An easy to use filament extruder, which will allow anyone to produce their 3D printer filament on their own, starting from industrial pellet, wrong 3d prints or recycled wastes.
You will be able to choose your filament colour, diameter and material, day by day, according to your creativity and your curiosity.
This is an open project, designed for everyone and developed in a Fablab, thought for makers but also for the less experienced. Currently, our aim is to start a small production in series of Felfil Evo and in order to realize this project we need your help!

All regular printers know that the filament spools are very expensive, about 35 €/Kg, especially if compared with the price of the same material in the form of industrial pellet, about 5 €/Kg.
But the best is yet to come: using Felfil Evo you will extrude also your printing waste, opportunely shredded, making your custom filament with no cost. However, it is not only an economic issue, in fact you will be free to experiment new colours, compositions and materials.
Moreover, you will be independent during the whole printing process, from the beginning to its end. Is that all? Not yet. The last advantage, the most important in our opinion, is that you can have a positive impact on the environment, recovering materials originally directed to landfill.
Why a basic kit?
Also Felfil Evo, like its predecessor Felfil, is an open project; but they use some important parts that are specifically made and are very expensive when handcrafted in single pieces.
So we decided to offer you that parts into a truly unexpansive kit!
All the other parts, like heaters an electronics (Arduino based and compatible), are easily reachable on the market and are almost the same used in your 3D printer.
How does it work?Felfil Evo is a small machine that takes inspiration, for its functioning, from the industrial extruders. It can extrude any thermoplastic polymer whose melting temperature does not exceed 300°C, but is tested for PLA and ABS. The material, like pellets or granules, is poured into a hopper from which the screw, specifically realized, fishes. The plastic, now dissolved by the high temperature, (generated from three heaters), comes out passing through a brass nozzle carefully dimensioned.
The lowering of the temperature, in the final stretch extrusion, allows greater consistency in obtaining the filament which, according to the nozzle, can be chosen among 1,75mm, 2,85mm or 3mm diameter.
Felfil Evo is designed in order to ensure an high accessibility to all its components and an easy maintenance and implementability.
The temperature control is obtained through a PID system, Arduino based, freely controllable and customizable by the user..
Using the easy menu you will be able to choose a preset or fine tuning your preferences.
How can Felfil Evo be so small and cheap?
Every design choice has been taken in order to reduce the final cost and to increase easy-to-use features, without compromising filament quality.
In fact, Felfil Evo uses a complex brass nozzle, that is able to progressively cool down the filament in a passive way. So the filament gets out from the nozzle with the correct diameter and a relatively cool temperature, so no more deformations would occur.
Thanks to this revolutionary nozzle we were able to not integrate any spooler or water tank, resulting in minor costs and dimension.
The screw specifically realized, compared with the diffused wood drills, ensures an higher pressure and raises up the filament quality.
Into the nozzle is placed a grid in order to avoid any impurities to ruin the filament.
Because we think that the crowdfunding is the only way to realize our dream, without capitals. In order to keep the price of the extruder low, a small series is needed, and with your help, we will make it.
We would like to demonstrate how a product made for makers and open may have a possible commercial future.
We are Collettivo Cocomeri, a team of young designers from Turin, born during the Ecodesign Master Degree at the Politecnico of Turin, which is currently under TreataBit project, a developing path towards the creation of startups, under the same Politecnico.
We love authentic design, we think it’s very important to valorize wastes and to help people saving money: Felfil Evo was born with these features, and we hope you will love it!
Our cultural and educational background drove us to project using the open source philosophy, keeping an eye to eco-sustainability.
The Felfil project was originally born as the main topic of our Master Degree Thesis in Ecodesign at Politecnico of Turin, and we are proud to show you its entire evolution.
We think that the open can be a right path in order to share and improve projects, with an high customization level for users. With this spirit Felfil Evo was born, raising opinions and desires from users who had the chance to test it: for this reason we decided to release it with a Creative Commons License.
The theme of recycling has always been very important to us, this is the main reason why our project was born, and for which we care so much to make it happen: we hope it will be an opportunity for everyone to pollute less, saving time and money.
The first prototype, open and DIY, freely downloadable from the website felfil.com and already downloaded by almost one thousand makers, was for the majority made up of recovery components (for example we used a windscreen wiper), as we were motivated by the desire to give a second life to old and unused components.

Obviously, in order to ensure everyone better usability, safety and quality, Felfil Evo was developed: an open source heart in an industrialized body
If we reach 40.000€, we will let our customers choose the colour of the lateral sides of Felfil from a list of six colors.
ScenarioMaking a deep analysis about the actual 3D printing consumabilies production system, we found some critical issues.
In order to find an answer and a solution to all this questions we have designed Felfil!
Risks and challenges
Given that Felfil Evo is based on an open and widespread project, we were able to solve most of the problems of the first one.
Moreover, we worked hard in order to find reliability suppliers, to ensure the quality of the components and to facilitate shipping operations. Indeed, we chose suppliers of mechanic components settled in Turin in order to be in close contact with them, while the electronics components suppliers are global. However, we tested both the parts.
We are going to develop, helped by the community and by Fablab Turin, a custom electronic board, improving the quality of our project. This is our next goal.
