Later this month we're going into the studio to record our sixth album, provisionally entitled 'Landmarks'. This will be our first opportunity to record with Paul Bradley (vocals, electric and acoustic guitar) and Gina Griffin (fiddle and vocals) - our two wonderful Bristol band members - and the album will also feature long-time Carmina members, Geoff Castle on keyboards and Nic France on drums and percussion. We also have some special guests: double bassist Dudley Phillips, and, on one track, the girls' choir of St Mary Redcliffe church in Bristol. We are recording all original material, and while some of the songs and tunes have been in our repertoire for the past couple of years, others are brand new.
We have decided to record the album at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in Box, Wiltshire, (Real World are the current publishers of our music) and the album will be engineered by Tim Martin, who has recorded albums for Clannad, The Corrs, Amy Winehouse, Christy Moore and many others. We'll be starting our recording on the 24th May and finishing on the 28th.
While some of the costs associated with the production of the album will be funded by a bequest from Pippa's mother Catherine, who died last year, and to whose memory the album will be lovingly dedicated, we are hoping to raise the funds to pay for the hire of the studio through this campaign, and we thank you in advance for your support and generosity. We may never have had major commercial success in the music business, but we have always been rich in the support and friendship of people like you who have enjoyed our music and found it to be meaningful. Without you there would be no Carmina :)
Risks and challenges
We hope that we have already thought through potential problems with the project. There can be a tendency with music projects to take longer than expected to complete. We are planning each recording day in the studio very carefully so as to avoid having any loose ends at the end of our five days in Real World, and we have absolute faith that our musicians and the recording technicians will do a great job in the time available.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
