The Kuhl Ride bicycle seat is a completely new design for a bicycle seat. We fit the seat to you instead of you having to fit yourself to the seat, making the Kuhl Ride bicycle seat the most comfortable seat available.
What makes this the most comfortable bicycle seat on the
1. The Kuhl Ride bicycle seat is filled with air and
nothing is softer than riding on air.
2. The amount of air you have in the seat is completely
adjustable and you can change the amount of air while riding your bike.
3. The Kuhl Ride bicycle seat comes in three shapes to
suit your preference and style of bicycling.
Over 6000 miles of testing - What are the results?
All of our test subjects said that the Kuhl Ride bicycle seat was the smoothest ride they have ever had. Here are a few testimonials in their own words.
A little background
My name is Steve Kuhl (pronounced "cool"). I
own a welding shop in Tomah, Wisconsin. A few years ago my wife and I got
into bicycling and our enthusiasm for the sport has been growing ever since. I
just didn't like putting up with an uncomfortable seat. I bought several
different types of seats. Some were better than others, but I came to realize
that there are some things about bicycling that we are just expected to put up with.
So I did what many other cycling enthusiasts have done and bought a pair of
padded bicycle shorts. This helped, but I still thought there had to be a better way to
design a bicycle seat for a more comfortable ride. About four years ago I got
the idea to make a seat filled with air that could be adjusted while riding.
Well, over that last four years I have tested a lot of different designs and finally
came up with the Kuhl Ride bicycle seat that you see today. I have had numerous
bicycling enthusiasts test the seat. Without any exception they were pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the seat turned out to be and said it is the
smoothest ride they have ever had. No one has ever been able to make this
concept like work until now. Now that we have perfected the design, we are ready to
take the next step - mass production.
Design Details of the Kuhl Ride bicycle seat
Kuhl Ride's sleek and elegant appearance subtly disguises the many technical elements that exist within the seat. To begin with the perforated multi-piece hand sewn cover is itself, designed to "breathe" and wick away perspiration from the rider. The uniquely constructed patent pending bladder is designed to function with the perforated seat cover as it sets up a venturi-effect airflow while the bike is in motion. The bladder is constructed of an extremely durable material that should last for years. The thickness of the bladder sidewalls are the result of over a year of trial and error testing to come up with the precise amount of for support and flex for whatever pressure is chosen by the rider. The Kuhl Ride system also includes an important piece of patent pending technology by way of its thumb-actuated pump. The rider is able to increase or decrease the seat's firmness and flex, on the fly, without taking his eyes off the road. All of this engineering is mounted on an ultra thin stainless steel plate and brings the seat's weight in at less than 14 ounces. Since all "seats" on people are not the same, Kuhl Ride is designed in three configurations: "The Racer", "The Cruiser" and "The Weekender".
Here is a video discussing more of the design details of the seat.
What's all this technology worth?
We have researched the types of seats on
the market today and their price points. Typical seats for serious riders can easily cost $50 to
$100. There are also a number of seats that cost $125 and up. There are some professional grade
seats from Italy that cost as much as $700. Our price point is based on several elements.
1. There is nothing else on the market like this seat. Rather than just a remake of the same elements...some padding mounted on a pre-formed plastic or composite shape, with or without padding, springs or gel, Kuhl Ride is a system incorporating air into a durable bladder and thumb actuated pump, relief valve system and a moisture wicking breathable low friction seat cover. 2. This seat is truly adjustable, without tools and without dismounting. 3. It really is the most comfortable
seat one can find based on our test market with experienced long-distance bicycle enthusiasts . 4. It is not unheard of for bicycling enthusiasts to put thousands of dollars into their bikes. With the seat being one of the most important
elements (if not the most important), test market riders who are on their bikes for hundreds of miles each week believe people like themselves would to be
willing to pay for this kind of technology and comfort. In fact, many riders report having already
spent hundreds of dollars on bicycle seats as they go from one seat to another
looking for the correct seat. 5. The cost to make this seat contains so many more manufacturing steps and materials than a conventional seat. One of our team members came up with this analogy: "There are walk-behind push lawnmowers and riding lawnmowers. At the end the day, the result is the same. It all comes down how the user feels about the whole event and whether he chooses to pay for the difference" So anyone who supports our
kickstarter campaign really will be getting this truly innovative bicycle riding system for a great price!
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges
When you back the Kuhl Ride bicycle seat, you are backing an experienced business owner and bicycle enthusiast. As a business owner, I also understand the need for a great team. I have brought on a team of marketing experts to promote the seat. I have have gone through several redesigns and extensive testing to get to this point. I have been certain to be patient to make sure that the seat performs as advertised. The responses from test subjects has been phenomenal. I have taken the necessary steps to protect the seat through a patent application, and we expect that to be issued.
One of the challenges we may have is fulfilling these orders in a timely fashion if we get a lot of kickstarter backers. Overall, given the response we have received thus far, I expect the risks to be minimal. We are ready to move forward. We just need your help to take the next step.
