More to come...!
A huge world populated with intriguing characters and a story you won't soon forget! The series follows a colorful cast caught up in a cold war between the two sentient races of the title planet: The virtuous Bats and the tenacious Avians. When the great Hawk-God, Cyngro, returns to the physical realm, shifting the tides of war in the Avian race's favor, it is up to the forces of good and a rogue team of Bats to stop his quest for power. This incredible all-ages story promises to feature a sweeping continuity peppered with important lessons that boast plenty of heart. Oh, and it'll be as visually dazzling as we can stand to make it!
Bottom line, you're supporting the production of a super-sized 50-plus page graphic novel. But don't worry about waiting forever to see any progress because we'll be presenting it in 12-16 page pieces, every three months or less, as an online webcomic.
You'll be feasting your eyes on the first story arc, in the early spring of 2013! In this way, by the end of the year, we'll have finished the Year One plotline, and we will be ready to print a collected physical copy of this giant-sized comic (plus additional bonus content) for our supporters!
So what's your money going towards? For the webcomic component, the costs of operating a website and paying developers to help us do some of the things we want to do in order to make it a true "community" had to be considered, and there are also a few tools we'd like to get our hands on for the art and writing chores, as well... But hands down, the biggest portion will be going to producing the book and other goodies we'd like to hand out to our backers: such as the book's print costs, shipping costs and the like! We're honestly just looking for the bare-bones to get us started with what we know will be a great book! In the end, the more we get, the cooler the prizes we can give!
Dawn Best, top-dog of Gloryhound Network, is a comic book artist and writer who has been working professionally since 2002. Perhaps best known as a veteran of the Archie Comics Sonic crew in the early 2000's, she's since worked on several independent books such as VARULV, and collaboration pieces such as IDW's hit, Womanthology. Ian Flynn, who needs no introduction, is the current head writer for Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, and the New Crusaders. He's been a long-time proprietor of BumbleKing Comics and has had great success under the BumbleKing name with his own projects. Unknown to most, the duo have collaborated on the Sylvanna storyline for several years, and are extremely excited to present it to the world in 2013!
Okay, so now onto the fun stuff... The SWEET REWARDS OF PLEDGING!
ALL pledges of $30 or more get a PRINT copy of the finished book, SIGNED! ALL pledges of $10 or more get a PDF copy of the finished book which includes bonus content!
Some printed bundles starting at the $40 mark get an exclusive Sylvanna Sketchbook filled with concept art. Some even feature an original sketch on the cover!
Higher-tier rewards get the ultra-rare Celene plush -- the first of our Sylvanna plush dolls which will be available to the public! Celene is ultra-rare because she will only be made in limited quantities for this Kickstarter and other special promos and contests. AND... Unlike the plush toys of other characters which we will be making for sale, you won't be able to buy her in our store!!
That's right - at the highest pledge level, you have the chance to put a character of your own design into the story, and if you're really serious about backing us, Dawn and Ian will work with you to create a 6-page story of your own in the Sylvanna canon! Wowzers!
We're determined to make all our prizes the coolest on Kickstarter, but we especially love these...

$50 PRINT BUNDLE: Print copy of the finished book - Sylvanna Sketchbook with Bashu sketch by Dawn on cover - Sylvanna Cast 11"x17" litho - Plus ALL Digital-tier rewards!
Risks and challenges
We are determined to get our books out on time, but even seasoned pros hit bumps in the road. For that reason, we're going to be updating our Kickstarter page at least twice a month to keep you up-to-date on our progress as well as any setbacks which we might encounter.
Working on a comic takes time, and comic artists are most commonly pitted against illness, other projects, and real life in general when they have to delay their project. Luckily, our update schedule will run in 3-month blocks of time, which should give us plenty of opportunity to complete what we set out to do even if roadblocks pop up. Of course, we are also in a unique position to showcase our completed work online with the webcomic component, so backers won't have to wait a full year to see the fruits of their pledges!
The reason for putting our project on Kickstarter is largely based on the need for funding to do an actual printed book, so if snags with the printer arise, we're pretty much covered. After all, if we're not getting a quality product from our printer, you can bet we'll be asking for a refund and we would be more than happy to give one to our backers as well should the worst case scenario occur and printing stood at a standstill!
So then, what if we couldn't print on time? I think that after it became clear that a lot of time would pass beyond the original deadline of December 2013 before we could get printed books done, refunds would most certainly be offered. The comic would still go on, on the web as usual, and we'd find ways to get exclusive content to the folks sticking it out with us, until suitable printing could occur. We'd likely throw in other special thank-you gifts at that point.
There's always a risk when tackling a project such as this, but in comparison to other Kickstarter projects, ours has the potential to be of the low-risk variety. We're committed, as we know we have the best audience in the world already and do not intend to let them down!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
