Livera by Team HiCat is an open source hardware project which aims to bring machine vision features to the Arduino community. We've provided libraries which contain machine vision related APIs such as:
- 720hd video and photo capturing&processing
- OpenCV enabled Color-Sensitive and Object-Tracking.
- Wifi enabled wireless control (this can work with the iot!)
- Image capturing and data recording onto the onboard sd card
- Mobile observation and manipulation from our custom apps( web-based and native)
- Programmable and open source.

Camera extendible cable --> Livera --> Motor Driver
Livera is a conbination of wifi router, web cam, accelerometer, Arduino and Raspberry Pi, within a small board size.
Moter-Driver Set Up
With the Motor driver, you can easily power up 4 channels of dc motors and 4 channels of servos. You can power it by USB or it's onboard battery pack.
Extendable camera module
The camera module of Livera is an independent module, you can plug it directly to the board, or using the extension cable, depending on your project.
A simple to build robotics kit
By assembling and programming this robot you can develop a basic understanding of:
- Robot mechanical drive mechanics and dynamics.
- Coding for motors in dynamic situations.
- Machine vision for tracking objects and colors.
This is a great way to get started with Arduino, embedded Linux, and openCV enabled computer vision.

Line tracking demo
This is an image capture and openCV line tracking app, I've write a C program which keep getting images(yuv format) from Livera, then using openCV api to detect the black line and draws down marks on the image, constantly updating and viewing the updated image through web interface.
Dog feeder demo
This is a automatic dog feeder demo. we've set up a daily feeding schedule. When the dog come to it Livera detects it through its visual motion detect function, than record down the video on sd card and stream(email or live broadcast) it to you via the internet.

About two years ago when I was doing my industrial design project I wanna find out a hardware solution to let me have a FPV(first person view) experience remotely. My use case at that time was to know how my dog(Happy) doing(visually), feeling(current temperature) and behaving(accelerometer data) at home while I learning at my Uni.
At that time I really couldn't find out any proper solutions for this. My teacher told me that I could hook up an IP cam with an arduino,but it seems to be to heavy and complicate.
However, my project ended up with an wifi embed arduino like chip which can stream the acclerometer data and temperature data to me through twitter. two years later, really thanks to maker movement and fast growing hardware industry in Shenzhen. I think I could make a board which enable machine vision features and brings it to maker :p.
I've grouped up a brunch of talented guys and founded team HICAT. We are proundly to provide our first product Livera.
Risks and challenges
Livera project has been developed over a year, We have go through 2 batch of working prototypes. For now, all the bugs and bad user experience design has been fixed in order to make Livera stable.
Our custom firmware and android app has been iterate many times. the firmware is almost done. please tell us what APIs you want within our Arduino library.
For mass production, We've cooperate with manufacturer who has actual experience of camera related project production, the whole team members will follow and join the whole process of manufacture like upload firmware, quality test. To lower down the cost, we have to manufacture at least 300-1000 pics a time, so we think this KS campaign will help us hit that target.
