All New LTD rewards
We have so many wonderful backers who think this product has some merit. So we thought some of you might want an extra special Flybridge to commemorate being one of the first who came on board with Flybridge.
And so we are now pleased to announce two special Limited Edition rewards, each limited to 10 only - an amazing high gloss reflective Chrome look metalized Flybridge and our El Supremo, Gold look metalized Flybridge adapter. Both give you that extra piece of Bling and will come specially packaged in a limited Gift box, signed and numbered by the Creator with a personal hand written card.
investing in loads of high quality audio and charging devices equipped
with the standard 30-pin dock over the last 10 years, we find they are
suddenly obsolete with the release of Apple's new Lighting connector
devices. What’s more, Apple have still yet to release a true Lightning
The Lightning connector is fantastic, small and reversible, another good reason to upgrade to the new iPhone 5. But what about all of those high quality audio devices you bought for the home, the office even the car. Nothing has changed, they still sound great and charge your phone.
So how do we set things right. Well Apple have provided part of the solution, their Lightning to 30-pin connector works great, allows for charging and audio on pretty much all 30-pin docks. But it doesn't give any support to your device and so puts heaps of strain in the 30-pin dock and Lighting connector. We all know how fragile that 30-pin connector can be.
The solution - Flybridge, the 30-pin to Lightning dock adapter.
Made from strong ABS-PMMA plastic, Flybridge reassuringly snaps into any standard 30-pin Universal dock. You then slide in your Apple purchased 30-pin to Lightning dock adapter and you are flying. The large platform and raised bridge support accommodates almost all Lightning equipped Apple devices such as the:
iPod Touch 5th generation
iPod Nano 7th Generation
Apple 30-pin to Lightning connector can be purchased directly from Apple at the link below, you will need one for every Flybridge dock adapter you purchase.
We have tested compatibility with many leading brands such as Sony, Bose, Bang & Olufsen, JBL, Yamaha, Belkin and Logitech. What is clear is all standard 30-pin universal docks are compatible with our Flybridge and all devices charged and played music through the Apple connector.
We also need to add that as can be seen in the images and video, that the Flybridge also works with all Apple manufactured docks that use the Universal snap in inserts. So you can convert these 30pin docks to Lightning as well.
We have devoted a lot of time into creating something that integrates well with your devices and looks like it belongs. With the Flybridge and the Apple connector, you can convert your existing audio equipment or Apple docks and they will look like the were always a Lighting device. We didn't want to create something that looks like a patch job. Be the first to have a Lighting equipped HiFi ! Don't throw all your great looking gear away. Like everyone else, I wanted to get the new iPhone but have heaps of legacy equipment that I really like, so it was a tough decision to get the iPhone 5 and not use this gear. Well now with the Flybridge it looks good and I can use my iPhone 5 everywhere.

Here is what other people saying about Flybridge!
Prototyping and Testing
As you can see from our images and video here in the Kickstarter project, we have created a couple of high quality prototypes of Flybridge from CNC machined ABS plastic and then painted them up to look like the real thing. Our plan is to injection mold these parts, we have already worked with our Asian vendors on developing the mold strategy and packaging. Everything is ready to go, so that's why we need your help - to start the mold, get production happening and ship.
The angled back support bridge offers ample contact on even an item as large as the iPad Mini, the distance from the back of these devices and the connector point is easily accommodated in one dock adapter unit. We also made the platform wider to give better support to the larger iPad Mini.
No part of the Flybridge adapter extends beyond the extremities of the dock insert perimeter, just in case your dock equipped audio units have parts of their housings extending above the dock plane.
We have added PMMA to the ABS base polymer to provide that really high gloss finish that we all like in our products and will mold in black and white to start, which we figure matches most devices on the market. In the future, there is no reason why we can't manufacture in a range of great colors.
Based in Redwood City, California, I have 20 years experience as a professional Industrial Designer. I have a small product design studio called Luxxbox with an office in California and Australia. I have developed products for clients across the US and the world including the likes of Google, Wholefoods and Ridley Scott's Prometheus movie. I have a great deal of experience in developing products such as these and getting them to market.
The Flybridge adapter is in good hands as you can see from our prototypes.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The Flybridge is a relatively simple one piece plastic injection molded part. It has some complexity in the angles of the part and some sliding cores, but we have worked with our molding vendor and these issues do not present any problems. We have been quoted 35 days mold lead time and then we will need to undertake several rounds of off tool sample tests which should take no longer than a couple of weeks.
Product production and fulfillment shouldn't take any longer than 2 weeks following.
As with all projects of this nature there can be small delays, especially from vendor quoted times, however, we have successfully tested the design and prototypes so as long as the mold makers carefully adhere to tolerance, we should have no problem in making it and getting to market.
One of the key design details we researched was whether the Lightning connector enabled device would pull off before the Apple 30Pin-Lightning adapter will. The answer is that the 30pin male connector has those little barbs on the left and right that grab the female side of the connector. This creates more pull off tension than the Lightning connector and so any Lightning enabled device will release first, leaving the Apple 30Pin-Lightning adapter firmly seated in place.
The answer is some will work, but as with most of these dock inserts its unlikely all cases will work. There are thousands of cases available all over the world and we can not test each one. Apple's tolerances are pretty tight for the relationship between device and connector and we have tried to make Flybridge compatible with as many new Lightning equipped devices as possible. We have seen some cases work and because Lightning is reversible, many cases will work when the iPhone is mounted backwards, not ideal but it still charges and plays music fine.
I have been asked many times about pledging for more than one Flybridge product. Per the new Kickstarter rules, we can not set up a Reward for multiple items of the same thing. We want to support Kickstarter in what they do, they offer a great service to help everyone out. Kickstarter have advised us for anyone who is pledging looking for multiple units, for me to directly work that out with the individual backers, so please contact me we can work out something that accommodates your request.
Please do not post a comment on the project page regarding multi unit pledges. If you see a comment on the project page that remains unanswered its because I have contacted the person directly with a response.
Below is a quote from the Kickstarter rewards setup page.
"As of September 20, 2012, projects in the Hardware and Product Design categories are prohibited from offering multiple quantities of a single reward. Projects in these categories can only offer one reward per pledge, with the exception of rewards that truly function as a set (e.g., salt and pepper shakers or building blocks). Offering a reward as a single quantity AND a set is not permitted."
