Chad Raines and Michael McQuilken are making a full-length album before beginning a year-long tour with Amanda Palmer (of the Dresden Dolls) in the summer of 2012. Amanda will also provide guest vocals on their album.
WHAT WILL IT SOUND LIKE???!!! Good question. We have agreed to allow this music to be discovered over a period of time devoted to cutting loose and playing together without any criteria other than, 1, the music must make us dance and move wildly about the room, 2, the music must be entirely fun to play, and 3, the music must be full to the brim with melody and harmonic singing. Chad is known for making endlessly danceable soul music, sure to keep every party across the globe simultaneously aflame. Michael makes narratively driven, highly rhythmic, organic and bottom-heavy rock music (all of the music in the above video was written and performed by Chad and/or Michael -- please also check out their musical pasts via the links below). This new material will capitalize on both of their strengths, and yield up something greater than the sum of its parts. The duo will begin writing for this new record in mid-november. This is all we know for now.
WHAT WILL THE ALBUM BE ABOUT?? Another good question that is difficult to answer. All that we can say for now is this: at this moment in history, the world is full of separatism and conflict. We need artwork that makes us feel whole. We need songs that bring us together. We need to focus on our common experience. And we need to dance together.
WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING? Studio fee (highly reduced): $1,050. Mastering: $800. Artwork/Duplication/Packaging: $2,000. Transportation to and from upstate NY (where Art Farm is located): $300. Food budget while in session: $500. Instrument repair/maintenance: $200. Misc/unexpected expense fund: $150.
WHY NOW? Chad and Michael are recent graduates of Yale university where they met and discovered a musical kinship; this record is a chance to focus a variety of musical experiments that they did while in graduate school, and Amanda's offer to bring them on tour as her backing band and opening act has created a clearly defined destination for this music to be shared. Art Farm recording studios ( www.artfarmrecording.com ) has generously offered studio time at a discounted rate in December, 2011. The modest studio fees, post-production, mastering, and duplication costs will be funded, hopefully, through this Kickstarter campaign.
This album is in it's first stages of development, however~~~>
