Emulation is a controversial topic: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/03/how-the-demonization-of-emulation-devalues-gamings-heritage/. We cannot discuss in detail upon the advice of legal counsel. We are treating this topic in a more positive light, if you have experience playing games on a development board, e.g. RPI B2, you should be familiar with our gaming support boundaries.
Installing games or apps from PC is not complicated, you can directly copy and paste the file into the SD card, or transfer through WIFI. Gameshell is built with a typical Linux system, you can copy files using SSH/SFTP FTP and even HTTP server.
We support open-source dev environments such as Python+SDL, Love2D, but not limited to those environments. Also, any major coding languages can be run on Gameshell. If you are not sure about it, please check if the language you prefer can be supported on ARM.Last updated:
We use AP6212 - a two-in-one chip which supports both WIFI and Bluetooth. Please note, the Bluetooth version is 4.1 as it’s suitable for small data communication but it does not support medium bandwidth streaming (audio or video).
The HDMI design has been completed, and we will open-source the schematic shortly. Furthermore, in consideration of the cost and software adjustment time needed, we’ve decided to not show this functionality on Kickstarter. However, it will be supported in the near future.
We can support more color cases, color buttons, and even cases with color drawings, but due to cost and time-constraint, we are not offering more choices during the Kickstarter stage.
GameShell requires the user to assemble, but it does not involve a great degree of complexity nor any danger. It's simpler than most of the plastic assemble models. The tools you may need are - safety glasses, model clamp, utility knife. The package comes with a pair of safety glasses.
We are currently supporting SLA as 3D printing method; if FDM is used, it may fail. If FDM method is required, users need to optimise the model file. In the meantime, our structural engineer team will also be working on the optimisation issue.
For screen blueish issue, we investigated further:
It appeared the issue was caused by white balance while filming screen, and this is quite common and apparent for screens to appear blueish within films and videos. The way to resolve this is to adjust the color temperature of the screens while they are being filmed, but it’s not an ideal way. As a result, we decided to film our TFT screen and iPhone screen side by side for your reference. Just a note, our screen is non-IPS, but it is a widely used product, and the color is accurate visually.Last updated:
