Hello! Thanks for checking out my project. 'De Grand Parade' is my first entry into Artprize, the annual art competition held in Grand Rapids, MI. Originally from Chicago and no longer new to the area, I'm constantly reminded what a great city GR is and am proud to be a part of a community where such a unique opportunity like this exists. If you understand the impact that Artpize has on West Michigan, you can understand why I've put my heart into this project. Having always been a fan of dramatic, over-the-top-godzillesque depictions of great cities under peril, here was a chance to portray Grand Rapids and it's charming 'big city in a small coat' mentality. This was not so much an editorial take on Artprize, as it was an chance for me to have fun and I couldn't resist.
From September 19th - October 7th, GR will see a lot of traffic and for an artist that's invaluable exposure. I'm fortunate enough to have secured a wonderful venue/location close to the heart of downtown and have decided to relish the moment and go big. The art will be displayed at 16' x 12' and easily visible in one of the more popular ares downtown. I've put this project on here to raise money to go toward the cost of printing and attaching the piece on the wall of the building.
If you find the idea of giant lawn art parading through a major city amusing on any level, you feel me. Furthermore, if you would like to see that idea visualized on a large scale, you should support me. I've provided incentives that will hopefully encourage you to help fund this project.
Lastly, don't forget to vote. Thanks!
