So this is it. Dustin Louis Blank is making his debut album. After all his travels, all the venues and all the couches he's had the pleasure to crash on, the time has arrived. The time has come to distill his experience into a complete musical creation. We hope you enjoy watching the featured videos. We believe these really capture the essence of what Dustin is all about.
His sound is a mixture consisting of the style, (to name a few), of Leonard Cohen, the modern instrumentation of Beck, and the timeless folk influence of Bob Dylan. Dustin's songs mean deep things to him personally and they stir within the listener an appreciation for life and simple truths. These songs make you think. They can make you cry within. His writing runs deep. From "hook" to chorus, his songs carry weight.
His first recordings have been featured in various independent films such as the 2011 IMPA "Best Picture" Award winner Man and Woman, (featured below) as well as Wish You Were Here - a full length feature film scheduled for release in Los Angeles in Spring 2013.
And there are more creative projects asking for new pieces from him, such as his live performance during a fashion show at Chef's Table restaurant in Iowa City shown here:
Dustin is currently laying down some of the fundamental tracks and we eagerly look forward to finishing things up. To do so will require hiring talented musicians, recording studios, and engineers - not to mention there is the expense of Mastering and duplication. This is why we are reaching out for your involvement. To do this right is going to take time and attention to detail. It's going to take some travel and some negotiations. With your support, not only will this project truly take flight, you will receive first and foremost, the finished result.
Please take a moment to look through our list of rewards and see which ones interest you the most.
As with all Kickstarter campaigns, this is an "all or nothing" push so every little bit gets us one step closer. With this in mind please let your friends and colleagues know about our hopes to make this album a reality. Thank you so much for visiting our project and we truly appreciate your participation.
Risks and challenges
All creative projects have potential hang ups. We foresee ours to be very minimal and simple to work around. The primary obstacle to an album's completion, (completing on time and under budget), generally has to do with scheduling.
In our planning stage we have identified several studios we can hire to work from, several engineers we can call on and a large pool of talented musicians that could be available on short notice. By knowing these things up front, we have a back up plan that can be implemented if needed.
Dustin has been booking his own shows and scheduling back-up musicians for performances since the beginning. He knows how to deal with the pressures that every touring artist lives through and still comes out on top.
Dustin has joined up with Producer Jonathan Natera at Flight Audio in order to make sure this project releases without a hitch. Dustin and Jonathan have worked together for years on multiple creative projects and they understand each other very well. This is essential with a project of this scope. Ever the businessman, Jonathan has operated a recording studio of his own for years, has worked on countless albums and understands the challenges of creating a project of this magnitude - especially one that will involve so many different musicians.
Dustin and Jonathan, have built up a large network of talented, motivated professionals in the areas of music production, engineering, mastering, promotion, graphic and visual arts, film making, web design, and photography. We plan on hiring these top notch individuals at each stage of production as needed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
