In the weeks since last we wrote to the appeal’s backers we’ve been making good progress with a number of products and services which are to accompany the device’s unveiling and subsequent launch, including, in no particular order:
- the content for the apps which are to be bundled with the device. It includes Nigel Alderton’s ZX Spectrum classic, “Chuckie Egg”, programming language Sinclair BASIC and a large game bundle, (to which new games will be added with each update of the apps).
- the licencing program, for those 3rd-party games and apps which will be published by Elite.
- the Developer Guide, for those games and apps which will be published by 3rd-parties. (It illustrates how both new and existing games and apps may easily be updated for wireless control with the recreated Sinclair ZX Spectrum).
Also, since we last we wrote to the appeal’s backers, we’ve had the opportunity to congratulate our contacts at Retro Computers on the success of their Indiegogo campaign for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega console. We take the view, which we have shared with our licencors (who are also RC’s licencors) that the recreated Sinclair ZX Spectrum (formerly the Bluetooth ZX Spectrum) and the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega are “complimentary devices” and that backers of both devices would benefit from a “joined up” approach in related matters. To this end, we have proposed a meeting with our contacts at Retro Computers to explore the options, including ways in which the devices may become inter-operable. We hope to be providing more information about that in the next and / or subsequent Kickstarter Updates.
The recreated Sinclair ZX Spectrum is the ONLY full-size recreation of the 1980s personal computer. By Design - it’s a wireless controller for iOS (and selected Android) devices, games and apps. Optionally - it’s a Bluetooth keyboard for phones, tablets, PCs, Macs and other devices, even TVs.
We’ll post further information and images - including images of the first, fully assembled, fully functioning, pre-production unit of the recreated Sinclair ZX Spectrum - just as soon as we can.
Until then, have a fabulous Christmas and thank you for your continued support.
Regards - Steve Wilcox, Elite
Note: the recreated Sinclair ZX Spectrum is the ONLY keyboard device optimized for fast ‘twitch’ games on iOS devices. Currently available Bluetooth keyboards when used with iOS devices can’t track key releases, limiting their use to simple word processing tasks or to use as controllers for slow role playing games. The recreated Sinclair ZX Spectrum’s custom hardware and clever firmware has been specifically-engineered to offer optimal response for fast ‘twitch’ games (and indeed other apps) on iOS devices. See the soon to be published Developer Guide, for further information.
