About this project
This is the bag that everybody, at some point in their life, wishes they had. Sometimes you just need a safe place to put your personal items and valuables while you do something else. Our purpose for creating this bag really is that simple. This product is essentially a portable safe that lets you live more and worry less.
We invite you to spend some time reading our campaign. We are passionate about our product, and we use these bags everyday. They work, and they do make our lives better. Please join us. Nothing makes us happier than seeing something we created benefitting the lives of others.
flak /flăk/ n.
1. the firing of guns from the ground at enemy aircraft, or the bullets, etc. that the guns fire:
2. harsh criticism; hostile reaction; abuse:
The Flak Sack seemed like an obvious name to us for a bag that can withstand whatever life throws at it. The Flak Sack by the LOCTOTE INDUSTRIAL BAG CO. is the toughest (if not the only) theft-proof drawstring backpack ever. It was designed to accommodate the lifestyles of people on the go needing to have their essentials with them, but not able to be constantly looking after them. This slash proof bag is a portable safe for your valuables. Simply lock the bag closed and to any secure object - and leave it without worrying about it being tampered with, damaged, or stolen. PROUDLY made in the USA.
It comes in two fabric colors with your choice of rope colors.
LOCTOTE™ bags are crafted from a double-layer of the most advanced cut resistant fabric in the world. Woven from a proprietary blend of high molecular weight polyethylene (HMWPE) and other state-of-the-art fibers, the fabric was originally developed for use in high performance body armor and personal protection under-garments for law enforcement, corrections, and security workers. Our bags have the highest possible Blade Cut Resistance, Tear Resistance, and Abrasion Resistance ratings based on international (ISO) and European (EN) standards. Our bags are 5 times more cut resistant than Kevlar®, a material known for its use in bulletproof vests.
Simply put, no fabric available today is absolutely 100% cut-proof. If it was, you wouldn't be able to make anything with it. Our bags are the most cut resistant you will find in the market, and it takes very specialized equipment to make them. To a thief, it's not worth the trouble. So how cut resistant is it? We shot a video with a shirt made out of our fabric to demonstrate that we don’t just say that we stand behind our claims, we literally stand behind them. We are confident that we have created for you The Most Extreme Drawstring Backpack in the World.
Pull it, lock it and leave it. It’s that simple. The secret is a patent-pending locking strap and heavy-duty solid brass and hardened steel lock that enable you to lock your bag shut, and to a fixed object. Tested to over 1,000 lbs on the Strapinator (basically, a medieval torture device for bags), the flexible cut and break resistant tubular nylon lock strap is reinforced and grommeted with custom stainless steel components and 49 strands of stainless steel wire, making it nearly impossible to cut, break or tear without extreme force or heavy tools. This strap resides in a hidden channel constructed between the layers of the extreme cut resistant fabric, where it remains out of sight and out of they way until you need it. The lock itself also stores securely and out of the way behind the leather LOCTOTE logo patch.
As RFID radio transmission technology is becoming increasingly widespread in passports, credit cards, debit cards, identity cards, key cards, and access control cards, the risks of “electronic pick-pocketing” (identity and personal data theft, payment fraud, and unintentional contactless payment) are on the rise. Without shielding, unauthorized parties can read the data stored on these items with the aid of an RFID reader, from a distance without any direct physical contact. Each LOCTOTE™ bag comes with a large water resistant internal pocket lined with a patented FIPS 201* certified RFID blocking material which is approved by the US Government for effectively shielding all contactless credit cards, passports, drivers licenses, ISO 14443A/B and EPC Gen1/Gen2 contactless smart cards that operate at 13.56 Mhz and above (13.56 Mhz interface is the one that typically contains personal data).
*FIPS 201 certification indicates successful testing against a rigorous, comprehensive set of functional requirements derived from government-wide specifications.
