Tiny boats without an anchor have got to learn to face the waves. The final line of the song "Today My Life is Over" helps explain the band's name and underlines one of the major themes of the album. There are times in our lives when we feel vulnerable and scared and we have to learn to face our challenges, disappointments, fears, and shortcomings head on.
While most bands dream of playing sold out clubs and arenas, Tiny Boats' ideal show is in your living room. It's not that the idea of playing in front of thousands of adoring fans isn't appealing. It's just that they have discovered a more simple and practical approach.
It all started about four years ago when Jason and Jesse were playing together in a cover band. Jesse approached Jason about recording some Christmas music for friends and family. They named their band, Herod the Fink, and began playing small, acoustic house shows as a way to share their new holiday tunes. There was an incredible response and connection to the music even though most of the audience had never previously heard any of the songs.
These living room concerts provided the inspiration to create a new, non-holiday band based on the same model: Make the best record possible and support it house show by house show. The result is a group of extraordinary songs that have two faces--a full-band studio version complete with every bell, whistle, and clap, and a stripped-down acoustic live version.
Where will the money go?
We have 7 songs that are currently 90-100% complete. We are raising the money to cover the cost of the tracking and mixing for the remaining 3 songs as well as the mastering of the album. The money will also cover the cost of producing CDs, posters, and t-shirts.

DEAD PLANET SOCIETY (explained)
There's a beauty and danger in good enough
And I'll die worrying that I'm up to snuff.
'Cause there's things that I see and there's things in between
and the distance that comes with defeat.
You were broken down on the shoulder in the rain
I was walking backwards up the road.
So you told me to climb in, dry off, and have a bite to eat.
I drop my thumb, and now we're not alone.
You took your life inside your hand
As you rolled your cigarette.
And in your car the tassel hangs
In chords of blue and red.
With the numbers painted gold so everyone will know
The year you reached the milestone.
The year your life became your own.
We talked and we waited for words to form
And we laughed as the sky dumped to hours of storm.
Five miles into town and a fuel pump install
There's no stopping 'til we hit McCall.
Even to this day, I wonder if you needed me
Or if it was just me needing you.
It's hard to find a friend, someone to hang your hat on
Who sticks with you even when you're gone.
Bad habits they die hard
But you kicked your cigarettes.
And in the five years since you left
I think I finally cleared my head.
And our parents they are please
'Cause we both got new degrees
And bright young families.
And now we've reached the milestone
The time our lives are not our own.
I BUILT THESE WALLS (explained)
I've been living my life in a tiny box
Hoping that you will give a toss.
Kidding myself that I gave my all,
But I built these walls.
When I was a kid, I said I'll make a bet -
I'll walk a straight line and live without regret
Following the course I laid out in my head -
But it all went south.
I could spend a whole year and try to paint these walls
With rolling green hills and a waterfall
Kidding myself I'm really on the ball
But it won't change a thing.
Easy to say "I want to pulverize.
Gonna break through with a clenched up angry fist."
It took me years of pain to realize,
I'm never going to free myself like this.
I'll walk backwards every step I took.
Turning bolts along the way.
I'll dismantle this whole prison cell.
I'll understand more clearly when you say
I feel the rocks beneath my feet
The dark horizon, it calls to me.
With every step I'm coming home.
In the air familiarity.
The quiet wispers in the passing trees
Telling me I'm not alone.
I'm still in pain, but it's not killing me
The scars, they fade just like a calming sea
I'll take the oars, it's time to row.
Forget the things I said
Forget the way I left.
Forget the barren years alone,
Risks and challenges
This album will be completed. No matter what. Jason and Jesse both believe in the songs and the message and the album and will do whatever it takes to finish it and share it with the world. As far as fulfillment goes, scheduling the different events will be the biggest obstacle. We are confident that we can work with people to make the events an incredible experience. We have lots of great options for the printing of the physical albums and the posters. We feel that we can reward people and exceed expectations in exchange for their donation to the cause.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
