Camera plate with true anti-twist for sling strap / holster. Choose Arca-Swiss style or Manfrotto RC2 series quick release type.

After seeing many camera plates, such as the Fusion plate and M-plate, our marketing director Greg was inspired to make a better camera plate. Once he had formulated a good project, he told our lead engineer Matt about this opportunity. Greg and Matt then reviewed existing plates and discovered that they could make significant improvements. We took this project by the horns and decided to start designing a camera plate that would far exceed the current plates in the market.

• Completely designed, engineered, and manufactured in the USA! (Patent pending)
• The last camera plate you will ever buy! Our plates will work with any DSLR camera, allowing you to use the same plate, even when you upgrade to your next camera.
• Safety First – You can trust our plate with your camera. The main reason why the camera screw loosens over time is because of the camera twisting. Our plates use specially designed camera anti-twist arms. Once your camera is attached, the arms prevent the camera from twisting. This feature sets us apart from other plates, giving you peace-of-mind.
• Always have the assembly tool available – the allen wrench is stored within the camera plate.
• Battery door remains accessible when plate is installed.
• Our plate sits flat and never requires you to take your shoulder strap or holster pin off the plate. We accomplished this by off-setting the connection point; which allows the plates to work on all quick releases and provides plenty of clearance under the lens to comfortably use the zoom.
• Built-in hand strap attachment point (included, not an additional part for an extra cost).

OTHER DETAILS
• Our plates are engineered to be lightweight and strong. Our current prototype of C-Plate AS2 weighs only 2.2 oz. and we expect to cut it down to less than 2 oz. in final production.
• The C-Plate AS2 and C-Plate M2 allow you to leave your Black Rapid strap’s carabiner screw-lock gate safely screwed closed at all times. A stainless steel bushing in the plate prevents wear from the carabiner.
• The C-Plate AS3 and C-Plate M3 use an added safety to ensure the strap will never unscrew itself accidentally over time.
• Arca-Swiss style plates have laser engraved reference lines for easy setup.

SPECS
• Camera screw: Captive ¼”-20 screw (uses allen wrench stored within the C-Plate).
• Main plate: Aluminum, tumbled, and hard anodized (type III).
• Anti-twist arms: Aluminum, tumbled, and anodized (type II).
• Anti-twist arms available in colors: black, green, or red. Green and red are only available on Kickstarter (update coming soon with pictures). The arms are adjustable with allen wrench stored within the C-Plate.
• Anti-twist posts are machined from Delrin® acetal plastic to prevent any scratching of the camera body.

You have seen and read about the major benefits of owning our C-Plate. We will now compare our plate to the competition so you can easily see why our product is superior.

Custom SLR™ M-Plate
• Does not work with all Manfrotto™ RC2 series or Arca-Swiss style quick releases.
• There is no camera anti-twist, just a cork pad.
• Strap screw only held to camera with a rubber washer serving as a lock washer. (The rubber wears out over time – that is why they sell replacements.)
• Will not sit flat with sling strap attached.
• Difficult to clamp with overlapping quick release dovetails (RC2 clamp has very small engagement).
• No place to store allen wrench (hope to find it camera bag).
• The forward section of the plate can interfere with using zoom on some lenses and may require an additional part costing more money.
• Puts strain on some ballheads because you cannot center the plate in the quick release.
• Extra charge for hand strap attachment.
• May block battery door access when using hand strap attachment.
• From Custom SLR’s website: “The C-Loop is designed to securely attach to your camera & M-Plate Pro, however it can still become loose after use.” (Screw comes undone only once to say “goodbye” to your camera.)

Spider Holster™ SpiderPro Camera Plate
• There is no true camera anti-twist.
• If using a quick release, you are required to purchase an additional plate.
• The pins do not fold or swivel, preventing the plate from sitting flat.
• Pins can un-screw by themselves.

Joby™ UltraPlate Quick Release Plate

• There is no camera anti-twist, just a rubber pad.
• Strap screw only held to camera with a rubber washer serving as a lock washer. (Wears out over time – that is why they sell replacements.)
• Will not sit flat with sling strap attached.
• No place to store allen wrench (hope to find it camera bag).
• Puts strain on some ballheads because you cannot center the plate in the quick release.