Stuff happens! Rain, spills, splashes, puddles, high-tide, and general carelessness are the enemy of your small electronic devices and leather goods. Each LOCTOTE™ bag comes equipped with a large (capable of holding an iPad Mini) water-resistant interior pocket crafted from urethane coated 200-denier nylon, heavy-duty coated-polyester thread, and a color-matched water-resistant YKK Aquaguard® zipper to keep your stuff safe & dry from the perils of an active lifestyle.
You won’t believe it until you feel it… LOCTOTE™ bags are brutally durable yet unbelievably soft and supple. It’s no surprise, when you consider that they are constructed of a fabric originally developed to be worn against the skin. They are so soft that you can actually use them as a pillow, and to prove it, I stuffed one of our bags and had my youngest daughter sleep with it as her pillow every night for a week. She found our latex-free fabric to be soft, comfortable, non-abrasive, and non-irritating. Unfortunately, my wife cannot say the same thing about my approach for testing softness…
This is the bag you’ll want to take with you everywhere like a trusted friend. They are lightweight, comfortable to carry, foldable, packable, crushable, wrinkle-resistant, hand-washable, UV resistant, latex and gluten free, and beautifully handcrafted in the USA. Whether you’re dressed for the office, the gym, the beach, or a night out — LOCTOTE™ bags are a soft reliable friend that will protect your stuff from thieves, and you from bland accessories.
When you start with a blank sheet of paper you get to re-think everything. That’s what we did with this bag. We considered the best way and the best materials each step along the way. We purposefully over-engineered, over-designed, and over-built. Nothing was left to chance, and in the end we created a product that is functional, packed with features and built to last.

We started from the ground up. We were inspired by the functional simplicity of Mid-Century Minimalism, the freedom of thought and disregard for existing rules of Abstract Expressionism, and the innovation, strength, and enduring quality of Vintage Heavy Industry.
We thought through everything and skimped on nothing. We did things to test our bags that didn’t make our moms proud (and possibly violated a few city ordinances). Good enough wasn’t good enough. We saw beauty in strength and elegance in simplicity. We got in touch with our softer side, and we kept innovating until we got it right. At the end of it all, we created a product that we think will blow your mind.
We are a small company located in the heartland of America and are proud to be doing our small part to keep America great. We still believe in the American dream and the values that industrialized our nation and made it great — quality and craftsmanship forged from the sweat and labor of strong dedicated workers who take pride in their trade while creating innovative products that improve lives. Though we scour the globe to find the absolute best technologically advanced materials, we go to great lengths to purchase materials made in the USA. We do 100% of our manufacturing and assembly in small hardworking American towns with people and businesses that matter. We compromise on nothing when it comes to quality and authenticity, and cut no corners in crafting goods built to outlive their owners. There’s nothing fancy and no secret formula to what we do. We’re just hands-on hard-working folks providing customers handcrafted hard-wearing products at a fair price. It’s really quite simple.
The idea behind LOCTOTE came as a result of a family vacation in St. Croix. My wife and kids had all gone back to the room for the day, and I decided to stay out on the beach and do some snorkeling. Before heading out into the water, I put my phone, earbuds, and cash in my shoe, which I covered with a towel and left on a beach chair. I swam out about 100 yards, and when I looked back to shore, I saw an individual shuffling through my stuff on the beach, and then walk away with something in his hand. I yelled to him, and swam back to shore as fast as I could, but by the time I got there, both he and my stuff were gone. This was a real downer for the vacation, and I decided that I needed a solution to prevent something like this from ever happening again.
When I got back to the states, I began my search for a solution to the problem. To me, the problem was more complex than just a way to prevent my personal items from being stolen when I was at the beach. I had a whole list of requirements for this product I was seeking. First and foremost, I wanted a way carry my personal items that would enable me to securely fasten them to a stationary object so they couldn’t be tampered with or stolen. In my mind, this would require a locking mechanism that couldn’t be broken, cut, or torn, and the container itself also needed to be made of something that was resistant to cutting or tearing. I basically wanted a product that would be impenetrable to thieves of all kinds, including protecting my credit cards and passports that contained RFID chips from unauthorized scanning (digital pick-pocketing). Conversely, I wanted something stylish, attractive, and functional — something that would seamlessly fit into my everyday life, that I would enjoy using and be proud to be seen using. More and more, this was sounding to me like some kind of a bag.
