This is your opportunity to sow into God's kingdom through sowing into God's people!
Have you ever felt overwhelmed with the stress in your life? Been discouraged with one negative situation after another?
Overcomer Magazine is your source of encouragement to stand strong in faith.
Think of this digital magazine as a cross between Guideposts and True Story. It features first-person, inspirational stories of believers who put their faith into action and shows you how to apply God's Word to rise above tough life situations.
Some stories will shock you. Some will make you laugh and even cry. But all of them will leave you with one powerful thought:
"If they overcame, so can I."
Here is a brief audio excerpt from the lead testimony that will be featured in our first issue. Aisha Whisonant is a soldier in the U.S. Army Reserves and a single mother. When you read and hear her testimony in the magazine, you will be amazed at her courage and faith in the midst of trials:
Published quarterly, the digital magazine will be developed for the Apple iPad Newsstand, with future plans for editions for Kindle tablets.
We need you as an "angel investor" to sow into God's kingdom. According to Kickstarter guidelines, we must reach our target goal or the project will go unfunded. That means we won't have the funds to proceed and Overcomer will not be able to reach the millions of believers who need the encouragement to hold on, whether they are facing financial challenges, relationship issues, or a health crisis.
Here is your opportunity to sow into the Kingdom. Be part of the magazine and help spread the good news. The good news is that bad news is not the whole story!
God gave me (Kim) the idea for Overcomer Magazine two months ago during my bible study time. I was thinking about an email I received from a lady via my takebackyourtemple.com Christian weight loss website. She was discouraged by her repeated attempts to lose weight and considered giving up.
As I thought about her situation, I remembered all of the times I thought about quitting during my own 85-pound weight loss journey. And yet, after I suffered a crushing chest pain at aged 38, I made up my mind that I wasn't going to ever give up fighting for my health. It was then that my Overcomer attitude was born.
It is the same attitude that everyone who is determined to finish well in this life needs to succeed!
As I meditated on the word 'Overcomer,' I envisioned a quarterly digital magazine with powerful testimonies that others could read, listen to, or view and gain strength and inspiration to carry on. In addition, I saw Overcomer magazine with the following sections:
* Spiritual Warfare bible study series
* Encouragement for Today devotional series
* Helpers to One Another: Readers giving biblical answers to your faith questions
* Right Now Prayers and prayer requests
* Inspirational sayings (faith, forgiveness, marriage, parenting, etc.)
* Multimedia inspirational resources, such as video interviews and music
Overcomer Magazine will be for everyone who is determined to live victoriously and obtain God's best for them. Our audience includes:
* New believers: Salvation is just the beginning! The magazine will show new believers in Christ living examples of others who are putting "feet to their faith" and have an authentic, fruitful relationship with God.
* Seasoned believers: You've been walking with God for a while but sometimes think "Is this all there is?" The stories in the magazine will revive your passion for the Lord and help you stay in the center of His will, no matter the circumstances.
* Seekers: You haven't yet accepted Jesus as your Savior, but are curious as to what this Christian thing is all about. Through the personal stories, you'll see that Christianity is not about religion, but about a dynamic, living relationship with the One who created you and loves you best.
The budget will be used for all production and technical support costs for publishing the digital magazine to the Apple iPad Newsstand for the first year, with plans to publish editions for Kindle tablets beginning in the 3rd quarter of 2014 as we exceed our goal. Funds will be used for equipment, acquiring digital assets for use in the magazine, and for compensating our talented designers and programmers.
Because this magazine will be in digital format, the goal is to make it interactive, including streaming and video into it.
So in addition to reading inspirational stories and interviews, you'll be able to see and hear about faith in action, making this a truly immersive experience.
Whenever you need a faith booster, Overcomer magazine will be there to motivate you to keep moving forward.
The following are contributing writers to Overcomer magazine:
Kimberly Taylor is the Editor-in-Chief of Overcomer Magazine. She is a contributing writer to Charisma Magazine and the YouVersion bible app. She is also the author of popular books The Weight Loss Scriptures and The Anxiety Relief Scriptures.
