health" that recharges over time while you're outside of combat. The "shield" concept will improve how the game is played with new strategies, gear options, and mechanics.
These items will be tradable, but Bind on Equip.Last updated:
A new "Quality" rating is being added to all items with the crafting system.
Quality determines how good an item is, with the possibility of -10% or +10% stat difference from item to item based on its quality. An Ultimate Perfect item is exceptionally rare and valuable -- It's 10% better than normal Ultimate items!Last updated:
Stretch Goals are features we want to include in the expansion, but they require additional time, energy, and money beyond the core update. These goals are a realistic estimation of how much it will cost to pay artists and developers to complete.
Reaching a Stretch Goal will guarantee the feature is implemented.
If we don't reach a Stretch Goal, it might still make it into the game, but without funding we cannot promise anything.Last updated:
This is an expansion of the existing game. It is not a new game.
All of your existing ships, money, corporations, and items will continue to exist.
Players will notice some changes, particularly with alternative currencies like Claim Points, Combat Points, Skulls, and Reward Points. The Infinite Black has at least 8 different currencies and it is very confusing for new players. We will be working with Kickstarter backers to figure out the best way to streamline them during closed testing.Last updated:
A core focus of this expansion is to add new Player vs Environment (PvE) content with vastly more to explore and discover.
We're going to work with kickstarter backers during testing to develop PvE-only content where all players, regardless of Corporation, are challenged by NPC enemies instead of against other players.
In addition, we'd like to figure out the best way to give players a PvE-only option for farming that doesn't risk disruption to the game economy through automated scripts and botting. We're taking suggestions on the forums now!Last updated:
A powerful new ship has been introduced, called The Heteroclite King. We estimate that 10 or less of these ships will ever exist, but who gets one is up to you!
There are two ways he can be summoned:
- Alliances may deploy a special shipyard once they terraform their planet to Gaia V. This construction project will require significant resources, and produce a single Emperor Class ship.
- All kickstarter backers will receive 1 KING POINT per $1 pledged. You can use the :KING chat command to give or sell these points to other players. Any player with 10,000 King Points may create a Heteroclite King ship. Note: The Ultimate Tier receives 10,000 points which they can use to claim their king, or do with as they please.
(Expansion only -- Dec 2017)
Disclaimer: Emperor Class ships are subject to game balance changes. We may modify them to protect the integrity of the game. Please consider this before pledging.Last updated:
