Thanks guys for letting me know they are arriving, and glad you like them! :)

Vincent you're right - and then, there are stickers! All you see on the envelope is what I put on, post office just scan the barcode. And there are forms to fill for every batch. I still believe this is the best way to post them, you surely didn't want me to use DHL or UPS - especially if you live in Canada ;)

My Gecho just arrive (Montreal Canada). Given that the wrapping is obviously done by hand, and that there were 528 backers, how much of a chore was that for Mario...

What to my surprise at my front door all the way from Ireland, my Gecho! Really nice build, the etching on the box looks great. I spent some time messing with it, sounding good. Nice work building this, I am happy with the end results.

      Hi Mario,

Glad to hear it's all gone well. Thanks for my box & pouch. I've now spent half a day just messing with it, watching the YouTube vids and reading a little about how to code it (I was a C/C++ dev many years ago). Looking forward to trying that one day. Congrats again. Martin

Yes you're correct. This was explained in a direct message I sent to everyone in your tier via KS. The excerpt:

"...description for your reward might be confusing regarding of how much DIY effort is required to finish it ... [we] added dividing plate and sliding door at the bottom. This complicates things with your reward tier as it is not requiring to do any soldering but battery holder is located in a separate compartment. ... The description is still valid in this regard (as you won't need to solder anything... I know that people mostly enjoy doing this, and even if you are a DIY beginner, it's about a 30 minute job"

You did not get this message? Unfortunately, after the first person backs a tier, it is not allowed to edit description any more. The boxes evolved during the campaing so a workaround in form of wire connectors looked like a best compromise to make this reward level possible without need for soldering.

Hi Martin, indeed you were the first and I'm happy you stayed till the end (unlike few guys after you). I've included a small bonus in your packet ;) Well I started sending out the fully finished ones only recently, wanted to deal with DIY kits first, because they are quicker and also because they mean feedback about possible ways to mount them, which proved useful. Believe or not, shipping to UK is surprisingly slower and dearer than to USA, but it should not take more than a week max. Cheers!

Received mine in Thailand this afternoon. Built quality and design is top notch. Not disappointed at all. Got it to work eventually but must admit that I am still a little fuzzy about how to unleash the Gecho's full potential.

Do hope that Mario will make more video tutorials to help clueless backers like me. I am using a neodymium magnet and do not really know how to use it to make haunting sounds.

All the same, I am very excited so far with the music and sounds which the Gecho makes.

Well done!! Overall, am a happy camper.

Hi Darren, thank you for your comments! :)

      1) Yes, bubble padded envelopes and bubble wrap proved to be insufficient on their own (doesn't protect corners well), so in addition, recycling all material at hand. Ran out of pizza cardboard (how much pizza can you eat anyway).

      2) Thank you! It was a lot of work (and a few snapped spitstickers).

      3) Well, every box turns out different... Looks like even the highest tier offers some DIY opportunity. Feel free to fix/rework/extend/modify/hack anything you are not entirely happy with, all without worrying about voiding your warranty, isn't that great? :)

      4) Fantastic!

      5) If you figure out what this thing actually does, please let me know - I have few working theories but haven't settled on one yet ;)

Hi Peter, happy to hear you are enjoying it! It's really so much more fun when two people listen and influence it at the same time. Don't forget to try button #3 to get into other rhythms, the default one was the first implemented, but some others create more complex structures.

Backer #111 in the States. Got my preassembled unit this past Tuesday. A few comments

      1) was wrapped in plastic wrap and placed in a Sumptuous Strawberry Crisp cereal box! A first for me, but it was not damaged.

      2) really like the design engraved on the box lid

      3) the box is functional enough, but the applied stain is a bit uneven, especially on the bottom lid

      4) Stress tested at work the past few days and left it on for about 6 hours each day. Just let it pickup on my ambient computer typing noises etc. No issues at all that I can tell

Now to finally figure out what this thing actually does :)

Just came home from b'ham to find gecho and bag at my door. Two hours later of exploring that subtly extended sound time with my wife - scratching, barking, singing, giggling, tapping ..., along that wonderful base sound/rythm: thank you for that.

And also: It looks good, feels good, and wraps just nicely in its black "velvet" bag;)

      Hi Maarten,

Sorry, haven't managed to send your one yet. Just counted some numbers, 60% of all rewards have been shipped so far, it goes slow as there are forms to be filled for each batch of tracked/express post - and unfortunately those are not something that can be printed on. With doubling the goal and rewards to ship, all these time-consuming operations doubled as well...

So, thank you all for your patience - we're working on it! :)

That's great guys, glad to hear they are arriving in USA - no probs with customs? The FCC cert was surely worth arranging.

@Chad, it makes sense to move this discussion to forums indeed, so it's at one place - . But just explaining quickly here too: I was using this kind of foam, not sure if it is polyurethane though. It came here as wrapping material, and is about 2mm thick. I think 1.5mm would do a good job as well.

      http://gechologic.com/upload/hardware/gecho_mounting_tape_and_foam.jpg

(and this double-sided tape works well for attaching battery holders)

I don't the foam it under entire board, rather cut two 1x1.5cm pieces and place them under screws, and a third one (cca 0.7x2cm) under first two rows of LEDs. Elements and THT pins will keep the foam in place. The goal is not to insulate anything but rather to keep board evenly positioned as battery wires may lift it up a bit at that end. However if you can solder the wiring really flat, no foam is necessary - I mounted few boxes that way.

More important thing is to make sure the board is not bent due to uneven pressure from screws - never tighten them fully.

MID is SMD but really not that hard to do - let's further discuss that on the forum if you are interested :)

Got mine today. Sounds great. Already a lot of fun and I haven't done anything but plug in USB power and headphones. As far as mounting the PCB in the box though: in your post at: http://www.gechologic.com/make-your-own-box it talks about a "thin layer of polyurethane foam." It seems to me that would be a great thing to put between the wood and PCB - keep it snug and safe, right?. I don't have any foam and am wondering if you have suggestions where to get some or what exactly to look for.

I'm looking forward to work on finishing the box (which is already quite nice in the bare wood).

I'd like to try to install the MIDI hardware but I'm a little worried about my SMD soldering skills. I'm sure this Gecho's going to give me plenty to work on for a few months. By that time I imagine we'll get to start fiddling with the firmware too!

Let me know if I should be taking any of this to your forum!
