UPDATE: NEW GOAL OF $30K!
WOW! We have already reached our minimum goal! The past two weeks has been very exciting for us. I want to sincerely thank each and every backer of this project. Stuart and I are overwhelmed by the response and your kind words of support.
Some of you have even been asking if we can exceed our target and the answer is YES! We can raise as much money as possible before our November 6 deadline, which is why we've set a new goal of $30,000.
When we set up this project, we set our goal at $15,000 because we didn't want to set it so high that we risked not funding at all, but the truth is we need much more than that to make the film. The funds raised here are just a fraction of the cost so your support will most certainly help us move this project forward with less of a hurdle. Please understand that every dollar raised will go towards making this an even better film.
So Let's keep at it, please continue to spread the word! Help us reach that $30K mark. Even a $5 pledge will make a huge difference!
We were featured on NBC Sports!
NBC Sports aired a segment about the ICEF Rugby program on Sunday Oct 2nd during the halftime show of the New Zealand vs Canada World Cup Match. (see update #2 for video and details)
"SCRUM - Rugby in the Inner City" is a feature-length documentary following the journey of student athletes from ICEF Public Schools' highly successful rugby program as they travel around the globe to compete, learn and connect with people from different cultures.
For over eighteen months we follow the personal stories of five students, their families and their dedicated coaches. These are powerful stories of struggle, determination and triumph. Surrounded and supported by a loving community of parents, teachers and coaches, we see the students rise above their circumstances and broaden their horizons as they are inspired to graduate, to look ahead to college and beyond.
ABOUT THE ICEF RUGBY PROGRAM
ICEF Public Schools' Rugby Program is based in South Los Angeles and was started by a pro rugby player-turned-english-teacher, Stuart Krohn. Having started a successful rugby program in Hong Kong years earlier, Stuart knew that a similar program would change the lives of the at-risk inner city youth he taught in his classroom everyday.
The highly regarded program originated in the spring of 2003 with the help of some generous donors. Renowned for its highly successful independent public charter schools in traditionally underserved communities of L.A., ICEF's rugby program is one way of opening up a wider world to students, through travel and interactions with the truly diverse rugby community.
Today, over 200 middle and high school students, male and female between the ages of 11-18 participate during the season. The students benefit from the discipline and camaraderie that are foundations of competitive rugby, as well as getting a chance to practice sportsmanship outside the classroom. Most importantly, rugby inspires young people to look ahead to college and beyond.

KickStarter is the largest funding platform for creative projects in the world. It is unique in that it is an all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded before its time expires or no money changes hands. If we fall short of our goal by any amount then we won't get any of the money. Even if it's only by $5. That's why your help spreading the word about the film and Kickstarter campaign is so important.
WHERE WILL YOUR DONATIONS GO:
Funds pledged go directly to the production of the film. We have already shot over 50 hours of footage and much more is needed. We need funds to complete filming throughout this school year and to accompany the team when they travel to New Zealand in March. Every cent of your donated money will make its way to the production of the story—such as airfare for crew, licensing rights, meals, transportation, graphics for film and initial post-production cost.
Although this is only a fraction of what it will cost to complete the film - It will make a HUGE difference!! We are relying on the success of this campaign to help fund production and then we will form partnerships with other arts supporters to complete the film and enter it into major festivals.
Again, if we do not reach our fundraising goal by the deadline, all donations will be returned.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Well besides donating please share this with as many people as you can. Please share the KickStarter link on Twitter, "Like" us on Facebook, email this KickStarter link to your friends, teammates, supporter groups and co-workers to let them know about the film and our campaign.
