As an Introvert/INFJ personality type with a design background I'm often trying to think of ways to combine the two into a project that would be of interest to fellow Introverts and INFJs. And in such a way that it helps highlight the diverse nature of personality type, promoting acceptance of the differences between them all. Along came the idea of developing a range of 'Do Not Disturb' door hanging signs which I thought would be an entertaining and fun approach to tackling the issue. And the #WeAreDisturbed idea was born.
Why I am using Kickstarter:
There are a couple of reasons, one is to raise funds for printing the 'Do Not Disturb' signs and to develop an ecommerce website to sell/promote them, and second is to build awareness and help gauge which signs seem to be the most popular (as dictated by the reward choices). That way I have a better idea of which options to print and which options to remove completely. So one of the benefits of pledging is that contributors will be certain of getting the one sign they want as it may not make the final cut for the online store.
The £750 pledged will be used to to print/produce the first batch of 'Do Not Disturb' signs for the rewards and starting stock. And the remainder of the funds will be used to develop the current wearedisturbed website further by adding the required ecommerce functionality. This will give me the tools to establish the brand and enable me to produce more signs. I will also be looking into creating other Introvert/INFJ themed products such as bookmarks, playing cards (romance and intimacy cards), greetings cards, beer mats (or perhaps tea/coffee coasters) and the like.
In time I would also like expand the range to cater for different personality types (Extroverts and other Jungian types), different genders, children, and even be able to produce one-off custom versions at competitive prices. As well as alternative shapes (die-cuts) and colours.
An INFJ/Introvert Marketplace?
There will also the opportunity to develop the site into somewhat of a marketplace for Introvert and/or INFJ themed products. So if fellow INFJs or introverts have their own product or service, then they could be sold through wearedisturbed.co.uk on a commission or agreed fee basis.
Alternatively (or perhaps in addition to direct sales) the website could be used to advertise products/services through PR articles or adverts that link to the relevant product or service on an external web page.
How I intend to meet the target:
I will be hoping to draw on the support of some of the 6.9k followers of my INFJ themed Facebook Page and personal blog site as well as the support of fellow INFJ/Introvert friends to help and share the project to their friends and online groups. I've also set up a mailing list in order to build up a following of those interested in the signs prior to the Kickstarter launch, which currently stands at 130+ subscribers.
I'm also hoping to capture the imagination of fellow INFJs and introverts in using social media to promote the Do Not Disturb signs - i.e. sharing photos of the signs in places all over the world... capturing the essence of the well known introvert meme "Introverts unite, separately, in your homes".
Each of the signs are 276mm x 106mm with different designs on front and back. They will be printed onto heavy 350gsm Pacesetter silk art board, die-cut and finished with a matt laminate coating to both sides. For details of all 32 designs to choose from (for the rewards), visit www.wearedisturbed.co.uk
We're also a supporter of https://kickingitforward.org and pledge to put 5% of project profits back into other Kickstarter projects should we achieve our funding goal.
Risks and challenges
The risks are minimal as it centres around three core aspects - design, print and web design. As a graphic designer with almost 20 years of industry expertise (mainly with print) the first two are under control having already produced the design/artwork and with access to several reliable print suppliers - I have already had a few samples printed of the signs and A2 posters. With regards to the website design I have access to a reliable and trustworthy local developer who creates bespoke sites and will therefore be able to integrate the necessary ecommerce functionality and also add new features as the project develops.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
