About this project
NEAR DEATH PERFORMANCE ART EXPERIENCE will uncover the infinitely small territory we claim between life and death.
NEAR DEATH performance art experience will take place February 2-3, 2013 at Fourth Wall Project, 132 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215. Massachusetts and will feature the following artists:
Jeff Huckleberry ••••☠
Faith Johnson ••••☠
Gustavo Alvarez ••••☠
Travis McCoy Fuller ••••☠
Marilyn Arsem ••••☠
Jamie McMurry ••••☠
The artists participating in NDpae have a particular sensitivity in their actions which allows the viewers to feel extreme fear, security, loneliness, warmth, a feeling of loss/gain and absolute dissolution.
So here I am digitized and edited in a KICKstarter video.. Why? You ask..
NEAR DEATH performance art experience needs to raise $3000 to pay for a portion of the airfare for Gustavo Alvarez from Mexico and Jamie McMurry from Los Angeles, as well as $250 stipends for each participating artist. These funds will also be applied to the promotion of NEAR DEATH, through a skull/compass image campaign executed through clothing, stickers and stencils, we hope to secure an engagement with our audience long before the event takes place. Your support will also be used to supply DEAD ART STAR with the materials necessary for a polaroid documentation of the event, several of these one of a kind photographs will be offered as one of the rewards, signed and dated by the artist.
Performance artists are rarely paid for travel, materials, time or their actual work, which is ephemeral and uncontained. At its core, performance art is the least commercial, profitable and archival form of art. Traveling is one of the most enriching parts of being a performance artist, yet it is extremely financially and physically wearing to the artist. Most performance festivals and event opportunities require travel and money. Unfortunately, the US is one of the countries which offers little to no government support towards the arts, as compared to Canada and Europe where many performance artists are able to live solely on their work and government funding.
That being said, Boston is known for being the home to many internationally recognized performance artists. And with that it mind, it is crucial for us to offer both our local and visiting artists the most supportive experience as possible, so that they may leave NDPAE feeling fulfilled by the community that invited them and so that we may help to set a standard of support for performance artists exhibiting in Boston.
The community art outreach and partnership we have created with curators, writers, bloggers and art initiatives from the city of Boston is not to go unmentioned. Boston is rapidly becoming a city with a newfound sense of purpose in the contemporary art world of which we could not ignore, so we have invited some of the current movers and shakers to bring their golden touch to NDPAE.
The Present Tense will be writing and documenting the event which will be added to their online video archive., Alexis Avedisian will also be writing for us and co-creating a blog focused on the theme NEAR DEATH, Maggie Cavallo provides golden power to the entire event and last but not least
local sound artist Bathaus & DJ Jesse Kaminsky will play killer tracks during the two days.
This is what NEAR DEATH performance art experience will bring to the Boston's art scene with a few added digital portal surprises to come...

As an artist and curator in Boston, I am driven to bring financial backing and support to the national, international and local performance artists. However the people in the entire art community of Boston are my main focus and without their support and bad assness, NDPAE would not be able to take place. So my eternal thanks goes out to Fourth Wall Project crew, the artists, writers, dj’s and supporters (YOU) which without NEAR DEATH performance art experience would not exist between life and death.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Internet/video realm for NDPAE: zeroBARDO
The Tibetan word bardo means literally "intermediate state" - also translated as "transitional state".
In this new age of technology, digital souls have blossomed through the screens and fiber optic cables of the internet. Their existence a world of 1s and 0s, what NDPAE refers to as 'zeroBARDO' that contains time, space, life and death separate from our physical world. Performance art creates a paradox when captured in video, edited and spread through the portals of the internet and NDPAE recognizes the important role of the zeroBARDO in facilitating an exchange between our world and theirs. When an image is pulled through the zeroBARDO the structure of time is broken, and a digital realm for eternal life and death is looped and refreshed eternally.
NDPAE has invited three artists to activate the zeroBARDO and create a video which will act as a resting point between life, death and the interweb. These videos will only be available on the NDPAE website during the 48 hours of Near Death Performance Art Experience and will be projected on Sunday the 3rd at Fourth Wall Project.
The zeroBARDO artists are:
WHEN: February 2 - 3, 2013 streamed on the NDPAE zeroBARDO portal only for those 48 hours.
WHERE: Projected on February 3 @ Fourth Wall Project, 132 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215

Risks and challenges
The event location has been generously donated by Fourth Wall Project. The artists have agreed in participating and everything is ready for publicity.
The risk is that we do not get the funds needed to offer both our local and visiting artists the most supportive experience as possible, so that they may leave NDPAE feeling fulfilled by the community that invited them and so that we may help to set a standard of support for performance artists exhibiting in Boston.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
