We spent much of yesterday reviewing the latest version of the entirely new Recreated ZX Spectrum Android app. The app is being optimised for use with Android devices.

The entirely new Android app includes Chuckie Egg, Sinclair BASIC and a huge game bundle. It’s also useful for accessing the recreated device’s additional features.

We were able to use the app with the recreated device to play games, with both the ‘Original’ and the ‘iDaptive’ controls and to program in Sinclair BASIC. We were also able to Unlock the recreated device.

We used a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 for the review and found the game speed, frame-rate and sound to be just as we would have hoped.

The app’s still a little rough around the edges and needs a modest amount of further work before its ready for Beta-testing … and then release.

It should reach the first of the final stages in the next few days. When it does, we’ll be contacting selected backers to invite them to download the Beta-version of the app and to share their experience of using it with us, prior to its release on the Google Play Store and the Amazon Appstore.

We hope you find what we’re creating to your liking.

Until then, thank you for your continued support.

Recreated ZX Spectrum – Despatch Of Rewards To Backers and To Those Who Ordered a Recreated ZX Spectrum Directly From Elite After Our Kickstarter Appeal Closed

Around 85% of Kickstarter backers completed and returned their reward survey by the 3rd Sep, ’15 deadline.

More than 100 did not.

Except where they’re being carried out directly from our home, instructions for the despatch of those backers’ primary rewards have been issued to our UK manufacturing partner.

We’ve been receiving reports (including tracking information), from our UK manufacturing partner, regarding the despatch of those primary rewards on most days since the 10th Sep Update.

We’re about to turn our attention to the despatch of primary rewards to backers who completed and returned their reward survey between 4th Sep, ’15 and yesterday.

Approaching 95% of backers had completed and returned their reward survey by the end of that period.

A separate statement, regarding the despatch of all other rewards, including all complimentary and additional rewards, will be issued in the near future.

If you’ve not already done so, we’d strongly suggest you view the Operating Guide (Video) at the following link. The video was published to coincide with the release of the recreated device w/c 7th Sep, ‘15. We know many have found it to be of great benefit in getting to grips with the recreated device.

PS: there’s a new version of the complete User Manual (and of the shorter (Quick Start)) available for download from the following link. In addition to a number of minor corrections to the previous version, it contains some useful additions under the heading Frequently Asked Questions / Troubleshooting. We’ll be making further corrections and additions in response to your feedback.

We have issued instructions for the despatch to backers* of the following rewards:

- Recreated ZX Spectrum for Android devices - Founders' Edition

Despatch (of most rewards) should commence from our UK manufacturing partner's facility tomorrow.

For the backers of this reward, the very long wait is almost over.

Just as soon as our UK Manufacturing partner notifies us that it has despatched your primary reward we will write to you to confirm that it has been despatched. We have done that each day since despatch of recreated devices for iOS devices began last week. Until we have written to you, you should assume that despatch of your primary reward is still in the hands of our UK manufacturing partner.

Thank your for your support and for your patience with us. It is appreciated.

A separate statement, regarding the despatch of all other rewards, including all complimentary and additional rewards, will be issued in the near future.

Until then, thanks for your continued support.

Regards - Steve Wilcox, Elite

*: Backers were polled on 13th / 14th Sep and invited to advise whether they wished to receive their primary reward 'now' or (when the Recreated ZX Spectrum Android app is anticipated to be available w/c 28th Sep) 'later'.

Recreated ZX Spectrum – Despatch Of Rewards To Backers and To Those Who Ordered a Recreated ZX Spectrum Directly From Elite After Our Kickstarter Appeal Closed

This is a long message.

During this past weekend we’ve been working hard to bring development of the Recreated ZX Spectrum Online Web App to a close.

The Recreated ZX Spectrum Online Web App (for Macs & PCs) is one of three companion apps being developed to accompany the release of the recreated device.

The others are:

the Recreated ZX Spectrum iOS App (for Apple phones and tablets)

the Recreated ZX Spectrum Android App (for selected Android phones and tablets).

The apps and the online app web app all include Chuckie Egg, Sinclair BASIC and a huge game bundle. In the online web app, all of the included games and applications are free of charge. This is because the Recreated ZX Spectrum online web app can only be used with the recreated device.

There is a fourth app, the Recreated ZX Spectrum (Operating Guide Video) Android app (for selected Android phones and tablets).

The operating guide video app does not include any games or applications.

At the time of writing our expectations for the availability of the apps and the online web app are as follows:

w/c 7th Sep, 15

the Recreated ZX Spectrum iOS App (from the App Store for Apple phones and tablets)

the Recreated ZX Spectrum (Operating Guide Video) Android app (from Google Play for selected Android phones and tablets)

the Recreated ZX Spectrum Online Web App (from RecreatedZXSpectrum.com for Macs & PCs)

w/c 28th Sep, 15

the Recreated ZX Spectrum Android App (from Google Play for selected Android phones and tablets).

The operating guide video app is a placeholder app and has been developed so we can be confident there is an Android app for the Recreated ZX Spectrum available to download from Google Play w/c 7th Sep, ’15. The operating guide video app will invite those with Android devices to use the Recreated ZX Spectrum online web app until the former is superceded by the Recreated ZX Spectrum Android app w/c 28th Sep, ’15 or thereabouts.

