Illustration finished, survey, printer

Posted by Jim Jourdane (Creator)

Hey everyone !

All illustrations of the book are now achieved, since last week. The editors/translators are working with me on the final round of edits! So I hope you will see the e-book at the end of the week.

I didn’t reach my objectives to finish all illustrations at the end of last month but now, at last, I can see the end :)

Planning the illustration part is easy : when I plan one day, it takes me one day. But there is also the things non-illustration, that, all added, can take time. I spent a few days on the survey, spent some time with the printer, and of course all the back and forth with the translator and editors. Integration. Correction. And of course making this news :)

Thanks ! More than 1000 of you have already filled the survey (also, thanks to all those who have added extra books or even tips !)

For the 133 who didn’t answered the survey yet, maybe you don’t receive my emails ? :) If you have some issues with the survey, don’t hesitate to tell me. The survey is just here to simplify things for you and for me. With a big project you have to manage many specific cases.

So the survey helps to transform this logistic nightmare…

  ...into something easier to manage

Change of printer

A few weeks before printing, it’s often a bit late to change printer. But a friend who launched her own crowdfunding recently had some issues with her project : all her copies arrived with ink marks. Ouch! I don’t want to take any risks, so I gave up my Eastern-europe printer (the same she had) and tried to find another one.

When you print a book with a few hundreds of copies, you don’t have access to all professional printers. When I asked a quote to 20 printers specialized in comics or illustration books last year, I received only 3 answers. I was too small for them ! But because of you (thanks!!), my project is bigger now with more copies to print, so I have more options. I now have chosen a Belgium-based printer. An advantage : I’ll be able to verify in situ that everything is ok (and maybe sending you photos?). So far they seem very efficients and organized.

made in France, printed in Belgium!

I’m going back to the finalisation of the book. See you soon !
