What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

About

We are raising funds to be able to engage in a large scale marketing campaign of The Worrinots.  The app has been on the app store for just over a year and in November 2017 won Children's and Education app of the year at the annual UK app awards.

The World Health Organisation states that 1 in 10 Children have a mental health problem and research shows that 1 in 3 Children suffer from anxiety that if not tackled early on will lead to mental health issues in later life. The Worrinots aims to help solve this growing issue with early intervention, before the issues become deep rooted. The Worrinots offers Children a way to communicate their worries, fears and anxieties to one of the characters, who in turn will alert a parent or teacher of the worry. The adult can then respond to the Child through the character they have chosen to talk to. This way we get the Child to open up and not bottle up their worries, fears and anxieties. It works, parents have told us it does, we just need more people to use it and help tackle the issue head on.

There are hundreds of apps loaded to the app store daily, we need parents to know we are there and what we are about.  We would like the initial campaign to be available within six months.

With the money raised we intend to invest in social media campaigns (specifically Facebook groups and ads), PR, plush toys for children of The Worrinots characters along with a series of Worri-books.  We have sourced an author to write a series of Worri-books, however we cannot start this project until we are able to offer payment.

Getting the books into hospitals and schools with stories that relate to real children's worries, the positive impact this will have will enable the child to speak out.

Risks and challenges

The challenge with any solution that is tackling mental health is getting the message out to parents on the positive impact The Worrinots can have for their child. Some of the parents we tested with had no idea that their child had any worries, until their child spoke to The Worrinots. The children get it, we know as we have tested it on them. It is the parents that need to be convinced.

There are enough stories in the press outlining the decline in children's mental health and we are passionate about making a difference. As long as parents have the same passion for early intervention, then we have no risk. If parents decide 'my child is fine, what could my child possibly have to worry about?' This is the risk we run.