The Recreated ZX Spectrum Online Web App is not optimised for use with any Android devices - the games and applications included in the online web app may run slowly when used with Android devices. Consequently, we anticipate those with Android devices - particularly those wishing primarily to use the Recreated ZX Spectrum Android app to play games and to program in Sinclair BASIC - may initially express some disappointment at the slight delay in the availability of the app. However, we anticipate this disappointment will be alleviated once the Recreated ZX Spectrum Android app becomes available at the end of the month. On balance, we consider the loss of goodwill associated with this temporary disappointment will be offset by the goodwill garnered from releasing the Recreated ZX Spectrum and the companion apps and online web app to those with iOS phones and tablets, to those with Macs and PCs and to those with selected Android phones and tablets wishing to use their device as a Bluetooth keyboard, with 3rd-party apps and with the online web app.

Consequently, we have decided to release the Recreated ZX Spectrum - and all of the companion apps and online web apps which will then be available - w/c 7th Sep, ’15.

At that time the Recreated ZX Spectrum will be released to our Kickstarter backers and to those who ordered a recreated device directly from Elite after our Kickstarter appeal closed.

Simultaneously, we anticipate our re-sellers will release the Recreated ZX Spectrum to those who have pre-ordered a recreated device since it was first made available for same in March ’15.

We understand some backers may be disappointed not to have received their recreated device ahead of others. Whilst we share some of that disappointment, we ask those backers to take in to account that they will have acquired their recreated device at a very significant discount and that those who ordered directly from Elite have also played a part in making the recreated device a reality.

The despatch of recreated devices and other rewards chosen by backers whilst our Kickstarter appeal was open, will be carried out by Dee (my wife) and I, or in conjunction with our UK manufacturing partner, Ceratech. Founders’ Limited-Edition versions of the recreated device (those with serial numbers 001 to 100) and Chuckie Egg Signed, Limited-Edition Collectors’ prints will be despatched directly from our home and will include personally signed Certificates of Authenticity. Founders’ Edition versions of the recreated device (those with serial numbers greater than 100) and selected other rewards will be despatched by our UK manufacturing partner, Ceratech, on our instruction.

Similarly, the despatch of recreated devices to those who ordered directly from Elite, will be carried out by Dee and I, or in conjunction with our UK manufacturing partner, Ceratech.

Despatch of recreated devices to those who pre-ordered from our resellers, will be carried out by our distributor Exertis. We will have no direct involvement in that process, other than to authorise it to commence w/c 7th Sep, 15 - which shortly we will do.

Soon after the publication of this Kickstarter Update, we will begin contacting backers and those who ordered directly from Elite, to request confirmation of their delivery address and such other information as may be necessary for us to prepare for the despatch of their rewards and their recreated devices. This contact will be in the form of

Kickstarter surveys, in the case of Kickstarter backers and email surveys in other cases. Kickstarter surveys and email surveys will have an initial deadline for completion of 23:59 (GMT + 1) Thursday 3rd Sep, ’15. Where despatch will be carried out by Dee and I, or in conjunction with our UK manufacturing partner, Ceratech, information received by the initial deadline will be used to prepare rewards and recreated devices for despatch. WHEREVER POSSIBLE, THE DESPATCH OF ALL REWARDS AND ALL RECREATED DEVICES WILL BE CONFIRMED BY EMAIL TO BACKERS AND THOSE WHO ORDERED DIRECTLY FROM ELITE WITHIN 1 WORKING DAY OF DESPATCH. Backers and those who ordered directly from Elite are kindly requested to refrain from requesting simple despatch status updates for a minimum of 5 working days for delivery addresses within the UK (and 10 working days in the case of delivery addresses outside the UK) after the initial deadline. The dedicated email address for such enquiries is: deana.holmes@elite-systems.co.uk

The decision to release the recreated device has been made today. Consequently, the information necessary to prepare certain rewards for despatch may not be available to do so within the above referenced periods after the initial deadline. Collectors’ Prints addressed to a Named Recipient Signed by Rick Dicksinson are an example of such a reward. Where backers and those who have ordered directly from Elite are due two or more rewards and recreated devices and where one or more will not be available for despatch within the above referenced periods of the initial deadline, then the rewards and recreated devices which are available will be despatched.

Information received after the initial deadline will be not immediately be used to prepare rewards and recreated devices for despatch. A second deadline for completion of Kickstarter surveys and email surveys will be announced in a subsequent Kickstarter Update. Information received by the second deadline will be used to prepare rewards and recreated devices for despatch, as outlined above.

We’ve lived, breathed and eaten this project for the last couple of years and we’re learning more about the potential of the recreated device and the associated apps and web app all the time. We aim to realise that potential by offering firmware updates for the recreated device (via its USB port) and through updates to our own and 3rd-parties’ apps and the online web app.

If you’ve not already done so, we’d strongly suggest you view the Operating Guide (Video) at the following link. The video will be published to coincide with the release of the recreated device in a few days time. We believe it will be of benefit to you when you receive the recreated device.

We hope you find what we’re creating to your liking.

Until then, thank you for your continued support.
