My Stupid Raygun is a comics and art anthology featuring 14 Artists and a variety of themes and art mediums. It's good.

"My Stupid Raygun" issue one is an unthemed comics and art anthology featuring a mix of comics of many themes and styles, etchings, and paintings, most of which are narrative in some form or another.
(See the first video about the book at the bottom of this page.)

A note about the rewards: Since launching this Kickstarter campaign the follow items have been added as rewards for all backers: An original drawing used in the animation of the intro to "My Stupid Raygun" the sketch comedy/mixed media show and one copy of the "Thank You" mini-comic featuring an illustration for each backer which Chris Monday is creating and posting to "Updates" as the campaign progresses.

For the first issue of "My Stupid Raygun" I reached out and asked for submissions to get what will be a ten issue project started. I chose people for this issue who I know are compelled to make art at every moment that they can. Most of the artists included in this book are skilled in a wide variety of artistic talent including writing, drawing, painting, printmaking, music, sculpture, animation, collage making, and so on.

This book has a double purpose of entertaining readers and promoting the artists to each others' fan base. I believe that all of the artists in this book are worthy of greater exposure. Throughout the series (9 more issues to go) other artists will be added to the roster and some may come and go from issue to issue. Future issues will have themes and will include any form of visual art that can be put on a page. Issue #two will have the theme of advertising (submissions due Sept. 1st 2013 more info to come at mystupidraygun.com). Preference will lean toward sequential and/or narrative art, but this does not just mean comics. Photography, collages, paintings, stencils, and just about any kind of art that can be put on a page are welcome. We just want it to be good.

Our goal for this Kickstarter is to be able to print at least 500 copies, but in all honesty hope to go over the mark to have even more printed. This would enable us to give more copies to the artists and if it would go significantly over we would put that money toward future publishing endeavors, which we have no shortage of, and hopefully to be able to start paying the artists at some point during the ten issue series (if we make enough we could start with issue one). The book is completed and we have proofs. We are now just waiting on the funding to finish everything up.

Lauren's comics are cute, down to earth and offer witty and poignant observations of the art world and the regular living world. Jeffrey Brown was kind enough to allow me to include this comic featuring a drawing he sent to Lauren in the mail.

Charlie's Whoopersmackers were around when Jed and he and I first uttered the words "My Stupid Raygun" about four years ago. They have been waiting patiently for their debut, though this guy does look pissed.

I asked Jeffrey Bowers to submit because he has one of the most unique styles of humor I've met with. He said he would do it, but that he had never made a comic. He did his comic on a brown paper bag, it is hilarious, and I love it.

I met Nate McDonough a few years back and I don't see him too often, but what I see when I see him is that he never stops drawing. He embodies completely the spirit that I was going for here: the artists' inability to stop making art.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

The main challenge in publishing books at this point in time is contending against all of the free material available on the web and attempting to get distributors to back our books and products as well.
There is very little risk involved in the production of the first issue of "My Stupid Raygun," the risk is in following through with the next nine issues which are intended to come out twice a year, and to have different editors throughout the series. All of this while trying to get the "My Stupid Raygun" sketch comedy mini-series going as well.
