Mist Valley is a first person survival horror for PC, inspired by classical games such as the Silent Hill series, featuring a psychological horror atmosphere with an unsettling script, on an isolated village where horror lurks on every corner.
Mist Valley will eventually reveal its nature as a portal to a dark, demonic world, changing the atmosphere of the game environment in real time.
The dark world manifests itself as a nightmarish, unnatural location, inhabited by fearsome and disturbing creatures.
- Survival Horror Experience: There is no defense against the many horrors that await you. If you want to survive, sometimes running will be your best option.
- Immersive Graphics: Explore a disturbing world that is nothing but a mere shadow of the one we know.
- Investigate and hide: Beings who defy your sanity are haunting you. Are they outsiders, coming from an unknown world beyond imagination? Or is the answer much more disturbing? Unravel a mystery going back to the origins of everything you know, even if you have to travel to the darkest places of the human mind in order to do so. Some answers are not meant to be found.
- Gameplay: Along the way, your wits and courage will be tested. Find clues and interact with your environment to solve enigmas that will always be fully integrated with the story as you experience it.
As big fans of the survival horror genre, we appreciate the modern offerings, but we feel like there is something missing. The modern commercial titles (at least, those that have not been cancelled or made into action shooters) can't compare to the classics, and even in a genre that is well stocked with indie titles, many fans still consider classics such as Silent Hill or Silent Hill 2 as the pinnacle of the art form.
Mist Valley is our chance to change the state of things. We want to create a terrifying adventure where story, environment and gameplay integrate in a single experience. We want a world were nightmares exist and are active pursuers and menaces, instead of scripted cardboard jump scares. We want our gameplay back, where the game over screen is surpassed with wits and skill and is not the result of a random number generator. We want a rich background in a handcrafted, detailed world, instead of handholding and cutscenes. And we want you to be afraid of death, in a world where its creators are not afraid of dispensing it.
In other words, we want to go back to the genre's roots, disregarding the current trends. And that's why we need your help. We're passionate about making a game with no compromises, and Kickstarter gives us a chance to share that passion with you. The Mist Valley Universe shifts between two interconnected dimensions, each one having its own rules and mechanics.
On the one hand, there is the fog world, close to our one, but haunted by spectral shadows and mist ghosts. It is in this world where enigmas and mysteries will unravel, its challenges tied to the town’s background and advancing through them will gradually reveal the game’s plot.
On the other hand, the dark or demon world is a place of nightmares, resembling a personal hell where disfigured creatures, burned blind by the ancient fire, hunt and dwell. To survive in this world, avoiding its many dangers, requires a steady mind and cautious use of the environment.
As mentioned, the game will feature two distinct worlds, each with its own characteristic style.
- The mist world, is full of gray and blue tones and dominated by a thick fog that covers everything to convey a feeling of emptiness. Likewise, this world contains outdoors areas of the city.
- The dark world, filled with reds and copper tones, with a lot of dirt and corrosion to reveal the proximity of evil.
We strongly believe that music in audiovisual products is 50% but in the case of the scary ones, music becomes something essential. That's why we devote special care to the sound, trying to transmit the right atmosphere and feelings in each situation.

Mist Valley is developed in Unity 5 engine. Making use of its latest features including physically-based rendering, real-time global illumination, PhysX & its advanced animation system.
Mist Valley features a complex plot, heavily influenced by Lovecraft's legacy and movies such as Jacob's Ladder or The Fog. While we won't spoil it yet, we can tell you a bit about the location's background.
In November, 1692, a massive series of witch trials were celebrated at the town of Mist Valley, somewhere near Minnesota. Over the course of multiple weeks, up to 1131 residents were tried and convicted guilty.
The case began when a group of young girls between 9 and 12 years old experienced several cases of seizures and convulsions. Testimonies and accusations were directed against a local woman said to engage in wizardry, which prompted the local judge to order her arrest. Far from relieving the situation, new cases of witchcraft and missing girls and women would be reported each night, raising an atmosphere of fear and hysteria that gradually infected the whole town.
The situation escalated while new culprits continued to be accused, tried, found guilty and executed, usually in the span of a single day. The incredible figure of 1131 condemned had just been reached when the trials finished abruptly by the big fire of 1692. If rumors are to be believed, the fire was started by the authorities themselves, perhaps as some kind of sick attempt to ‘purify’ what remained of the town’s tainted residents. Tales of the thick fog of smoke and cinder, where cries of the dying agony resonated between crackling flames and twisting shadows, permeated the local culture and are still heard even today.
The town was eventually rebuilt one and many times, but would never overcome its dreadful past, as a series of misfortunes—real or made up—would bring it down once and again. It is today a favorite topic in occult circles, a black legend inflated with the many cases of incidents and missing people said to be frequent in the vicinity. The modern myth frequently mentions the thick fog, where laments and weeps can still be heard. It is said that people who venture inside will disappear forever, as if they had crossed a sinister gate to places unknown.
We are a team of game industry veterans, with more than 30 collective years experience in the games industry. Having worked in more than 15 games for publishers including SEGA, EA or NINTENDO, our team has a solid know-how of delivering challenging projects on time and on budget.
Our goal with this campaign is to raise enough funds to allow us to focus full-time on Mist Valley.
When we quit our jobs three years ago, we intended to work on a small project for mobile devices to make some money to be able to bring PC games to life. During this experience our plans did not go as expected, and we failed adapting our games to a market set by a wide user acquisition costs. But our small user base gave us the strength to continue and develop this fantastic demo. However, releasing a game takes money and our funds are starting to deplete. Your generous pledges will go towards bringing this game to life.
- Kickstarter fees ~3.000€: the actual kickstarter fees are roughly 10%
- Taxes ~5.500€: this is our estimate over a gross of 27K, after deducting the Kickstarter fees (to Our US backers, remember we are based in Spain 0_o)
- Music + Sound FX + Voices ~4.500€: We want the best sound quality for a great experience, and for this we need the best actors we can find. We are willing to work for free on this project if necessary, but still need to pay our amazing sound designer.
- Art ~6.000€: Everyone knows that artists are weird, but even they need to eat XD
- Business basics ~4.000€: Our offices are small, but we have to pay for rent, electricity, water and internet each month.
- Software Licenses ~1.000€: It is important for us to pay the licenses for the software that we are using to develop the game.
- Code ~6.000€: of course, developers also need to eat XD
We are looking at a 6-8 month development schedule without no other income sources. In the best case scenario (i.e. finishing the game in 6 months), that leaves us with 666€ per month. To put it into perspective the minimum wage in Spain is 648€ per month. I want it to be clear at this point, neither of us is getting rich with this Kickstarter, so rest assured that your pledge is going 100% towards the development of the game. Risks and challenges
Making a game is never an easy undertaking, and developers have to deal with a variety of risks. Here's how we are dealing with each of them:
FINANCIAL RISK: We have invested in Mist Valley ourselves, and are fully prepared to do whatever is necessary to reach completion. We saved prior to starting development so we could have the chance to make the game that we wanted to make. We wouldn't be asking for your support if we didn't already have our own soul in the game. We can do it with your help!
SCHEDULE RISK: The completion date for the game is an estimate based upon our experience running similar game projects in the past. Should some features take longer than expected to implement, there is a chance that the completion date will slip. If we feel this is necessary for the good of the game, we promise to be transparent about any date changes and keep you, the backers, informed along the way. Even better: we plan to release the game on Early Access part way through development, so even if final completion date moves, you'll get hands-on with the game before then.
