About

About the Artist and His Project

Tommy, Apollo is a character who will grow with each album and EP release each year, spanning several various genres and styles with a supporting cast of other characters he'll encounter. Gifted with the Infinity Halo above his head, he creates music documenting his experiences with the genres and trying to master them.

In this album, Tommy, Apollo is telling the story of his visit into The Software Dreamscape, a plane that represents his mind. He encounters several other characters along the way, including three ghosts of dead high priests and a giant scorpion, while trying to avoid getting swept back to the edge of the Dreamscape by the Riptide, a storm that changes the terrain, physics, and dimensions of the Dreamscape. This concludes the Cybertide story arc (if you wish to hear the first EP, click the link below).

This project consists of a full-length album, animations, zines, and special artwork created for the story and album. I'm intending on creating an entire world of consistent content for the character.

This album's genre is neopsychedelia, which artists that inspired this one would be King Gizzard & the Wizard Lizard, Tame Impala, Pink Floyd, Gorillaz,  and several others. It will have guitars, synths, drums, drum machines, orchestration, and sound effects, making for an incredible sonic experience. This follows the trance/psychedelic theme for this year.

Please check out my first EP below, The Corridor of Eyes. It can be found on Itunes and Soundcloud as well under my name, Tommy Apollo.

With Sincere Thanks,

T. Apollo

Risks and challenges

First thing, of course, a recording is only as good as the engineer and the equipment it's built on. The first thing money will swing towards is buying everything necessary so I can get the cleanest sound for my equipment and/or upgrade in order to achieve that. Luckily, the plugins I'm looking for aren't expensive, ranging from $40-200. Any special mics I don't already have I can rent studio time recording for, which for each song could range from $400-600 depending on length and time spent, which is still cheaper than buying the mics myself.

Second, in the words of Jellopocalypse "animation is expensive." I'll be working with animators I know and I want to pay them fair amount for fair work. Animation is hugely labor intensive, especially with a small team of people, However, because of that I'm also not releasing large-scale animation projects immediately, but rather, smaller, quick ones. Faster production and cheaper, but with the same amount of quality as the big ones. I'll be working as hard as I can to find dedicated cartoonists/animators who won't compromise the vision but enhance it.

Third, money will be going to artwork and making prints of them. As before, I want to pay my artists fairly (I'd love to do so generously). The amount of donations will determine how many prints I'll need to have made, especially any zines. Artwork might not be as insane as animation, but still takes effort and needs to be paid accordingly.

I'd also like to pay my film director for the promo video, of course.

Lastly, all other money will be going to promotion, a website, and merchandise. Promotion means all paid promotions on websites and venues, and merchandise is, well, pretty self-explanatory. Building a website is something I'm only a novice at, and depending on how everything else looks will determine whether or not I'm creating just a hub for myself or something a little more...interactive.

Making good quality content takes a long time. Even as I'm writing this up the project has been in the works since March in order to get to a quick release date for the album, as well as concept art and other things. The scariest thing that could happen for me is it not to be released by the end of the year. However, I'm used to working as a one-man team in recording, writing, and producing an album by myself. Which is why I need all the help I can get with all the other pieces.

While I record, I will also be performing live shows with whatever chapters of the album I've got a live edit for. This shortens the amount of moonlight I'll have working on the album's production, but is necessary for generating crowds and clout, as well as being really good rehearsal and a possible way to make more funds for the project.
