About

Ovation..........A Board Game.
Ovation..........A Board Game.

Ovation is such a simple game you might wonder why it doesn't exist already. It involves reading quotes from famous films, songs etc and guessing the title. The killer aspect of the game is the progressive quotation, you start off with an obscure line for the most points and can move on to easier quotes. Eventually it becomes obvious and you wonder why you didn't get it in the first place, but you're hungry for more. You can perform the title if you are confident enough and this will help your team.

This is what the game cards look like;

The cards shown are just hypotheticals as we will have to secure licensing for each quote and may be limited to certain licensees such as Sony, EMI etc.

Once you get going it's difficult to stop and it is a lot of fun reliving moments from classic films, songs and tv shows. Essentially it is something that people love to do already, made into a game.

We have played it with people and lent it out and we always get the same reaction, they really love it. The video is of random people reading progressive quotations, you can see how much they are enjoying it, just imagine it on the table after a good meal with a couple of friends.

Even when the game finishes people just carry on picking up the cards, reading the quotes and trying to guess the titles.

We would have it boxed up and ready to go were it not for the licensing issue. In order to use material from well known works the quotes must be licensed and this is what costs the money.

We have approached record labels and agencies who deal with licensing and they like the project and are happy to run with it but they need to know that this project will shift units in large numbers so as to justify the time required in the licensing and to avoid devaluing their franchises.

Kickstarter is therefore the perfect place for this project, if the funding target is reached then we have a demonstrable case for sales volumes and hence marketing, and the world will have Ovation!

So just sign up for Ovation, there is nothing to lose, and we believe that you will be an exclusive part of something new and exciting. The more people who sign up, the more likely it is to succeed.

Risks and challenges

Licensing is complicated by the variety of license holders involved in garnering material for the game but there are a small number of agencies which deal with the majority of the titles available. We have approached agencies and found them to be amenable to the concept. An informed estimate of the costs of resolving licensing issues would be £20,000. Both partners at Ovation are solicitors and therefore competent to deal with licensing and negotiation at a professional level.

Manufacturing Ovation on time and within budget will be a challenge but there is nothing unusual about the construction of the game and there is sufficient competition in the market to ensure a good deal can be struck. Our aim is for Ovation to be produced in a sustainable way. Our research concludes that Ovation could be produced at less than £10 per unit for the first 1600 copies.

As the licensing will have to be concluded before we can move forward there will be no financial outlay until we are sure that the project can be completed.

Ovation has already been designed and a prototype produced. We have tested it with enough people to be sure that people will love it, and that everyone with a copy of the game will feel priveleged to own it and excited to share it with their friends.

The real challenge is bringing the game to people's attention and ensuring that they understand how good it is, we are relying on Kickstarter!