Kim once suffered from emotional eating, but is an overcomer through God's strength and power. Her weight loss success story has been featured on CBN's The 700 Club, in Prevention Magazine, and Essence Magazine.
Kim exhorts God's people to become good stewards of the resources He gives them. "I am passionate about empowering others to adopt healthy lifestyles to fulfill their God-given purpose," she says. "I want non-believers to see financial, spiritual, mental, and physical wholeness in us. Then when they ask what we are doing differently, we are ready to tell them about Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith."
Mary Law is the creator of the anointed 'Armor of God' spiritual warfare series that will be a featured column in the magazine. She is a wife, mother of 4, and Nana of 11 grandchildren. A believer since the age of 13, Mary has found Jesus to be her All in All. He has helped her deal with sexual (and other forms of) abuse, and has gently led her on a journey of spiritual and emotional and physical renewal. Hiding behind pounds of pain, for decades, Mary is learning what it means to shed the weight as she sheds the past. Her prayer is that the Lord will use her to encourage others to look to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of their faith, knowing that, through Him, we are more than conquerors.
Reverend Leisa Wilkins is the founder of the Encouragement in the Word Ministry, which is dedicated to building people up and helping them to walk in their God-ordained purpose. On her Facebook page, believers can post prayer requests, share praise reports, and encouraging words, based on the Word of God, to strengthen themselves and others. She also serves as an associate minister and a member at Kainos Community Church, in Katy, Texas.
Rev. Leisa is also a published author of the book Encouragement in the Word Ministry Devotional, which is a fasting and prayer devotional that provides readers with the key to unlocking their God-given potential and walking in their destiny.
Rev. Leisa's articles in the magazine emphasize the truth that God’s Word, combined with prayer, and fasting, makes tremendous power available. God’s Word is dynamic in its working in our lives and in the lives of those in our sphere of influence. It's a fixed fight, we win!
We wanted to publish for the iPad first since most people who own a tablet are using that format (according to our research, 62% of users). However, our dream is to publish for Kindle tablets and eventually Android tablets as well (another 20% of users). We saw the wisdom in focusing on getting our iPad issue solid and then expanding to the Kindle edition in 3rd quarter 2014 as we exceed our goal.
In addition, we'd like this effort to be the start of something BIG! A dream goal is to greatly exceed our funding goal, so we can use funds to create special editions of Overcomer, each with a particular focus such as healing testimonies, relationship restoration, or financial breakthrough stories. We'd love to be able to bless our backers with these special digital editions free as thanks for their generous support.
Finally, there are plans to publish two new books in 2014: Preparing for a Godly Marriage and Our God is Awesome (and Other Words that Describe God's Character in the Bible). Again, depending on how much the goal is exceeded, we'd also love to provide a complementary PDF copy of these 2 books to our backers.
As mentioned before, we must reach our target goal or the project will go unfunded according to Kickstarter guidelines. That means we won't have the funds to proceed and Overcomer will not be able to reach the millions of believers who need the encouragement to hold on, whether they are facing financial challenges, relationship issues, or a health crisis.
Many prayers have been offered for this project (and we still need prayer and your financial support, so keep them coming). We are standing in faith that the funding goal will be met and exceeded. As a minister once said, "If it's God's will, it's God's bill." So the success of this project is up to Him through you.

Risks and challenges
Detailed research has been done into the costs of magazine development for tablets to ensure that a realistic budget and development timeline have been set. And yet, from past experience in project management, we have learned that unforeseen technical issues or challenges with collaborators can occur.
Based on pre-project planning, we don't believe that there will be a problem delivering the project on-time and on budget.
The only other potential risk is if I (Kim) become physically unable to work on the magazine and no one else is available to continue the project.
To reduce this risk, we will team with other partners who have the technical expertise to continue producing the magazine according to high standards.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
