Railroad Rivals is a tile drafting and laying game where you build a Railroad Empire that stretches across America…and across your table. While playing Railroad Rivals, you will connect cities via the twelve great railroads that stretched across America, while simultaneously building your stock portfolio. You’ll use those railroads to make deliveries, resulting in driving up the price of stocks. At the end of the game, if you have run the most profitable railroad while also owning the most valuable stocks, you’ll become the greatest of all of the Railroad Rivals!

Shipping for this projects rewards will be collected after via our Pledge Manager tool (exact tool is still TBD). We will do an Update when the tool is ready, and it will include a subsidy from Forbidden Games to help keep shipping, VAT and fulfillment costs low.

We expect the cost of a single copy of the expansion to be around $9 in the USA, $16 in the EU/UK, $19 Canada and China, $29 for AUS/NZ and Worldwide prices varying from $40 - $80 depending on your location (most of those fall in the $35 - $45 range but some destinations are outside our control).

PLEASE NOTE - Each additional item you add to your pledge manager will see an additional estimated $9 charge for shipping.

Countries Excluded: We are no longer able to ship to Brazil, Russia, South Africa, South America, Mexico, or the Middle East due to high postage prices, and lost parcels. If you live in one of these areas, we recommend you use a USA address and have the game forwarded to you via a relative/friend or postage forwarding company. We continue to work with different fulfillment centers all over the world to ensure better and more affordable delivery each campaign but none will guarantee delivery to these countries.

PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE JUST ESTIMATES.

Our EU backers will see their rewards shipped from our EU fulfillment center on our first Wave of shipping. If you do not fill in your survey by the Wave 1 deadline (which will be sent in an update) we may have to send your reward from a different hub unless stock remains in the EU. We will try to fill all Wave 2 EU requests from our EU hub until stock is gone, but to ensure your reward ships to you from our EU center, please fill in your survey and Pledge Manager ASAP.

How do the new Tiles Work?

HOTELS

The owning player gains 1 point whenever a Goods Cube is delivered to that City Tile by any player (final destination in the case of a Water Tower delivery).

WATER TOWER

Whenever the owning player delivers a Goods Cube to a City Tile containing their Water Tower, they may continue the delivery to an adjacent city on a valid link. (Note: they may not send it back to the original city).

The impact of this is:

  1. Both railroads used for the delivery have their stock value increased by ‘1’.
  2. The delivering player gains points for the delivery as normal (not twice).
  3. Other players who own any Links (locomotives) used, also score 2 points for each link used to transport the Goods Cube.
  4. The owner of a Hotel only scores if their Hotel in the final destination City Tile where the shGoods Cube was delivered.

TRANSCONTINENTAL RAILROAD (City Tile)

The Transcontinental Railroad tile may be placed like a normal City Tile. The difference is that all four edges of the Transcontinental Railroad tile are ‘wild’, and may be matched to any Railroad edge. When matched, the edge becomes the railroad that it is matched to and a Link is created (a Locomotive is placed on all Links created by the player that made the match(es)). When first placed, the Transcontinental Railroad tile gets four (4) cubes drawn randomly from the bag.

Later, players may lay City Tiles on any available edges of the Transcontinental Railroad tile, treating that edge as wild.

NEW INDUSTRY (City Tile)

The New Industry tile may be held in the player’s hand with the other City Tiles until it is played. It may be played during the owning player’s Deliver Goods Phase. When played, they select any City Tile that has already been placed, draw new Goods Cubes from the bag equal to the number on that City Tile, and then place them on that City Tile. The New Industry Tile is then removed from play.

RAILROAD HEADQUARTERS (City Tile)

The Railroad Headquarters tile may be held in the player’s hand with the other City Tiles until it is played. It may be played during the owning player’s Deliver Goods Phase. When played, the Railroad Headquarters City Tile, they may make two (2) deliveries that turn. The Railroad Headquarters Tile is then removed from play.

LOCOMOTIVE UPGRADE (City Tiles) x2

When selected, the Locomotive Upgrade tile is placed in front of the owning player. From then on, the owning player gains an extra point (+1 point) for each of their Goods Cube deliveries.

BUY STOCK (Stock Tile)

The player may purchase any Stock Tile that is in the draw pile (those not drafted yet). They pay the current value of that stock in points and place that Stock Tile in front of them. The value of that railroad’s stock is also increased by 1 point.
Played during the player’s Deliver Goods Phase.

DUMP STOCK (Stock Tile)

The player may sell all of their Stock Tiles for a single railroad, and will receive points equal to the current value of that railroad in points per Stock Tile sold. The Stock Tiles sold are returned to the draw pile. The value of that railroad’s stock value goes down by ‘2’ for each Stock Tile ‘dumped’.

Played during the player’s Deliver Goods Phase.

LOOT THE COMPANY (Stock Tile)

The player may select any railroad of which they own at least one Stock Tile, and which no other player owns more Stock Tiles than they do. They gain 5 points, and all four of that railroad’s Stock Tiles are removed from the game. That railroad is out of business.

Played during the player’s Deliver Goods Phase.

