I love working with wood. I have found it as a great outlet to stress and as a way to express my imagination. I want to share this love with others not only by sharing my products, but by also teaching others to love this trade. If we raise enough money, my wife and I will be going to South Africa to volunteer at a wood shop there that teaches troubled teens to learn a trade to support themselves and their families in a time of economic crisis. The company is called Busetsa Wood. They also work with a children's home called Butterfly, where we would also spend our time and services. We are blessed to live in a land with relative economic stability, but there are a lot of people who do not share those blessings. It is our duty to help out in any way that we can.
The money received will also go to purchasing a small CNC machine to bring better products to YOU. You are helping this original idea become a reality, so thank you!
Cam's Designs started before it was formally organized - with a pocket knife, ¼” chisel and an idea – all I had room to pack while relocating frequently around Southern California. I arrived in Orange County shortly after high school, leaving family and friends behind.
Away from the comfort of home and immersed in a work environment of unrelenting pressure seven days a week, I needed a release. I found that release while carving a watch from a block of wood. Through trial and error I completed several awesome watches. The watches eventually led to wooden ties and other products. Friends and acquaintances were impressed and through word of mouth alone, demand kept increasing.
Inspiration flows when I am doing what I love and observing my surrounding. Inspiration also flows when I am doing something I don’t love and seeking an escape. Focus groups don’t attract me; however, I do get ideas and input from others.
Though Cam's Designs started with just my idea, chisel, and me, it is expanding quickly. I am excited to have my wife, Collette, and the whole Kickstarter family to help get this product launched!
Riesgos y desafíos
The biggest risk with our campaign is the time that it takes to make a tie. All of our ties are hand made. All of our past pieces have been hand carved and take many hours to make. If we continue to do it this way, our products may take a very long time to get fulfilled and sent out to our backers. To help this big time block we are using the money we make from Kickstarter to purchase a small carving machine that will help produce the ties. This will cut production time from 15 hours for the Paisley Tie to about 15 minutes. This is a huge difference which creates a better product much faster, resulting in you getting your product faster.Más información sobre el concepto de responsabilidad en Kickstarter
