Thank you so much for helping us, we hit our target sooner than expected!
However, there is never enough books and textbooks in library, there is never enough toys in children play room and we will surely be able to put to very good use every single penny! We can always buy more children story books, pencils and other library/school utilities!
Don't forget to join us on Facebook where you can see all the lovely donated books and our progress!
Because there are still people HUNGRY for books! We are giving children the opportunity to learn to read and improve their chances in the future. We want to support them and give them desirable reading material!
Can you picture a scene in which a child would enter a library with the same purpose as a restaurant? Striding confidently in and asking a waiter for menu. What is your best specialty? Can you recommend us anything? - Of course, honey. We have an old edition of Alice’s adventures in Wonderland. It used to belong to an old lady who gave it to us because it was of no use to her anymore. Or would you rather have served poetry, perhaps nursery rhymes? Or maybe something more advanced such as Harry Potter? Just pick up your favorites or try something new!
Crazy hitchhiker, a student, an optimist who wants to do something good and usefull during her next trip. I will spend one month traveling around Madagascar, eat their food, taking pictures of their nature and I think I can bring them our books. I have already met a local lady who offered me and my books a place to stay. Of course, I will leave eventually, but the books will stay.
Where and why?
Literacy rate in Madagascar is 65% with rank of 182 out of 194. That means that 35% of population cannot read. While most of the countries are improving, in the past decade the literacy rate in Madagascar has actually declined. Who else needs a new LIBRARY than Madagascar?
What are we doing and how?
We are collecting and buying unwanted and second-hand books in various places (Scotland, France and Reunion). So far we have managed to get over 350 books in English and French. The next step is to transfer the books from our collection points to Madagascar, join us in making this library a new future for those children!
Books should be read over and over again and not be sitting in the dust in your garage! We are buying and collecting those books, we will bring them with us on our travel adventure around Madagascar and give them away on places and to people where the books will be used and read over and over again.
We are raising money which will enable us to pay for the postage, buy books written in local language, buy some equipment and in general create a nice environment in the library.
Join us in making the new library a pleasant place, an oasis, for everyone whose hunger for reading and information has been an unaffordable luxury.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge to our project is maintaining it and keeps the project going. That's why we are happy to have a reliable local who wants to improve the literacy of her own country and is willing to continue with this project. We are also hoping for people to send their own packages with books to Madagascar on their own expanses to help and expand our collection.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
