Everyday, millions of homes around the world suffer through the cruel realities of life without home automation. At Engimusing we are determined to make a difference. Donate today, receive a Hero Kit, and start the journey of ease, comfort, and savings for you and your home.

Engimusing modules are designed for the DIY person and make it easy to connect the things in your home to the Internet so you can monitor and control them from anywhere.

Garage Controller

You can fully automate your garage and control it with your phone, tablet, or computer from anywhere you have Internet access. When you are out of town for the weekend you can check to see that the doors and windows are closed, open the door for a neighbor, be alerted if the door opens when it shouldn't.

Intelligent Thermostat

You can build an energy saving thermostat that will let you control your temperature from anywhere. Forget to turn down the heat when you leave for a trip. No problem, do it from wherever you are. Even better you can program the system so it knows what to do when you aren't there. Save energy and worries.

Water

One of the highest causes of home insurance claims is water leaks. Water is also a significant expense and there are shortages in some areas. With Engimusing Modules you can sense leaks and do something before they cause expensive damage. You can monitor and detect problems with clothes washers, dish washers, toilets, sprinkler systems, and pipes allowing you to save water and avoid costly disasters.

Security

We have sensors for you to monitor the security of your home. There are Engimusing Modules to monitor doors, windows, mailboxes, doorbells, gates, and many other things.

Environmental Sensors

There are a lot of environmental factors in and around your home. We have sensors to monitor carbon monoxide and other gases, humidity, barometric pressure, temperature, light, altitude, color, magnetism, proximity, electrical current, motion, and more. Using environmental sensors we can make our homes safer, save resources, and increase comfort and convenience.

Controls

There are also Engimusing Modules that can be used to control appliances, lights, and machines.

You won't have to wait for us to develop an App since our modules work with openHAB. It is an OPEN App and it already exists and works with Engimusing modules as well as many other home automation products. After all nobody likes to be locked in. Want to try it? Go to openHAB Demo or install the App on your iOS or Android device and try the demo there.

openHAB uses a simple web server that acts as a gateway to let you interact with your system using your smart phone or a web browser.

There are many options to use for your openHAB server. Pretty much any computer will do as it works with Windows, OSX, or Linux.

The computer will need to stay on when you are using the openHAB system - which probably means all the time.

Build your own server:

You can use your desktop computer as an openHAB Server and it will not interfere with your normal usage. Any old computer or laptop will probably work fine, especially if you install Linux on it. You can also use a Raspberry Pi, Beaglebone, or many other single board computers.

Pre-configured openHAB Server:

For an out of the box solution we offer a pre-configured system that will require very little setup.

 Features:

  • Single board computer
  • 4GB Flash
  • Power Supply (5V/2A)
  • WIFI
  • RS232 Port
  • openHAB preinstalled
  • Linux operating system
  • Web browser based configuration
  • Small size 3.5" x 2.3" x 1.1" (90mm x 59mm x 28mm)

Small Modules

Engimusing modules are small. As you add more and more home automation products your home will look cluttered no matter how beautiful each unit is. Generally hiding a module under a desk or behind a picture will look better than the most well designed unit in the open. Small modules make this easier.

Easy To Use - They Snap Together

Engimusing Modules are easy to use as everything snaps together. I/O modules snap on to processor modules. Modules can easily be cabled together and the connectors snap into the modules. The wires snap into the connectors too. There is no soldering required.

Two Formats - Stand Alone & DF11-10 I/O

We have two formats for our modules. The first are stand alone sensors and control modules which are connected by wires as shown below. These are great if you need a single module in a location.

Stand Alone Modules
Stand Alone Modules

The second format is the DF11-10 I/O format. When you need more than one module in a location you can snap multiple modules to a base board (usually a microcontroller module).

This short video shows how easy it is to wire a system.

Low Power

Low power consumption electronics are essential to the Internet of Things (IoT) and Home Automation. Engimusing Modules have been designed with low power consumption as a prime design goal. We use Silicon Labs Gecko Energy Friendly Microcontrollers.

Maker and DIY Friendly

Engimusing Modules are great for Makers, Hobbyists, and those that like to Do it Yourself. All of our hardware and software is open. Our modules can be programmed using the Arduino IDE. We have created libraries and examples for use with the Arduino IDE that make it easy for you to get your home automation project up and running. We design our modules to be intelligent so they are easy to use.

  • We have our own pick and place machine, reflow oven, and the other equipment we need to build Engimusing Modules.
  • We have decades of experience building circuit boards and have built far more complex ones than these.
  • We do not depend on contract manufacturers either down the street or across the ocean.
  • You will get your Hero Kits faster and with less hassle.

Once you decide what you want to automate you need to plan how the modules will connect together. All of the modules in your system need to have a communication path to your openHAB server. We call this communication path the Server Link.

Server Links can be done with either wires or WIFI. Many times a combination of both makes sense. If you can connect an Engimusing Module to your server with a cable it will generally make sense to do so. If running the wire is inconvenient you can use the WIFI version of a module to connect into your homes WIFI.

The type of Server Link makes no difference to being able to use the system with your phone or other device. It is simply how you hook things together.

If you use WIFI you will need a way to power the modules. This can be done with a wall adapter or even batteries in some cases. Examples of various systems and details on the type of wire to use can be found here.

We have designed and prototyped more than 50 products before launching this Kickstarter. We have done this so we would have a critical mass of products allowing you to put together many projects. This makes it impossible to have a reasonable number of rewards that will meet the needs of everyone. With this menu you can select the products you need to do the projects you want.

If you have a specific project in mind and need help deciding which products to select ask us in the comments and we will try to help you.

For each product in the list there are two prices. The prices in GREEN are Early Bird prices and are 35% below the retail prices you will see in our store for after launch. The prices in BLACK are 20% off our store prices.

These items are useful to connect and debug products. Detailed descriptions: http://emus.us/breadboard-aids-connectors-wiring.

Risks and challenges

All of the offered Hero Kits have been designed, prototyped, and tested so there is no development risk that we know of. There is always the risk that we will not be able to purchase components within the lead time we need. We do not expect problems since the parts we use are generally off-the-shelf. Since we don't know how many kits will be chosen we can not predict when we will have all the kits shipped. What we can say is that we will start shipping them within 30 days after we receive the Kickstarter funds.
