About this project
My name is Lucio and I'm writing and illustrating a graphic novel about Williamsburg.
For the last 23 years, I’ve lived on Grand Street at a nexus between Caribbean, Italian, and Hasidic Jewish communities. I’ve watched the dramatic gentrification of the neighborhood with the cultural and economic clashes that came as a result.
The book will be a collection of short stories, including one about the Hasids vs.Hipsters; the Italians who settled here in the early 1900’s; the Caribbean immigrants in the south side of Williamsburg who called themselves “Los Sures”; Domino Sugar, once the greatest sugar refinery in the world, the worker’s struggle and how in the near future it will be turned into a glamorous mini neighborhood for the rich...and many more stories.
This will be the first graphic novel about the neighborhood, which now is one of the most well known worldwide. The experience captured throughout is a satirical perspective on a well-known tale for Williamsburg insiders and can act as a historical tour guide for visitors in the future.
This campaign will cover the production and shipping costs for the initial print run of the book, which will be softcover, black and white and around 240 pages. It will be printed in Iceland by a high-end printer that specializes in art books.
With your support and generosity I hope to complete this project by end of this year. Be sure to take a look at the rewards and please share this with your friends.
Thank you! Lucio

Risks and challenges
This is my first graphic novel, so it is very important that all the elements that comprise the book (art, storytelling, and production) meet the highest standards of excellence.
I have been a graphic designer for 25 years and have produced and delivered many projects of this kind. Zago.co, a design and branding company in New York, are my partners in this.
I have received estimates from a reliable printer in Iceland that prints quality art books.
10 stories are completed, so I am more than halfway done. It should take another 8 months to complete the rest, in that time I will be posting regular updates of my progress.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