CarrySpeed™ F-1 Foldable Mounting Plate
• There is no camera anti-twist, just a rubber pad.
• No place to store allen wrench (hope to find it camera bag).
• Puts strain on some ballheads because you cannot center the plate in the quick release.

FPGear Fusion Plate
• They just use a rubber pad for their anti-twist. In a letter from them to us, they say "as with all camera equipment, screws need to be checked periodically" (how often is "periodically"?). Do you really want to check the screw "periodically" and find your allen wrench, wherever it may be.
• You are required to remove strap prior to mounting on tripod.
• To use a tripod with a quick release, you are required to unscrew the Black Rapid screw-lock gate and then remove the carabiner from the plate. If you want to use it even quicker, you can leave the screw-lock gate unscrewed, which jeopardizes your equipment. Their Kickstarter video cuts out the scene where they remove the carabiner from their camera plate to put it on a tripod. This leaves out information on how long it takes to use their product.
• When a sling strap is installed, the plate will not sit flat.
• No place to store allen wrench.

BlackRapid™ FastenR Tripod (FR-T1)
• There is no camera anti-twist, just a rubber pad.
• You are required to remove strap prior to mounting on tripod.
• To use the quick release quickly, you are required to leave your Black Rapid strap’s carabiner screw-lock gate un-screwed. (This is dangerous - why risk thousands of dollars?)
• Will not sit flat with strap attached.

As you can see, the C-Plates have come a long way from being just a rendering on the computer in Solidworks. The rendering helped us ensure the C-Plates will function and be machined properly. Once designed, we made a rough prototype out of plastic to see if the concept was there. We made several tweaks and our machinist programed it into our CNC machines and made the first aluminum prototype. From there, we found many changes in functions and cosmetics that will have to be re-designed and re-programmed. The next step is to refine these prototypes until they perfect. We still have some innovative features we are trying to add, along with designing some of the other models of C-Plates for launch. The products in the project video are still prototypes and several changes are still needed for proper function prior to shipping.

We have spent months in the design phase to produce functional prototypes. The groundwork is solid and we are now able to refine the products. We have many more innovative functions and features that we want to design into our plates. We also need to create other configurations to meet the needs of all photographers. We need the Kickstarter community to help us turn our prototypes into finished products. By having these plates on Kickstarter, we are getting the product awareness out to the general public so we can get early product feedback on the design aspects of our revolutionary camera plates.

Custom Brackets is a family business founded in 1999 by professional photographers. The owners have photographed thousands of weddings over 22 years. We are devoted to providing user-friendly products that rise above and beyond the competition. Every product is designed and engineered with the photographer in mind, and manufactured in the USA. Custom Brackets products are the best investment any photographer can make, from the weekend shooter to the professional.  Owning our own machine shop using CNC (computer controlled) equipment helps us refine every detail until perfected. Having a full vertically integrated facility allows us to create products to the highest of standards.

Mike M.: President. Professional photographer of 22 years. In the manufacturing business for 30 years. Helped with initial concepts and designs.
Matt M.: Lead engineer. Programming and designing innovative products for over 7 years. Developed this project from the initial phase. The man behind the renderings and prototypes (and our fancy video).
Greg M.: Marketing director and salesman. Discovered the product concept. Researched the marketing avenue which led us to putting it as a Kickstarter campaign.

By the time the Kickstarter funds are received, we will be finishing the final designs and prototypes and will be ready start production runs.
Our remaining tasks are as follows and will be completed in order prior to shipping date of approx. mid December:
• Design and engineer (in progress)
• Machine and prototype (in progress)
• Testing (in progress)
• Refine until perfect
• Pre-production approval
• Order materials
• Machine materials
• Tumble parts for a satin finish
• Anodize parts black or other colors
• Assemble parts into products
• Create an instruction booklet
• Package products
• Ship products to backers

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

We believe the risks involved with bringing our new products to market are very minimal at this stage. We are experienced in the design and manufacturing of high-end photography accessories, having already launched many previous product lines.

We have extensive experience with assembly and shipping of both domestic and international orders, therefor, fulfillment is not a major challenge in this project. Other challenges are to incorporate and add more innovative features. We have already included the built-in allen wrench and true camera anti-twist, but we have more features in the concept phase.