That’s what I needed — an everyday “go to” bag that would meet all my technical requirements, and still be soft, foldable/packable, comfortable, highly functional, attractive and fashionable, and durable — and one that would clear my ultimate hurdle -- being able to get my wife to carry it. That shouldn’t be hard to find, I thought. Well, it was. In fact there was no product on the market that was even remotely close to what I was looking for. After exhausting my search, I began the process of creating the bag I was seeking. It took hundreds of hours of research, and countless prototypes and failed attempts. In the end, we have created a product that will blow your mind. Bags that are soft and beautiful, packed with features, and insanely durable. Some people say that our products are overkill, and that we must be over-compensating for something. Maybe.
We're Don and Adam. No special roles or fancy titles here. In a company this small we all do everything from the highest level strategy and media planning, to cleaning up poop from Gizmo the 3lb micro-dog.
Don is a recovering Management Consultant. With over 27 years experience helping companies become more operationally efficient, building and selling several firms, and traveling several million miles along the way, he has the skills, experience, work ethic and judgement necessary to make a business succeed.
Adam is a soon-to-be grad from The Ohio State University Fisher School of Business. With a focus on marketing, unlimited drive, and a thirst for learning and everything social, he provides fresh ideas, creative insight, and the skills to deliver it.
Most importantly, we both personally take 100% responsibility for ensuring that our backers' products are fulfilled and their expectations are exceeded.
It has been a long journey to get to Kickstarter. For over a year we lived a multi-threaded iterative process of researching and acquiring materials, designing and building components and prototypes, testing, failing, learning, and doing it again. Eventually, we got it right, and then we kept going until we felt we couldn’t get it any better.
From there we attacked the sourcing challenge – to make this bag and as many of its parts as possible in the USA. We drove thousands of miles, visited factories, workshops, and distributors in towns that were barely even on some maps, made friends, and issued purchase orders. Eventually, we were able to put all the pieces together from sourcing to manufacturing to fulfillment. We have purchased (there’s no trade credit in the start-up world) 100% of the materials and components needed for our first 1,000 units, and we have delivered the materials to our US manufacturer. We did it all with our own money.
Now its Go Time. The proceeds of this Kickstarter campaign are all that we need to drive this across the finish line. With your help, we can make the necessary down payment to our manufacturing partner so they can configure the resources to begin production.
We have been sourcing materials and components, coordinating production, and preparing for delivery for over a year now. At the center of it all is our Columbus (actually New Albany), Ohio facility. Our hands-on process does not involve any third-party warehouses, fulfillment centers, or middlemen. We are involved with every aspect of our value and supply chain. Keeping the wheels and cogs running smoothly requires full-time daily involvement and oversight – and that’s what we do. When this Kickstarter Campaign closes, we will be laser focused on production and fulfillment, and in communicating with our Backers in a transparent and timely fashion. It’s not our goal to just meet your expectations. We want to blow you away and create a real community of Backers who will be thrilled to work with us again on future projects.
A big thank you for checking out our project and for your help in making it a reality. Even if you can't support us with a pledge, contribute to our project by spreading the word on social media. Like, Follow, or Tweet us!

Risks and challenges
Over the years we have accumulated deep and broad business experience. This provides us the foresight and insight to be able to identify and minimize the most likely risks and challenges before they occur. We never let these out of our sight. All businesses face risks and challenges, and any business owner who believes they do not, is simply fooling his or her self, or is too naïve to recognize them. Risks must be actively managed, and "hope" is not a risk management technique. In order to better manage our risks and challenges, we approach them in 7 broad categories.
• Supply Chain
• Force Majeure
Internal: Internal risk refers to our ability to perform our work and deliver on our promises. These typically refer to labor issues, skill-set shortages, lack of capabilities, and management problems. We are a small company and we’re all owners. We have deep hands-on business management and operations experience, and a large rolodex of industry contacts. This is our dream, and we are 100% committed to making this a success. We maintain a very supportive and collaborative culture, and there is no amount of coffee we won’t consume and hours we won’t work in order to deliver on our commitments to our Backers.
Product: Product Risk refers to the risk of the end product not living up to expectations. This could be with regards to quality, performance, or any other product attributes represented to potential customers and Backers. We have minimized this risk by ensuring that we have real working prototypes in hand that prove out our concepts, and real samples of components and materials from the actual suppliers, before sharing our products with the Kickstarter Community. In addition, our ongoing continuous-improvement process ensures that every bit of feedback we get, both positive and negative, gets reviewed, discussed, and appropriately incorporated into our products. We will redesign parts, throw away materials and product, and remake products as many times as is necessary in order to ensure that the products our customers and Backers receive are great.
Supply Chain: Supply chain risk refers to not being able to source the raw materials and labor necessary to produce products. Supply chain risk is real for every company that produces something. We address this risk in several ways. First, we source as much as we can domestically from small privately-owned businesses. These are small companies run by real people with whom we have developed close personal relationships. These aren’t the kinds of businesses that just lock their doors, shutter their windows, and disappear overnight. In addition, we are continuously talking to new suppliers to make sure we are getting the best value, and that we have alternatives in case one of our existing suppliers fails to deliver. Finally, we intentionally design our products using very simple components. Nearly all of our raw materials (with the exception of our fabric, RFID blocking material, and locks) are standard industrial materials capable of being spec’d out and sourced from numerous suppliers. To even further minimize this risk to our Kickstarter Backers, we have invested our own money and taken on personal debt to purchase all the materials and components for our first production run. This ensures you that if you back our campaign, you WILL get your product in a timely fashion. We believe in our product and are all-in. We know you will love it too.
Marketplace: It’s possible that nobody will like our products. Frequently, great products are created to solve problems that nobody really cares about. We’ve also seen products that don’t solve the real problems they were created to solve. Our products are born out of real need, and they work. They make lives better, and do it in a better way than anything else available. We do everything within our control to produce the absolute best highest-quality products we can – from design and prototyping, through real-life testing, to production. We skimp on nothing. We believe that we have done everything we can to give you the kind of products you will value, use regularly, and be proud to own.
Litigation: This is the nightmare and back-of-the-mind fear of every business owner. Litigation can come from anywhere, and it can be crippling to a business both financially and in terms of time and resource demands. We have done everything we can to minimize this. We have a patent filed on our design. We have researched existing patents extensively to make sure that we’re not infringing on someone else’s work. We have permission from Henkel Corporation (the large multi-national corporation that owns the LOCTITE brand) to use the LOCTOTE name. We have trademarks filed, domain names purchased, trade names filed, and exclusive license agreements signed. We pay our bills, pay our taxes, don’t make claims and promises we cannot keep, eat our vegetables, and are kind to children and small animals. We have done everything ethical and prudent to ensure that the litigation boogeyman stays away from us.
Force Majeure: Force Majeure is a legal term that refers to extraordinary events or circumstances beyond our control such as a war, strike, riot, crime, terrorism, or acts of God (e.g. hurricane, flooding, earthquake, volcanic eruption, etc.). We believe that we have done all that we can to minimize this risk. We live and operate in Columbus, Ohio. Not being near a coastline or a major city, we are unlikely to be a major target in war or terrorism. Our weather is not extreme, and we have little to no seismic or volcanic activity. Crime is low and political and social unrest is minimal here. It’s actually quite boring. In the extremely unlikely occurrence of a Force Majeure event, we promise that we, or our surviving loved ones, will refund 100% of our Backers’ money if we cannot deliver on our commitments.
Unforeseen: Unforeseen risks and challenges are, by definition, infinite. In business, as in life, stuff happens and you need to be prepared to deal with it. We have a world-class management team with decades of experience, and a proven track record of success. We have, and will continue to, work through any and all challenges that come our way in order to uphold our commitments to ourselves and our Backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