MERGER (Stock Tile)

The player merges two Railroad Companies, which become one company from that point onward. Move the two Stock Value Markers toward each other one point at a time (starting with the lower value stock marker), until they are on the same value.

(Example: Jack merges the ATSF (value 0), and the B&O (value = 7). The ATSF value marker is moved to ‘1’, the B&O marker is moved to ‘6’; then the ATSF is moved to ‘2’, the B&O marker is moved to ‘5’; then the ATSF marker is moved to ‘3’ and the B&O marker is moved to ‘4’; finally, they come together at their new value of ‘4’ when the ATSF marker is moved there.)

From that point forward, the two stocks are treated as one Railroad for scoring purposes: deliveries on either railroad move both Stock Value Markers upward together. The player playing this tile must own at least one Stock Tile of both railroads in this merger transaction.

Played during the player’s Deliver Goods Phase.

STOCK ISSUE (Stock Tile)

Once this tile is played, an extra (fifth) Stock Tile is drawn and five are available in the Draft Tiles phase. Regardless of the Turn Order, the owning player selects one of the five available Stock Tiles first. This does not affect the rest of the draft order that turn, which is executed normally. This means that the turn in which the owning player uses the Stock Issue tile, they will get two Stock Tiles.

Played just before the Draft Tiles Phase.

INSIDER TRADING (Stock Tile)

When this tile is played, the owning player moves to the front of the Turn Order at no cost.

Played immediately following the Turn Order Auction.

Shipping will be collected after the campaign via our Pledge Manager.

PLEASE SEE THE SHIPPING AND PLEDGE MANAGER SECTION FOR EST SHIPPING

Countries Excluded: We are no longer able to ship to Brazil, Russia, Mexico, or the Middle East due to high postage prices, and lost parcels. If you live in one of these areas, we recommend you use a USA address and have the game forwarded to you via a relative/friend or postage forwarding company. We continue to work with different fulfillment centers all over the world to ensure better and more affordable delivery each campaign but none will guarantee delivery to these countries.

PLEASE NOTE: Damage may occur during transit by the various shipping carriers used. We wish this was not the case, but it can happen. Shipping Carriers pass their fees along to us; we do not set high postage rates. We subsidize all shipping and handling costs from our profits to help lower these costs for you, our backers, because it is important to us to help spread the word about our project and help our games and our company grow. We are a small business who relies on shipping companies to fill our Kickstarter campaigns.

PLEASE email our Customer Service for any missing parts after you have your reward at simon (at symbol)forbidden.games - Our fulfillment CS is (mrbgames.cs{at symbol}gmail.com) if you have major issues with delivery/loss/damage that cannot be resolved with the carrier (i.e. always try your local post office first) and we will help assist you in resolving them. We will need your backer number, address and backer name in the email.

Customs "Friendly?" We will try to make the best shipping choices (i.e. EU/UK/CANADA) for your rewards when possible, but reserve the right to ship parcels from the USA or China if quantities ordered outside the USA are not large enough to facilitate pallet shipments. We will let folks know via an update if we ship from the USA and offer invoices to help with customs if need be. To date, all of our projects have shipped from an EU fulfillment center.

There are many advantages to using a Pledge Manager, such as late add ons, the ability to change your address as much as you like until we lock them and a more accurate cost for you, the backer, on delivery costs. We also plan to ship in 3 waves. The first will be to those who fill out their pledge managers by our announced cut off date. Wave 2 will follow shortly after, with a final Wave after that.

If for any reason you feel you have a missing item or damaged item, please email us at mrbgames.cs (at) gmail.com with photos of damage, your backer number, backer name, and complete address and we will work to replace the missing or damaged items ASAP. Do not post in the comments, or other forums as we may miss them or be delayed in replying.

The following Terms are accepted by you, the backer when you pledge, so we can ensure smooth delivery for all. Surveys not filled in after 2 months of final delivery (from the "we are shipping" update) or missing reward requests after 2 months of your game shipment will be treated as a no reward pledge. Please help us get you your rewards by emailing our CS with any issues you may have in a timely manner and filling in your survey in a timely manner! Watch for updates on all shipping statuses. All our major communications will be via Updates. Shipping costs listed above are just estimates and may change. Actual charges will be in our Pledge Manager tool and may differ from our estimates.

By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the final look and materials of the project and hence the rewards, are subject to change and may differ from what is presented while the Kickstarter campaign was active. If you do not accept these terms, please do not pledge on this project but instead wait for the possibility of a general release copy. We will always do our best to provide exactly what was pictured, but sometimes small details change or a card is removed and replaced with another, ect. The above campaign depicts our plan, but all plans can change at a factory level. Pledge with confidence, as we rarely alter our contents, and to date have only updated or added from development.

Risks and challenges

With every project there are risks, however, 18 years of game industry experience, the track record of Forbidden Games, our partners, and the Team, means that these are minimized.
To date, Forbidden Games has delivered two Kickstarter projects (Railroad Rivals and Raccoon Tycoon) of the highest quality. In several aspects, they surpassed the expectations of the designers and backers. Additionally, our operations partner: Mr. B Games, has successfully delivered 16 Kickstarter projects.
We appreciate your support, and thank you in advance for your confidence.
