Builders of Blankenburg Fields & Flocks
This expansion adds 6-player support and more ways to earn income and prestige. Combo pledges available for those new to Blankenburg.
Add a whole new element to your adventures in Blankenburg with the addition of the Fields & Flocks expansion. Not only does Fields & Flocks add six player support to the game, but it introduces the Harvest phase, where you are able to direct the actions of your serfs in managing your agricultural holdings. Grow crops and raise livestock, either selling them to the various citizens in the town for silver, or attaching complete fields and flocks to structures for additional prestige.
In addition to adding an expansion to the base game, Fields & Flocks improves the base game with a complete reprint of all cards to address some of the main concerns players have had. All structures are shifting from color bars representing resources, to resource icons and numbers. This allows easier play for color blind individuals, or anyone playing in low lighting. Structures are also having a district icon added to again assist color blind players.
Along with the structure specific changes, all cards are being upgraded to higher quality card stock. Confusing text is being reworded, and all art is being checked for color balance, brightness and contrast (primarily to prevent the current loss of detail on some of the game cards featuring very dark backgrounds). Cards from Fields & Flocks will feature an expansion marking so they can easily be included or excluded from your games, plus a number of new cards will be compatible with the base game, even when not adding the side board and Harvest phase.
Yes, this is a full reprint of every card, included at all levels, no stretch goals required. This includes the original promo cards, as well as the Cutthroat expansion (for those who own it already).
The Fields & Flocks expansion will be a very small print run of around 500 copies. Only 1,500 copies of Builders of Blankenburg were ever produced, 300 of which were lost in Europe. While there may someday be a larger reprinting of the game and expansions, this may be your only opportunity to get this game.
The bulk of changes brought by Fields & Flocks deal with the Harvest phase. Occurring after the Building phase and before the Income phase, Harvest lets you raise Fields and Flocks, prepare them for market, sell Crops and Animals to Citizens for silver, or attach complete Fields and Flocks to structures for prestige. This is all done through the actions of your Serfs, who are utilized in worker placement fashion.
Placing Serfs on the board allows you to add Fields, Flocks, and more Serfs. Each of the actions on the board have a limited number of spaces available and cost you silver to perform.
You need to tend to your Fields and Flocks before they are ready for market. Serfs can be placed on your individual Field and Flock cards to remove water cubes. Once all the cubes are removed, that Field or Flock will be ready for market and can earn you income and prestige.
Selling a crop or animal to specified Citizens will earn you silver. Once your Field or Flock is ready for market, you can sell the crop or animals every turn for repeated income. However, each Citizen is only willing to buy so much, and you may be trying to sell to the same Citizens as your opponents.
Finally, a Serf can be placed on a specified structure to attach a Field or Flock to it. This gains you prestige, but your serf is permanently lost along with the Field or Flock. Attach too soon and you miss out on potential income. However, each structure can only have one Field or Flock attached. If you wait too long, you may run out of structures to attach to, and miss out on potential prestige.

Whether you're a fan of Builders of Blankenburg eagerly awaiting this expansion, or somebody who has just heard of Blankenburg for the first time, we have pledge levels perfect for you. Get a copy of the expansion, the full Blankenburg combo, the final remaining limited edition Master Builder sets, and more. For those of you interested in simply supporting small publisher board games, or looking for a print and play copy, there is a level for you as well.
We are also very excited to once again offer an opportunity to achieve board game immortality by getting your likeness into the game via the Artist level pledge. For fans who have wanted to shape Blankenburg themselves, we are introducing the Architect level pledge that allows you to work with the designer and create a new card for the game.
The Moneychanger tier includes minted golden coins and a metal key as pictured below, as upgrades to the punch board tokens regularly included with Builders of Blankenburg. These are not your normal metal coin upgrade, as these minted coins are thick and heavy, weighing over 5/8 of an ounce each.
Cards designed through the Architect pledge will be added to all copies of the game, as long as they fit with the theme and balance of the game. Otherwise, they will become a promotional card, provided to all backers, with additional copies provided to the card's designer.
The Historian tier comes with an upgraded key and coins, and also includes upgraded, oversized resource cubes. These cubes are made out of the materials they represent (wood, stone, marble, and iron). For safety reasons, the glass cube is still acrylic, but higher quality, tumbled and polished. Finally, the Master Builder edition is also individually signed and numbered by the game's designer. There are only 2 copies available of the original 15 ever made.
We are happy to offer Canada and EU friendly shipping options for the Fields & Flocks expansion. We are partnering with Board Game Bliss in Canada and Big Blue in France to this end. Everything is able to ship worldwide, but outside of the US, Canada, and EU, you may be responsible for Customs charges. To ensure appropriate pricing for shipping, destinations outside of the US will be charged after conclusion of the campaign. Expected pricing is as follows for such a small run game:
- USA: $7 (more for combo level pledges)
- Canada: $12-17 (more for combos)
- EU: $17-22
- Rest of the World: $15+
While more expensive than I would like these shipping estimates are based on likely actual charges. I never turn a profit (or even come close to it) on shipping. Please note that not all pledge levels are eligible for shipping outside the US and Canada.

Risks and challenges
Delays are always a risk with game projects, whether on the manufacturing side, or transportation. However, we have learned from our prior, successful campaigns and are scheduling this accordingly. Art for the game is not yet complete, so we are adding time according to the artist's estimate, plus adding an extra month on to that. Likewise, we are taking the manufacturer's estimate for production and adding an extra six weeks to account for unforeseen delays. We hope that these extra precautions lead to delivery on time, or even early.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
